Thisprocedurecoverstheremovalandinstallationof thefrontwheelhubandbrakedrum.
Removal
1.Lower,detach,andsecureload,asrequired.
2.Stabilizethecraneforserviceasfollows:
a.Parkthecrane,outoftheway,onafirmand levelsurface.
b.Engagetheparkbrake.
c.Engagetheswingparkbrakeortravelswing lock,asrequired.
d.Levelthecraneonfullyextendedoutriggers.
e.Position/supporttheboom,asrequired.
3.Shutdowntheengineanddisengagethemain hydraulicpump,asequipped.

BrakeLiningFiberWarning
Olderbrakeliningsmaycontainasbestos fibers,acancerandlungdiseasehazard. Brakeliningsmanufacturedtodaycontain non--asbestosfibers,whoselong--term effectstohealthareunknown.Usecaution whenhandlingeitherasbestosor non--asbestosmaterialsusedinbrake linings.RefertoOSHAregulationsforproper handlingofthesematerials.MaterialSafety DataSheets(MSDS)regardingbrakelining materialscanbeobtainedfromyourlocal distributor.
4.Removethetireandrimassemblyfromthewheel. RefertoSMKeysheetArea01---069forcorrect procedure.
Solventsandcleaningsolutionscanbe hazardous.Seriouspersonalinjurymay resultfrommisuseoftheseproducts.Read andfollowallthemanufacturers recommendationsconcerningsolventsand cleaningsolutions.
5.Thoroughlycleanareatobedisassembledwithan approvedcleaningsolvent.Allowareatoairdry.
6.Backoffthebrakeshoesfromtheinnerdiameterof thebrakedrumbyusingtheadjustmentscrewon theslackadjuster.RefertoSMKeysheetArea 01---003formoredetailedinformationonbrake adjustmentandslackadjusters.

7.Supportthebrakedrum(8)withanappropriate liftingdeviceremoveitfromthewheelhub(10)by pullingitoffthelugs(11).Itmaybenecessaryto striketheinnerrimofthebrakedrum(8)withasoft facehammertobreakitfreeofthewheelhub(10).
8.Placeasuitablecontainerunderthewheelhub (10).Removecapscrews(1)securinghubcap(2) tothewheelhub(10).Removehubcap(2).Drain theoilfromthewheelhub(10).
9.Removethegasket(6)fromwheelhub(10)and hubcap(2).Properlystoreordisposeofusedoil.
10.Usinganauxiliaryliftingdevice,adequately supportwheelhub(10).

11.Afteroilhasthoroughlydrainedfromwheelhub:
a. Style1: Removejamnut(1),retainerwasher (2),lockwasher(3),andadjustingnut(4)from spindle(5).
b. Style2: Removecotterpin(8),adjustingnut (7),andthrustwasher(6)fromspindle(5).

12.Slowlyremovewheelhub(10)fromthespindle (15).Thebearingcone(7)islooseandmaybe removedaheadofthewheelhub(10).Usecare nottodamagebearingcones(7,13),wheelhub (10),seal(14)orspindle(15).
CAUTION
Removingsometypesofsealsfromthewheel hubmaycausepermanentdamagetothe seal.Reusingadamagedsealwilleventually causethefailureofthewheelbearings.Do notinstalladamagedseal.
13.Toremovethebearingcone(13)fromthewheel hub(10),theseal(14)mustfirstberemoved.Refer toFigure3throughFigure5toidentifythestyleof seal(14)used.
14.Removeseal(14)andbearingcones(7,13)from wheelhub(10).Ifequipped,removetheaxlering (6,Figure5)fromthespindle(15),usingaballpeen hammer.Donotcutthroughtheaxleringas damagetothespindle(15)mayresult.
15.Removebearingcups(9,12)fromthewheelhub (10),asrequired.
