BUILDING THE PERFECT GOLFER GOODIE BAG When a golfer decides to play in a tournament, there are certain things they expect to receive for their registration in a tournament. They expect whatever has been advertised leading up to the tournament to be delivered, they expect to play golf, they expect food, they expect prizes and they expect a goodie bag. Goodie bags come in all sorts of shapes and sizes filled with various contents. Typically, when you put together a goodie bag, the contents will be determined by your sponsors or by your budget. You can work to build the specific items you want with your sponsorship packages. For instance, the $1,500 sponsorship would include a foursome, signage, and tees in the goodie bag. When you’re building the appropriate pricing for a sponsorship, don’t forget to include the cost of the item.

golfer goodie bag is your audience! Don’t waste money on putting together a golfer goodie bag when there are items that people may not use. Here are some questions to consider: •

What are their interests?

What would they use?

What do they expect?

The last question is extremely important. The expectation of the golfer is going to determine their happiness with the golfer goodie bag. If your golfers have high handicaps and frequently lose balls, maybe they expect a sleeve of balls in their bag. If the registration for the tournament is expensive, maybe they expect a certain value of the bag contents.

You should also consider the response you receive from golfers from your previous tournaments. No matter where you get the money from What things did they like and what things did (sponsors or it’s budgeted), the most important they not care for so much? thing to keep in mind when building the perfect

LET’S BUILD THE PERFECT GOLFER GOODIE BAG: 1. Begin with the physical bag. Are you using a plastic bag? Maybe you have the budget to purchase a golf shoe bag to hold your goodies in. Whatever you choose, make sure it fits within your budget and it can hold all of the items you have. 2. I always start off with hand sanitizer. You can pick up individual hand sanitizers at your local drug store for $1.50 each, or you can get it wrapped with you logo for a little more. Hand sanitizer will be one of the most used things in the bag, especially when they’re taking a break from swinging on the course to enjoy a snack. 3. Give them a snack in their bag. Stick with a hearty granola bar with a long expiration date and stay away from the chocolate varieties. Golfers may eat them at your tournament or stash it in their bag for the next outing. 4. I almost always include a sleeve of balls. Although the skills of golfers vary at the tournaments I’ve planned, it’s one of the things people are glad I include. Golfers can always use balls. 5. Same goes with a pack of tees. This is especially important if you have a lot of people traveling from out of town and renting clubs. They may remember to bring their glove and shoes, but they almost always forget tees. Tees run pretty cheap and can be logo’d for less than $1 per pack. If you want to splurge, you can get tees, ball marker and divot repair tool in each pack for less than $2. 6. Along with golf products the participant needs, think of items they might have forgotten, that will help them enjoy their round: sunscreen, bug spray, lip balm, etc. 7. Add items related to the theme of your tournament. If you’re hosting a tournament raising money for breast cancer, add something that is pink. 8. Last, go back to the bag you chose and make sure all of your goodies will fit in the bag!

WHAT’S NEW IN GOLFER GOODIE BAGS?

HANDING OUT THE GOLFER GOODIE BAG Once you’ve built the perfect bag, work with your contact at the golf course to determine the best way to hand them out for your tournament. Will they put them on the golf carts for you? That’s typically the easiest thing. If your golfer goodie bags are personalized to the golfer, it’s better to hand them out when the golfers check-in for registration.

How do you save time putting your golfer goodie bags together (and volunteers and their time)? You contact BirdieBox to put them together for you! They have a catalog of items you can pick from, both golf and non-golf products. Although BirdieBox is a monthly subscription box for golfers (like Birchbox), they knew there was a need for tournaments. That’s why they brand the boxes with a sleeve over the box with your desired graphic. They also work with all budgets, so you can use it as golfer goodie bags or as prizes for your winning teams.
