Overall, it was a very good display last Saturday at home to Tadcaster. That's what we can do to teams I was a bit annoyed we switched off for their goals, but in the first half we were tremendous. We started really well in the second half, then I'll hold my hands up for the last 20 minutes by making three subs.
At 5 1 we expected them to come on and enjoy the game, but it didn't pan out like that. We had to look after playersAmar Purewal was playing through a groin injury, Oliver
Walters went straight back in after six weeks out. Daniel Field has impressed us in training - he's a big, aggressive lad that's comfortable on the ball so he'll bring some depth to the back four. Andy Coulson will push Shaun Newbrook on - he's been here before and we needed someone to help tick Shaun on, we may look at using him for cup games. We need more bodies - we lost Will McCamley through you nee squad i league you wa Stockto
good side. Both teams know a lot about each other - it was a good game down their place and I'm expecting the same here tonight. I've given the lads a target for the next few games and Saturday was one ticked off.
As a player, you want to be playing in these big games on a Friday night in front of a large crowd - you want to showcase yourself and wear
I think it was a very good performance last weekend against Tadcaster. We played well for most of the game we were dangerous going forward, moved well off the ball and were excellent when we got the combinations right.
Olly Martin scored two great goals and Amar Purewal looked ruthless so it was a really positive game for the attackers. It was an unlucky injury to pick up at the start of the season.
At Brighouse on the opening day, with only five
minutes left, I went over on my ankle. I damaged the ligaments in my ankle so I was out for about four weeks.
I got back into training last week and got a few minutes at Trafford, so it was nice to get even more game time on Saturday.
I’m getting back to where I was before the injurythankfully it healed pretty quickly and I’m raring to go. Tonight will be a tough - Stockton are top league. They be month pretty c were un
to get something out of it.
Hopefully we’ll be pushing for the win tonight in front of a good crowd to get into the next round.
Every game is massive for us - if we want to achieve the targets set, we need to take it one game at a time.
It doesn’t matter who we play, every game is huge and we want to win.
We'd like to congratulate Steven Richardson on winning Grassroots Coach of the Year.
Steven is Vice-Chairman of Hebburn Town Juniors, and has worked alongside Durham FA to set up new initiatives such as Women's Just Play, Squad Girls (for ages 11-13) and disability football sessions. He also coaches two U15 teams on a Saturday and Sunday, an U15 futsal team, and an U13 futsal team.
Steven has previously assisted with the club's U18s and first-team, and occasionally helps other sides in the Juniors when called upon. Alongside his excellent work at the club, Steven is working on his own coaching journey after completing his UEFA B license.
"At first I was shocked, especially at the fact I had
multiple nominations," Steven said after winning the award.
"I didn't realise I had such an effect on the game, but I was absolutely overwhelmed when it was announced.
"I was in disbelief to be honest because when I first started coaching, I never expected anything like that.
"Hebburn Town is a hub for the community - everyone is so friendly and you meet so many new people.
"I'm in my 11th year at the club now and I'm really enjoying it."
The Hornets enjoyed our first of five consecutive home games on Saturday, winning 5-3.
In the fourth minute, Hebburn took an early lead against Tadcaster Albion after some good work by Amar Purewal to find Olly Martin in space just outside the area, and the forward stepped inside and expertly curled home into the corner. Purewal missed an early penalty, but Martin then netted a replica of his opener on 24 minutes. Purewal forced a save out of debutant goalkeeper Ben Bottomley moments later, but Sean Reid was on hand to smash home a 3-0 lead. Tadcaster pulled one back through Jack Carr at closerange, however Purewal
latched onto Martin's cross before the break to make it 4-1. Daniel Moore's side got a fifth through Purewal after the interval, after Jack Donaghy headed the ball across the face of goal. As the game entered its final 20 minutes, Tadcaster rallied well with two goals inside three minutes. First, Jack Crook played a delightful ball forward with the outside of his boot for Carr to race through and finish into the bottom corner, giving Shaun Newbrook no chance. He again worked through the Hebburn defence to fire home his hat trick, having also netted in the reverse fixture a fortnight ago.
We read into tonight's visitors, Michael Dunwell's Stockton Town. Stockton Town were founded in 1979 as Hartburn Juniors, however didn’t play senior football until 2009 having changed their name a few years previously. Despite this, The Anchors have enjoyed a huge amount of success in their short existence. Their first senior season was in the Teesside League, however they later joined the Wearside League. The club spent a very successful six seasons in the Wearside League, including four straight league titles before progressing to the Northern League in 2016. In the 2014/15 campaign, the club achieved a historic quadruple when they also won the Shipowners, Monkwearmouth and
as part of a treble in 2015/16. Stockton immediately stormed the Second Division, their fifth straight league title.
Division One initially proved a giant leap, with Stockton losing their first eight games, but they recovered to finish sixth and make the FA Vase Final, where they lost 1 0.
Like Hebburn, Stockton were promoted to step four on a PPG basis in 2020/21. They are now enjoying their second year in the Pitching In Northern Premier League club, sitting top after a tight play-off final defeat last season at Marske United. League Cups, with the latter two being retained
Stockton Town maintained their 100% winning start to the Pitching In Northern Premier League East season with a 1-0 home triumph over Cleethorpes Town. Stephen Thompson netted the only goal of the encounter in the 14th minute, finishing well after
Tyrone O’Neill had knocked down Cameron Painter’s chipped ball forward. They almost doubled their advantage when Adam Nicholson hit the bar just before to the break following Kevin Hayes’ corner. Both sides were
reduced to 10 in the second half, with Stockton goalkeeper Callum Roberts sent off for preventing a goalscoring opportunity. Nathan Mulligan also hit the bar for The Anchors in stoppage time.
Hebburn have struggled against Stockton through the years, only recording one win from 10.
The victory came in the 2018/19 FA Vase third round at The MAP Group UK Stadium.
Ben Dibb-Fuller drove from the halfway line before firing into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to give The Hornets an early lead.
Scott Oliver's side made it two as Michael Richardson latched onto a long ball and, with his back to goal, punted into the back of the net.
In the second period, Hebburn made it three as Richardson squared to Dibb-Fuller at the back stick to poke past the 'keeper. The visitors were in dreamland and got a fourth as Louis Storey sent a cushioned volley in from the near post.
The Hornets made it 5-0 as Dibb-Fuller evaded a challenge before slotting past the goalkeeper on the rebound for his hat-trick. Stockton answered as Fred Woodhouse struck past Andrew Jenninson inside the area, and he got a second after neat footwork on the right flank.
Peter Bulmer tucked home a cross for The Anchors to make it 5-3, but Stockton's comeback proved too little
The Hornets got to the second round qualifying stage in last season's FA Trophy.
Hebburn secured a dramatic penalty shootout victory away to Warrington Rylands to open the competition.
The 90 minutes finished in a stalemate, with the visitors' best chance coming through Tom Devitt from a set-piece but it was well blocked off the line. Rylands had the opportunity to steal it at the death as Joe Bunney headed a cross over the bar at close-range.
Hebburn's Kieren Aplin blazed his penalty over in the shootout, but The Hornets recovered and Mark Foden denied Joe Coveney low to his left to win the tie.
The reward was a home draw against Warrington Town from the step above,
with both sides heavily affected by injuries.
Hebburn gave a good account and had several chances to break the deadlock, before Jack Mackreth did so for Warrington 58 minutes.
Stefan Mols then came off the bench and made it 2 0 for the away side, before Hebburn were forced to play the final 10 minutes with
