The term has gone by so quickly! With the numerous concerts and performances significant at this time of year, coupled with mock exams for Form V and the Upper Sixth, the girls have worked incredibly hard and focused themselves so diligently; they have all earned a well-deserved rest!

Lower School Production of Twelfth Night Subscribe Students Past Issues Translate from Forms II to IV participated once again in the Shakespeare Schools Festival.

They performed an abridged version of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night with a jazz age twist at the Wilde Theatre in South Hill Park.

On Friday 30 November in St Mary’s Theatre at Heathfield the students performed again before the whole school, parents and prospective families. The adaptation took place on a 1920’s Hollywood film set. The performance included music, tap dancing and a few umbrellas thrown in for good measure!

With interwoven moments of poignant romance and sparkling humour, Shakespeare’s play explores themes of love, loss and self-discovery. The girls delivered an energetic, engaging and witty performance that delighted the audience and brought the play to life. Many thanks and congratulations to everyone who contributed to the production.

Tycoon in Schools Tycoon is a unique national enterprise competition for students aged 6 to 18 organised by the Peter Jones Foundation. Every participating team writes a business plan, is lent money, starts a business and competes with other student companies through a sophisticated kickstarter style platform, in a safe and controlled environment The competition runs during the autumn term and trading kicks off in November and runs for a four-week period, with the overall winner being announced in the January. The foundation provides goodwill start up capital, so only when student companies breakeven, do they repay their loan. Heathfield has three business in the competition and all students sold their wares at St Nicholas’ Stalls. Currently SNUG are second nationally in the Tycoon competition and Diversion is third.

SNUG We have set up our own business whilst participating in the tycoon competition. Our business is called SNUG, standing for ‘super natural underwear for girls’. We have decided to sell underwear because, you can never have enough knickers. Knickers are an essential part of everyday life. These seamless pants allow girls to buy some well fitted, comfortable pants consisting of a range of colours. In the near future we plan on creating new ranges such as personalising the underwear so they become unique to each individual.

Clemmie, Immie and Phoebe (Lower Sixth) Diversion We are selling T-shirts for Tycoon in Schools and our brand is called Diversion. So far, we have made £590 profit and we plan to carry on our business after Tycoon and expanding it to sell more clothing such as beanies and hoodies. We have sold over 80 T-Shirts and have more orders! We have created a simplistic tee that both men and women are able to wear. It is a comfortable t-shirt that can be used in everyday life, including sport and leisure.

Fellowship Carol Service This year, the Fellowship Carol Service was held at the Chelsea Old Church. On Thursday 29 November we welcomed nearly 100 Old Girls to this wonderful historical church on Cheyne Walk.

The choir sang beautifully from the gallery alongside Miss Kong who played the organ magnificently while Mrs Dance conducted the singers from the main part of the church. It was a wonderful evening, enjoyed by everyone.

Leiths Christmas Cake Competition

Upper Sixth students taking the Leiths Food and Wine Course made some amazing cakes for our annual Christmas Competition. Staff voted for their favourite cakes in each category and the winners were: Most technically proficient: Alex for her wreath design Most technically ambitious: Page for her deer design Most creative: Darcey for Santa in the bath Best Traditional: Harriet for her pine cone design Best Original: Phillipa for her house with a glass lake Well done to the winners and to everyone who took part, they were all of a very high standard.

Christmas Drinks The festive spirit was truly overflowing at our annual Christmas Drinks on Monday at the Sladmore Contemporary Gallery in Bruton Place. Joined by over 100 current parents, Prep Heads and prospective parents, it was a fantastic opportunity to mix and mingle. Mrs Gardiner Legge’s speech, reflected on the events of 2018 and spoke of the School’s ambitions and expectations for 2019. Thank you to everyone who attended for making the evening so enjoyable and memorable.

Christmas Lunch Christmas jumpers, tinsel and glitter were worn by both staff and students on Tuesday as everyone got into the festive spirit. Everyone enjoyed a fabulous Christmas Lunch featuring traditional roast Turkey which was served with all the trimmings followed by yule log, shortbread, gateaux and mince pies.

The heritage of Heathfield was celebrated with songs and chants that girls pass down through the year groups. Mrs Gardiner Legge dressed up as Father Christmas and even the school dogs wore Christmas outfits. The tradition of the youngest girl in school dismissing the girls after lunch was performed by Diana in Form I. Carol Service Michaelmas Term ended in the traditional way with a positive and moving celebration of the Christmas story. Readings were given by Allegra, Form I; Mrs Anna Milner, Science Department; Tilda, Form IV; Jasmine, UVI; Mrs Lesley Worrall, Head of Lower School & Teacher of Geography; Sophia, Head Girl and Mrs Gardiner-Legge, Headmistress.

There were outstanding duet and solo performances from Sasha, Form I; Tansy, LVI; Katherine, Form IV; Alexandra, Form IV; Sophie, Form V and Phoebe, LVI; Frankie, Form III; Emma, LVI; Lucy and Lulu, Form III and Sophie, Head Girl. All were greeted with loud applause from the parents and staff.

The Heathfield Top 12 singers, Form I Choir, Form II Choir, The Senior Choir and the Staff Choir all performed alongside the school band and orchestra. Mrs Dance and Miss Kong from the Music Department work tirelessly rehearsing, arranging and nurturing the musical talent at Heathfield, all year round.

Following the Address by Chaplain Fr David Clues there was a rousing rendition of O Come All Ye Faithful. A fitting and uplifting way to end the term as the school community departed to start their well-earned holiday.

Sports Report It has been a fantastic term of sport and some outstanding performances from our girls.

Throughout the highs and lows of the season, they have made me so proud demonstrating their commitment, eagerness and sportsmanship. As well as the mass of fixtures for the main sports of Lacrosse, Netball and Swimming, we have participated in a Regional Trampolining competition after only a few weeks of practice, as well as organising our first hockey fixtures for early in the New Year.

I am thrilled so many girls have competed and represented the school over the last term, and I continue to strive to ensure there is a sporting activity available to all of our girls. I look forward to seeing what achievements and successes 2019 brings! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Netball Wednesday 28 November On Wednesday, our U14 netball team played against St Georges, Ascot. Although the team lost, Izzy played well on the court, earning herself player of the match. The team worked very hard to keep possession of the ball in attack and our defence was preventing the opposition from scoring by working together to keep the attack opposition out of the circle.

The spirits and the efforts stayed high throughout the whole game.

Lulu, Form III Thursday 29 November U13 The Marist U13 won 8-7 Player Of the Match, Orianna (Form II) Wednesday 5 December U15 The Marist On Wednesday the 5th of December, the U15 netball played against the U17 Marist team. By the end of the first quarter, the score was 6-13 to them however by the third quarter we had been able to catch them up and were drawing 22-22 with 12 minutes to go. We, unfortunately, fought our best but were unable to match them. The final score being 29-33 to the Marist. Somerville Weekend 1 – 2 December The Saturday Lacrosse matches were called off because of the heavy morning rain.

The Bronte House girls used the time normally taken up by Lacrosse to rehearse for their Talent Contest next week.

After lunch a group of Form III and IV students visited the Royal Academy of Art to see the highly acclaimed Oceania exhibition. The girls came away with new ideas for their own art work and an awareness of non-western art.

Back at school Forms I and II spent the afternoon making and decorating ginger bread houses. Meanwhile, Form V and Lower Sixth continued to revise for mock examinations.

On Sunday morning Forms I and II were back on cookery duty to decorate cupcakes. Popular designs were unicorns and pigs! After brunch they swapped their cooking aprons for spray cans. The Graffiti Stars company had set up in the assembly hall to teach the students to use spray cans to paint designs onto small boards. Every student in Bronte house painted their own board and to a good standard due to the excellent instruction from tutors Leon and Beth.

Form III were happy to get out of the school, when they walked up to Ascot High Street for some free time. Several girls from Form IV spent the afternoon ice skating at Bracknell.

To finish their activities for the weekend Forms I and II made and decorated Christmas wreaths that are now hanging in the dining hall.

Seacole Weekend 8 - 9 December During the morning Lacrosse matches took place at school whilst Form V & UVI spent the day revising for their mock exams.

The girls spent the afternoon with their Houses and rehearsed for pantomime performances. Austen rehearsed their version of Cinderella, DeValois chose Snow White, Seacole chose Aladdin and Somerville Little Red Riding Hood.

In the evening parents arrived to watch the outstanding and hilarious performances. St Mary’s Theatre was filled with raucous laughter and the evening was a great success.

Sunday began with Chapel at 10 am then Forms I to IV travelled to Woking Theatre to see the professional pantomime production of Cinderella.

Parents were welcomed to school again on Sunday to watch the Bronte House talent show and our gifted students showcased their skills which were met with rapturous applause. We all enjoyed a very theatrical weekend!
