Museum assessment to set its future direction Noosa Council has commissioned Queensland Museum development officer Josh Tarrant to review the Noosa Museum collection and operations and produce a significant assessment report as a prelude to developing a strategic plan. The council is meeting the $20,000 cost and has indicated that it will study the findings before considering financial assistance to the museum using heritage levy funding.
They came, they saw and they understood our passion for Pomona and its sense of place in our psyche and the Biosphere. About 80 architectural students from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) visited Pomona last month to get ideas for buildings they will design as part of their coursework. Locals welcomed the students and their enthusiasm, with Lions and the Noosa Namaste offering ‘student special’ deals. The students now have three months to finalise their concept plans before submitting them to tutors and lectures. Moves are underway to have a display of their works at Pomona. Excited by their visit to Pomona are QUT students Rhys Mellish (left), Chloe Parer and Josh Boscaino.
Meanwhile, urgent repairs were needed to fix a leaky roof and additional sandbags have been placed at the front of the building to prevent rainwater inundation. “This is a temporary measure and requires a permanent solution to the annual problem of flooding concerns to the ground floor displays,” said Cooroora Historical Society president, Jeanette Alfredson.
