On behalf of everyone connected with Hebburn Town FC, we would like to wish a warm welcome to everyone connected with Whickham FC to the Green Energy Stadium for tonight's Ebac Northern League Division One game.

Tonight's game should be a cracking encounter and we face a Whickham side who have had a solid start to the season which culminated in them progressing to the next round of the FA Vase where they will face Redcar Athletic.

Whickham, as mentioned above, have had a solid start to the season and as we stand tonight before the game they sit 4th in the league with impressive wins over Guisborough and Billingham Town. This was backed up with a point against Seaham Red Star.

They have added some quality players to an already good squad and the introduction of Alex Francis is an excellent signing which will only strengthen them.

Actually, we faced West Auckland last week as well with two new introductions to their squad, so we have been a little unlucky on that fact that we have faced sides given a boost by new signings.

We managed to get another three points on the board at Seaham on Saturday and we carried on our good start to the season on the back of some really high intensity games in the league, FA Cup and the FA Vase.

Like Seaham, we had a few players missing due to injury, suspension and unavailability. So we shuffled the pack, Carl Taylor slotted into right back and Damen Mullen came into the starting line-up in the middle of the park. It was nice to see the goals get spread around the squad and scorers on the day were a brace from Tom Potter and further goals from Lewis Suddick and Amar Purewal.

Back to tonight, the personnel on show should really put a good game on for the watching public. Make no doubt about it, Whickham will prove to be very tough opponents tonight and have players within their squad who are match winners. Personally, I am looking forward to seeing young Jack Robson, who we had here last season, who is on loan I believe at Whickham from Morpeth. No doubt Jack will be a danger to us tonight.

Back to ourselves and we look to carry on this very good start to the season but we are under no illusions how tough tonight's game will be and Whickham will get our full respect as do everyone in this league. If we play to our recent form, then I know we will create chances. We just have to be ruthless in front of goal when those chances come.

Memory Match Hebburn Town 4-0 Whickham AFC Tuesday 23rd October 2018 Durham Challenge Cup Rather than looking at last season, when we only played Whickham once due to the early ending to the season, we decided to go back to 2018 for our memory match against the Lang Jacks.

We played them at home in the second round of the Durham Challenge Cup and ran out 4-0 winners.

Paul Chow (pictured by Richard Waugh) got the scoring underway in the 23rd minute with an excellent finish into the right corner on the end of Jack Robson's (now of Whickham) through ball.

The Hornets had to wait until the second half to extend their lead, the second coming through a spectacular long range effort from Luke Sullivan which looped over the Whickham 'keeper who was well off his line.

Michael Richardson got in on the action, scoring from even further out with a spectacular half-volley from only around 10 yards inside the Whickham half.

Luke Sullivan bagged a second around 10 minutes from time, shifting the ball onto his right foot as the 'keeper dived who was expecting a shot, which left the attacker a simple finish.

Last season, we won 3-2 away at The Glebe in our only Division One game with the Lang Jacks

Michael McKeown

The deep-lying midfielder has impressed since joining midway through last season and has barely been out of the squad since. In his first full season as a Hornets player, he shares his thoughts on the start to the season and talks about his experience of winning at Wembley.

Q: In the league games you've set high standards early on with three clean sheets, 10 goals scored and three wins. How pleased are you with the start to the season?

MM: It has been a great start to the season, especially considering we’ve scored so many goals and are yet to concede in the league. We are full of confidence at the minute, it feels like we will find the way to win no matter who we are playing. Long may it continue.

Q: How important do you feel it is to build momentum early on and get points on the board right from the start?

MM: Momentum comes with winning games which we are doing at the moment. As a group we have set ourselves very high standards and it's now up to us to maintain that throughout a very long season.

Q: Some of the other promotion tipped clubs have already dropped points such as Shildon and Stockton.

Are you looking out for those results and taking encouragement from them even at this early stage?

MM: The northern league always throws up indifferent results, it such a tough and competitive league.

We are probably looking at the teams that were towards the top last season as the ones tipped to challenge, but there could be teams adding themselves to the mix this season, so you can’t predict anything.

At this early stage the league table means nothing.

I haven't looked at it once so far personally, I’m just staying focused on each game as it comes.

Q: There is a lot of competition for places right now.

In the deep-lying midfield spots there is yourself, Robbie, and Damo. We can throw Carl into the mix as he has played there in the past and Louis as well when he's fit especially with Danny and Jack doing well at the back. How healthy is this competition in keeping you all performing at your best?

MM: Competition for places is huge, it drives everybody on to perform. As a squad we know whoever Kev picks to play, they're going to be supported by the rest of the lads. The togetherness, especially since the beginning of this season, has been great to see and it is a pleasure to be a part of this squad.

Q: Just one on the Vase as we probably need to move forward a bit, especially as we don’t know the date of the final. As a former winner and someone who has played at Wembley already, can you shed some light on just how special it is?

MM: It's such a great day - winning played a huge part in that mind as I couldn't imagine the feeling of losing at Wembley. The atmosphere is amazing, so I really do hope that fans are able to be a part of it to experience the day along with the players.

MM: Not really no. The seasons always start with two games a week, adding the trip down to London didn't really help but we managed it with the squad we have.

I prefer to get as many games in now as the pitches are in their peak condition which really helps our style of play.

Q: Looking at Whickham, it's a bit of a derby and they've started well. What kind of game are you anticipating?

MM: I can’t really claim to know much about Whickham to be honest. I wasn’t here for the away game last season and obviously the home game was never played. I'm sure they will be full of energy and hard-working like all northern league teams, no game is an easy game in this league. It's a home game so it's important we put an entertaining show on for our fans and continue our good start to the season.

Whickham Club History It all began back in 1944 when the club was formed under the name of Axwell Park Colliery Welfare, although they were colloquially termed the Home Guard Team. Early on, the side played in the Derwent Valley League, before switching to the Northern Combination and, in 1974, to the Wearside League.

Whickham enjoyed quite a degree of success at this level before joining the Northern League Second Division in 1988.Having reached the Semi Final of the FA Vase in 1978-79 losing to Almondsbury Greenway, it was in 1981 that Whickham had their finest hour. The club going all the way to the Twin Towers in the final of the FA Vase, after a titanic struggle to overcome Windsor Eton in the semi Final. An estimated 5,000 fans followed Whickham to Wembley. Willenhall FC from the Midlands awaited on the big day. In a gripping Final, Whickham came back from 2-0 down to level at 2-2 at full time with goals from Alan Scott and Ronnie Williamson taking the game into Extra-time. Ecstasy followed when Billy Cawthra broke way to win it 3-2 to send the Vase back up to Tyneside.

This success leaves us as the last North East based club to win a National Final at the old Wembley Stadium which is now re-built, the club’s little piece of History. Whickham again nearly reached Wembley in 1983-84 falling short in the Semi-final in controversial fashion. The second-leg tie at home to Stansted saw two Whickham players sent off in a bad-tempered affair. After just one season in the Second Division under the management of Billy Hodgson the club gained promotion for the first time into the First Division in 1988-89 and spent three seasons there before being relegated in 19991-92.

Another promotion came in 19994-95 when they won the Second Division. A further two seasons was spent in the First Division before another relegation in 1996-97 back into the Second Division, where they’ve remained until 2018. After Billy’s reign the club struggled to find its identity and with funds tight struggled to compete and although three or four managers took over, the club found itself in a perilous position 1999-00 when without the intervention of Tony Ainley the club was in grave danger of going out of business.

Tony’s reign started with no players and no money and although his first two seasons were really about survival, the club was once again safely settled in the Northern League. Over the

next three or four years the club undertook major changes and the hard work was rewarded when after a fantastic run defeating four First Division sides on the way, the club found itself in the final of the Prestigious Durham Challenge Cup and after being second best for long spells against a very good Billingham Synthonia side, two late goals from Kenny Boyle and Ian Robson snatched Whickham an amazing victory.

The Following season the followed the capture of the DCC by winning the newly named Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup (2nd Division Cup) by defeating Penrith in an exciting Penalty Shootout. In our defence of the DCC also in that season, we also reached the Semi Final of the DCC in our defence of that Trophy before losing a close game away at Chester le Street. After Tony decided to relinquish the managerial post the club had a lot of chopping and changing but in 2013 Robin Falcus was appointed manager.

The 2012-13 season was a tough learning curve for Robin and Kris Holmes his assistant, but the club decided to stick with a plan. Anyone that knows Robin can see his passion and hunger to get the best of the players and club and the decision to stick has grown to be a great one.

Robin began to build, and things took aim. The Lang Jacks finished 6th (the highest in six years) in 2017 after a rollercoaster season and in the following season, things turned to magic.

The aim was to Improve on the previous season and that was well and truly smashed. In a tough competitive league where many other clubs had more resources, Robin managed to build a young and hungry side which defied the odds and were a surprise package, finishing third in the league thanks on a dramatic last day of the season. Third was enough for the club to secure promotion into Division One for the first time in 21 years.

The club’s past may be chequered and not without success, but Whickham FC has been on this roller-coaster. There’s been plenty difficulties, but the people behind the club have always came together for the love of the beautiful game.

In their first season back in Northern League Division One, it was a difficult campaign for the Lang Jacks, who finished second-bottom, but they still remained in the league and have tried to build on that since and become contenders in Division One of the Northern League.

Whickham Player Profiles

Goalkeepers Regan Ward Recently joined Whickham having previously played for Chester-le-Street.

Adam Cameron Young goalkeeper who also joined this summer after being released by Sunderland AFC

Defenders Kieran Galbraith Regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the Northern League, Kieran was another summer addition, arriving from Division One rivals, Bishop Auckland. The defender is a leader at the back and is excellent both in the air and also in the tackle.

Steve Bowey Bowey has been brought in as the assistant manager to Mark Convery, but is also on the books as a player. The midfielder was a former professional for a number of clubs. During his time at York City, he played alongside Convery, and went on to have spells with Gateshead, Dunston UTS, Newcastle Benfield, Bedlington Terriers and Ashington in non-league.

Jack Robson Exciting young winger, great on the ball with a bit of pace and an eye for goal. The Newcastle United academy graduate joins on loan from Morpeth, having previously played for Hebburn Town in the Northern League.

Tom Howard The former Sunderland youngster has proved to be an excellent addition and has really impressed since arriving in the summer. The full-back can get forward with ease, but is also a fantastic defender and will be one to watch this season.

Alex Francis Exciting midfielder with an eye for goal who has recently joined from his second spell at West Auckland. Previously played for Bishop Auckland, Spennymoor, Durham and Dunston.

Charlie Exley Charlie is another new addition to the squad, signing after returning back to the region following a spell playing in Scotland for Queen of the South and Gretna. The full-back has settled straight into the squad and is at home both defending and getting forward too.

Jack Errington Former Burnley FC defender, now at Whickham following spells at Blyth AFC and West Allotment Celtic.

Midfielders Conor Newton The signing of Conor, this summer, showed the club's intent for this season and beyond. The midfielder is vastly experienced and signed for Whickham after his release from Hartlepool United. The former Newcastle United Academy player has also been with St. Mirren, Rotherham United and Cambridge United.

Ross Peareth Ross is the captain of Whickham and leads by example in the middle of the park. The midfielder is a tough-tackler and enjoys picking passes out and starting attacks for his team.

Peareth is also the longest-serving player at the club.

Tom Scothern Tom is the second player to arrive at the club from Sunderland’s Academy, where he made 16 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League. After impressing management during pre-season, Scothern will be hoping to make a real impact for Whickham this season.

Dale Burrell A playmaker in the middle of the park, Dale is now entering his second season with the club and will be a real leader in the middle of the park. The midfielder enjoys the ball at his feet and also chips in with goals at crucial times.

Declan Bisset Forwards Lee McAndrew Lee will prove to be a real asset for Whickham this season.

After arriving at the club from Ashington, where he spent the last four years, he has high hopes this season. The winger, who has also played for Morpeth Town, is a two-time FA Vase winner with Dunston UTS is like lightning down the wing and causes opposition defenders nightmares with his trickery.

Scott Robson Scott signed for the club in August 2019 after a very successful two years with the Park View Academy of Sport, where he won the National Youth League and National Youth Cup - with the Carlisle PV team. The young forward is a hard-working player, who has pace to burn and will cause opposition defenders real problems. Whickham fought off competition from some of the top teams in the region for his signature. He also has previous Northern League experience with Chester-leStreet Town, where he spent the 2018-19 season.

Damien Stevens Damien re-signed for the club, having transferred away during pre-season, from Division Two side Birtley Town. The striker needs no introduction to football fans at this level, having been around for a number of years for clubs like Ashington, South Shields, Guisborough Town and he also had a spell at Marske United on loan. Stevens made his first appearance, since re-joining the club, at home to Sunderland RCA in February and scored just five minutes after coming on.

Scott McCarthy Scott was another player to come to the club and link up with former manager Mark Convery. McCarthy is a powerful centre-forward, who can also play out wide when called up and certainly knows where the back of the net is.

NoticeBoard Fixture Changes It's safe to assume you've already heard of some fixture rearrangements, especially if you're here tonight, but we thought we'd reiterate a few.

Cafe to close due to restrictions It is with regret that we have to announce that the Hungry Hornet Cafe will have to close due to new restrictions in South Tyneside.

We were supposed to be facing them at Wembley on Sunday, but with the Vase final postponed, we will now host Consett AFC at home this Saturday in an Ebac Northern League fixture.

It is a shame that these restrictions have been put in place, catering is a huge part of the lifeblood of clubs at our level.

Meanwhile, our visit to Hillheads to face Whitley Bay has been brought forward to Saturday 10th October while our visit to Ashington AFC has been pushed back to Tuesday 27th October.

We hope that in time, the powers that be will see sense with the consistency of these restrictions, but tonight we do not want to risk falling outside the guidelines and raising further questions around whether our games can continue.

Young Hornets at home in Youth Cup It would also be a valuable experience for the lads to experience playing in front of a good crowd.

The U18s got this far thanks to a spectacular penalty shootout victory over Newcastle Benfield in the Preliminary Round.

Hebburn Town U18s are at home to Workington AFC in the FA Youth Cup this Thursday evening.

The game will kick off at 8PM on Thursday 24th October and we will be welcoming spectators to cheer on the Young Hornets in their First Qualifying Round encounter.

Hebburn Town U18s have played against Workington in the last few editions of the Youth Cup, this becoming something of an annual fixture.

Hopefully, this season they can get past the Cumbrian side.

Admission to the Green Energy stadium will be ÂŁ3 for adults and ÂŁ1 for U16s, a very good price for some high stakes cup football.

It would be great to see a good attendance through the doors to support the young Hornets.

Club Hebburn was very different back in 1912. The collieries that had changed it from a small agricultural hamlet to a cosmopolitan but pretty grimy industrial town were nearing peak employment of 1,864 men, the shipyards launched by Andrew Leslie were in full vigour and the town, 11 years earlier, had welcome a diminutive Frenchman called Alphonse Reyrolle.

Reyrolle opened an engineering works, initially employing just 50 men, in the former dye factory next to St Aloysius’s church. At its peak Reyrolles would employ 12,000 men from a wide range of backgrounds, religions and cultures and export to 70 countries and be known worldwide.

The company also started a football team, encouraged by industrialist and mine owner Sir Ralph Carr-Ellison, another famous name in Hebburn history who provided the sports ground on which the Northern League side still plays. Football has played a major part in the life of the town, a cornerstone of its history.

Probably it also helped the population forget the harshness of day-to-day life, families of ten and more in insanitary, two-up two-down houses. When the last pit closed in 1931, it had claimed the lives of almost 200 men and boys.

There’d been plenty of teams before 1912, of course, notably Hebburn Argyle – kicked off in 1882 by Father Toner, the priest at St Aloysius’s. The town had so many Scots, they became known as the Tyneside Highlanders. Pre-World War 1 derbies with Jarrow would attract crowds of 8,000.The Geordie town also had Shinty and Curling Clubs and even an annual Highland Games, organised by the Hebburn Celtic Society.

Alphonse Reyrolle had actively encouraged his workers to take part in sport, including “barefoot” football, and formed the Employees’ Benevolent Association. The team formed in 1912, elected to the second division of the Jarrow and District Junior League, was suitably booted, however.

They progressed, flourished in the 1930s, had a wartime season in the North Eastern League, won the Durham Challenge Cup in 1943, and returned to the Northern Combination where they stayed until 1958. In 1959-60, Reyrolles had another season in the terminally ailing North Eastern League but finished bottom with just eight points.

The club then had 28 seasons in the Wearside League, and won the league in 1966 and the Monkwearmouth Cup in 1968.

In 1988, following the demise of the iconic engineering company A. Reyrolle, the name was changed to Hebburn and application made to join the Northern League – though it was before the days of automatic promotion and relegation and there wasn’t a vacancy. The ground was improved and other clubs canvassed. The break, however, came when North Shields created a vacancy by deciding by deciding to play elsewhere. The team played its first Northern League game on August 19 1989, winning 2-1 at Shotton Comrades, won promotion and the Durham Challenge Cup in 1992 but were relegated – contentiously – for failing to meet ground criteria. They won the Craven Cup in 1999-2000.

History In season 2011/12, Hebburn reached the FA Cup final qualifying round – a dream tie at neighbours Gateshead, from whom they were separated by 125 league places – and secured promotion in third place after a fascinating and exciting final ten games which took the team up to the first division In 2012/13 Hebburn Town met their target of staying in the first division after a nerve racking end to the season.

During the close season however manager Paul Bennett decided to leave the club for Jarrow Roofing along with his assistant Dean Nicholson. Unfortunately the team followed suit and in June the club had to start from scratch; two ex-Hebburn players Scott Oliver and Davy Bell took up the challenge and the new management team successfully assembled a squad of mainly young players with a base of experienced players to give the team a good mix.

Unfortunately, the very young and somewhat inexperienced side could not avoid relegation although they played with spirit, commitment and enthusiasm throughout the season. The team received many plaudits for their playing style and attitude and also achieved some notable results; although relegated the team got stronger as the season progressed.

The squad in 2017/2018 season had a magnificent run from Jan 2018 – May 2018 that saw the Hornets record just 2 losses in all competitions, this fine form secured promotion to the Ebac Northern League Division One by finishing in second place.

In their first season back in Division 1, Hebburn finished as runners up. Michael Richardson was the side’s top scorer with 25 goals, and then manager Scott Oliver took the side to the fifth round of the FA Vase.

The Vase run was remarkable as the home attendance record was broken twice. 1,302 people attended the game against City of Liverpool in the first round, and 1,310 people were at the game against West Auckland in the fifth round.

In the summer of 2019, manager Scott Oliver stepped down from his role and reserve team manager Kevin Bolam stepped up to the role. The new management team of Kevin Bolam and assistant Mick Mulhern had a promising first season in charge, with the team in the promotion hunt before the season was voided as well as reaching the final of the FA Vase which is still yet to be played.

Hebburn Town has now enjoyed 30 seasons and over 1,000 games in the Northern League. Hopefully, they will continue to build on their great legacy for another 1,000 games.

Tuesday 15 September Hebburn Town 4-0 West Auckland Hebburn Town made it two wins from two Northern League games with a 4-0 home rout against West Auckland.

Graeme Armstrong continued his record of a goal in every competitive game this season when he opened the scoring in the 33rd minute.

A quick-fire double from Michael McKeown and Armstrong around the hour mark gave Hebburn a comfortable three goal lead.

And Amar Purewal completed the scoring against his former club in the 88th minute.

Hebburn went into the game looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they were sent out of the FA Cup on penalties at home to Pontefract.

Standing in their way was a West Auckland side who have had an uncharacteristically poor start to the season having lost both of their league games and shipped five goals in both matches.

The Hornets looked in control from the start of the first half but we’re struggling to convert developing chances into clear-cut chances.

Purewal looked in the mood from the start and had the best chance of the first 20 minutes when he controlled a long ball from Robbie Spence and looked to get through but he couldn’t beat an outrushing Thomas Flynn.

The breakthrough came just over 10 minutes later when Armstrong controlled Tom Potter’s pass with his back to goal just outside the six-yard-box and somehow managed to work the space to release a shot which cannoned in off a defender.

Mark Foden made his only save of the game in the 38th minute when a mistake at the back allowed Jordan Blinco a shot from the edge of the box but it was straight at the Hornets' 'keeper.

And the early signs looked good for another Hebburn victory, Graeme Armstrong firing over from the edge of the box after good work from Purewal in the 6th minute.

After coming in at half-time having been the better side but probably lucky to be 1-0 based on the amount of clear cut chances created, there was a clear hunger to try and go up another gear in the second.

And the Hornets took the lead just a minute later when Armstrong squared to Purewal who couldn't get a sight of goal but laid the ball off for Potter who stabbed the ball into the bottom left corner.

And the Hornets did just that, wearing West down in a 15 minute spell where the home side created chance after chance.

Hebburn continued well on top but were failing to convert chances in the rest of the first half and the start of the second.

Carl Taylor and Armstrong both forced reaction saves from Flynn, while a speculative Spence effort flew just over the bar.

Meanwhile, Seaham sent a warning on the counter when Daniel Sayer slid through Taylor Richardson who put his one-on-one wide in the 65th minute.

And the pressure finally paid thanks to a McKeown thunderbolt in the 58th minute when the ball broke for him just outside the box and he released a stunning strike into the top right corner.

The visitors needed to get the second goal to settle the nerves and they did just that three minutes later when Purewal picked the ball up in the centre edge of the box and fired into the left corner.

It took less than two minutes for the Hornets to be two ahead, Armstrong adding a superb lobbed finish on the end of a nice passing move.

The advantage was extended again within five minutes when Armstrong managed to play the ball to Potter inside the box while losing his balance who then controlled before drilling home at the 'keeper's near post.

Following that, the chances died down but there was still time for Purewal to complete the rout in the 88th minute.

The former West Auckland attacker won the ball in the attacking third and smashed past Flynn who managed to get a fingertip to it from just inside the box.

Hebburn Town will now look to keep up their 100% league record when they head to Seaham Red Star for their first away league game of the season.

It then took just another five minutes for Hebburn to get the fourth when Carl Taylor's low cross was deflected into the air and substitute Lewis Suddick added a fantastic acrobatic finish.

Hebburn had chances to extend the scoreline even further in the final 10 minutes, Cedwyn Scott and Purewal both failing to convert good opportunities.

Saturday 19 September Seaham Red Star 0-4 Hebburn Town Tom Potter bagged a brace as Hebburn Town ran out 4-0 winners away to Seaham Red Star in the Ebac Northern League.

Hebburn took a very early lead through Potter in the 7th minute.

It took until the 68th minute for the Hornets to double their lead through Amar Purewal.

From there, the away side run riot, adding two more goals through Potter in the 73rd minute and Lewis Suddick in the 78th minute.

On the back of a 4-0 home victory at home to West Auckland into midweek, Hebburn Town headed into the game full of confidence.

We put the spotlight on our next opponents. This week, the team in question is Consett AFC, who we should have been playing in a very different fixture this weekend.

We will be at home again this weekend as we face a Consett AFC side who we should have been facing in the FA Vase Final at Wembley this weekend.

Instead we will take them on at The Green Energy Stadium in a Northern League fixture.

Consett are a side that always seem to be towards the top of Division One of the Northern League and will be expecting no different than to be challenging this season.

They ended last season's voided campaign in 6th place, thirteen points behind ourselves in third but with four games in hand.

They tend to play a nice, passing style of football suited to the artificial turf of their home ground, which the well-maintained surface at the Green Energy Stadium should not be too different to.

They have taken two wins from their first two league games this season, beating Seaham 6-2 away and Newcastle Benfield 3-2 at home.

They have also made a good start to the FA Cup, beating Ryhope CW and higher league opposition in Ossett United on their way to the First Qualifying round where they play fellow top Northern League opposition, Stockton Town, at home tonight.

They have won every game in all competitions this season, if you count the penalties win against Ossett United in the FA Cup, including making the Vase final with a 1-0 semi-final win over Bitton.

Their side boasts a few players that have played at a higher level, such as Jake Orrell and Dale Pearson who have played in the Conference with Blyth. They also have the twin brother of our very own Amar Purewal, centre-back Arjun, among their ranks.

They are an attacking side, like ourselves, and it showed in the fixture at Belle View which ended in a 4-4 draw last season. However, our home match was completely different, also ending in a draw but on that occasion it was 0-0.

Editor’s Notes Hello and welcome everybody to the Green Energy Stadium for a home game against Whickham AFC. I’d also like to wish a warm welcome to everyone associated with Whickham for what should hopefully be another entertaining Northern League encounter.

We come into this game on the back of two very positive league results.

In both of the 4-0 victories, West Auckland at home and Seaham Red Star away, we were on top from start to finish.

We then travelled away for the first time in the league this season, and the first time since the FA Vase game down in Kent.

Once again we were on top early doors and were ahead within seven minutes thanks to Tom Potter.

And again, from there we were frustrated, seeing a lot of chances go begging. It seemed to take forever for us to find that second but it eventually came thanks to that man Amar again.

It was great to see Tom get on the scoresheet, not once but twice. He has been brilliant at the start of Against West Auckland, the lads started a little bit this season and the only thing missing from his game below their best. They were seeing more of the ball has been goals. Those goals should give him a big and getting forward, but they were struggling to turn boost and he should continue to excite fans with his developing chances into clear cut chances. excellent bursts down the wing.

Nevertheless, we went into half-time ahead as Graeme Armstrong put us ahead around the half hour.

In the second half, it was clear that Kevin and Mick must have said something that resonated with the players, as they were on fire from the start and were much more efficient in creating genuine chances.

However, we were still frustrated in terms of putting one in the back of the net until Michael McKeown scored an absolute wonder goal.

From there we ran riot, and it was great to see Amar hit the back of the net against his former club.

The defensive performances have been excellent, three clean sheets from three, the standards the lads have set have been immense and hopefully they continue those performances.

We now face a Whickham side full of quality.

They have a manager that has been around the Northern League, and been successful at this level in the past.

It feels like since Whickham arrived in Division One they have been in the process of building a quality squad.

Under Mark Convery, they seem to be finally clicking and they have made a very good start to this season.

I am looking forward to seeing Jack Robson in action again, a player that has always had the ability to excite. Although, hopefully it will be the likes of Potter and Amar that provide most of the excitement tonight.
