Week 1

- Introduction -

Choose three sketches that you aspire to be and deem as a goal for this course

5

Week 1 Assignment

Why this sketch?

In this sketch, I like how the lines are defined and have a definite shapes, but at the same time, the artist used a great amount of detail to make it seem more lively. The texture is portrayed through the use of shadowing and shading to make it look more realistic which is what I enjoy about it. As well, it looks like I’m looking at a real picture, not a drawing and that is another reason why I like it.

6

Week 1 Assignment

In this sketch, I like the way the drawing was placed in which there is a foreground, a middle ground, and a background which helps whoever is looking at it have a better idea of the proportions the author is drawing. As well, I like when nature is drawn next to buildings or things with structure because it makes it look more pleasing to the eye and more realistic in my opinion.

7

Reflection

In this assignment I researched different kind of sketches that I aspire to achieve in my drawings, and it was very educational to see different kinds of styles that

I could (attempt) to achieve while working on my assignments.

8

Week 2

2D Composition Practice

Rubric:

Neatness

-The sketch must be organized and neat, in terms of the paper format or size, as well as writing of student name and ID.

- Neat outlines, where the rendering of the different surfaces represent the form rather than the outlines. No rulers are allowed in the course.

Perspective: Perspective drawings are accepted to a minimum standard, where the rules of perspective discussed in class are implied.

9

Classwork

In this assignment, we found three spots on campus that we liked, and traced them using transparency paper. While tracing, I found myself having a hard time trying to adapt to the 3D structure, as well as putting the perspective of the location in mind.

10

Classwork

As well, we drew objects on a table from our perspective point and I think this activity helped improve what I struggled with in the first activity. I also had a hard time in drawing straight lines as shown on the far right and the two objects overlapping.

11
Week 2 Assignments 1. Choose 3 photos as a sketch/drawing target 2. From 2D shot picked; 3 photos draw 3 sketches and put Grade % 3. Draw the composition from eye level 4. Lines drawing assignment 12

Choose 3 photos

13

2D Shot

This assignment was three object from different perspective points on a flat surface. I had a hard time doing this assignment because I wasn’t used to drawing perspective. The assignment wasn’t graded, but I got a 6/10 because of incorrect outlines, neatness, misuse of line techniques, and the line composition.

14

Line Drawing

This assignment was a line practicing exercise where we drews a cityline from a photo. However, it’s evident that the lines from the reflection isn’t aligned as well as the details don’t look very neat.

15

Week 3: Perspective Drawing

Classwork: Perspective and Hatching Practice

Homework: 3-01 (Object in Different Angles)

Ex. 3-02 (sketch using (ink or pencil) a composition of 3 cubes from 2 different view take a photo for each) (paper size A3)

Ex. 3-03 (sketch the perspective building in printed hand out using using (ink or pencil) (paper size A4)

16

Rubric:

Neatness:

-The sketch must be organized and neat, in terms of the paper format or size, as well as writing of student name and ID.

-Neat outlines, where the rendering of the different surfaces represent the form rather than the outlines.

No rulers are allowed in the course.

proportion of objects: observed objects must be sketched in right proportions and scale.

Perspective: Perspective drawings are accepted to a minimum standard, where the rules of perspective discussed in class are implied.

17

Classwork

The classwork was to practice drawing cubic structure using one and two perspective points. I learned a lot with this exercise and it was the first time it was introduced.

18

Classwork

With this classwork I practiced different line techniques like a brick structure and several forms of hatching. I lines aren’t completely aligned and the spacing between each square isn’t perfectly aligned.

19

Homework

Grade: 7.5

Reflection: This assignment was to practice reflection points, and I think I start to improve here. Feedback: I still have difficulty using straight lines in my composition. As well, it isn’t very neat

20

Homework

Grade: 8.5/10

Feedback: Positioning of the perspective point isn’t accurate

21

Week 4: Rendering Drawings

4-01 Please watch the following tutorials and follow the steps ( Paper Size A3)

4-02 Print the attached sheet to solve the exercises( paper size A3 )

1. Page 1 Fill the Boxes (water color)

2. Page 2 Choose a color and make its gradient (water color)

3. Page 3 fill the 12 boxes with a different types of hatching and try to hatch the following shapes ( By Pencil shade and shadow )

4. Page 4 fill the shapes by choosing a 3 different techniques of shading

3- Ex. 4-03 Freehand perspective choose 1 or 2 views from the selected spot (paper size A3)

1. Draw it with a pencil .

2. Rendering by water color .

Perspective: Perspective drawings are accepted to a minimum standard, where the rules of perspective discussed in class are implied.

Rendering:Sketches must be rendered in the assigned media. Submitting just the outline of an object is insufficient.

23

Classwork: Watercolor

During class, we practiced basic watercolor techniques we can utilize when rendering our buildings.

24

Homework

Grade: 5.5

Feedback: The paper was the wrong sizing and not the right material. As well, watercolor wasn’t neat

Reflection: I had a hard time controlling the watercolor so it didn’t turn out neat.

25

Homework

I practiced shading techniques here, however points were deducted because of the wrong format. As well, lines weren’t straight in shade reflection. Feedback: The hatching techniques were correct with straight lines. It was important that I follow the light source which I didn’t Grade: 7.5

26

Homework

Grade: 6.5

Feedback: In the assignment I was told that the watercolor wasn’t very neat, and the perspective points weren’t accurate. As well, the picture should have been extended throughout the paper. Reflection: While drawing this, I realized that my watercolor technique may be a bit rushed, as well I needed to practice my perspective a lot more.

27

Week 5: Watercolor Practice

5-01: Finish the C.W Freehand perspective sketch then scan it ( Paper size

A3 ) - Draw it with a pencil . - Don’t Render the sketch by watercolor or Any other needs.. keep it with pencil.

5-02: Please watch all the following tutorials and choose one video to follow it (step by step till you finish the sketch ( Paper Size A3)

- Draw it with a pencil . - Render the sketch by watercolor like the video.

29

Classwork: On-Scene drawing

In class, we went to a location in university and drew the scene by hand using perspective. This allowed me to improve working on my perspective drawing.

30

Homework

Grade: 6.5

Feedback: The perspective points weren’t very correct, as well the rendering didn’t portray what kind of material the building was.

Reflection: While drawing this, I realized that my watercolor technique may be a bit rushed, as well I needed to practice my perspective a lot more.

31

Homework

Grade: 8.0

Feedback: I wasn’t given much feedback on this drawing, however I think my watercolor technique started to improve a lot here. Reflection: The only flaw was that the colors weren’t very blended and the perspective lines weren’t very straight.

32

Grade: 6.5

Feedback: While I got a B in class, for the assignment I was given less because I rendered the scene incorrectly which makes it hard to tell the material
