FROM THE SCOUT EXECUTIVE COUNCIL CALENDAR

New Leadership Standards As you may be aware, on July 27, the National Executive Board of the BSA ratified a resolution that removes the national restriction on openly gay adult leaders and employees. I thought it was important to share the facts as to what this change will mean to Scouting.

One of the things that has kept the Scouting program strong and viable for over a century is our conservative approach to evolve our program with or even a little behind societal norms. Our Chartered Partner concept has been a strength with over 70% of our units chartered to religious organizations.

The discussion on gay rights is a divisive issue in our society and goes far beyond the Scouting program.

The proposed resolution will allow Chartered Organizations to select and approve their own adult volunteer leadership provided they meet all leadership criteria and criminal background checks.

This continues Scouting's longstanding policy of Chartered Organizations selecting their own leaders.

This change upholds the right of religious freedom of the Chartered Organizations to choose adult volunteer leaders based on beliefs consistent with their organizational doctrine. This change also allows Scouting's members and parents to select local units and Chartered Organizations that are in line with their personal beliefs and family's needs.

All Chartered Organizations will select their leaders and can require adult leaders to demonstrate behavior that exemplifies the highest level of good conduct and respect for others based on their beliefs. The BSA will steadfastly ensure that religious Chartered Organizations have the right to select leaders whose beliefs are consistent with those of the religious organization. As rights given through our Constitution, a Chartered Organization's right to maintain duty to God is protected by the First Amendment.

District Realignment Council Board Approves New Plan

You’ve probably heard about the Heart of America Council’s district realignment plan in some way or another over the past few months. But what exactly does district realignment mean and what happens next?

Here's a quick rundown…

On June 26, 2015, the Council’s Board of Directors unanimously approved the plan set forth by the realignment task force. The new realignment structure will allow the council to serve more youth within our communities and help us create the best possible Scouting experience for our families and volunteers. The new district realignment structure will…

• Permit the more effective assignment of Scouting professionals to support volunteers in the delivery of the Scouting program • Engage more volunteers in leading the delivery of the Scouting program • Encourage more individuals and businesses to give generously to support the delivery of the Scouting program in their communities • Encourage school districts to engage cooperatively with council volunteers and professionals to ensure the growth of the Scouting program • Increase the number of youth and adults registered in the Scouting program and the number of units that they may choose to join.

• Divide current North Star District into two districts along Clay/Platte County line • Align current Blue Elk District according to school district boundaries • Divide current Thunderbird District at the Jackson County line • Reorganize the remainder of the current Thunderbird and Lone Bear as two districts, one including Bates and Cass counties and one including the remainder of the current Lone Bear District • Reorganize the current four Johnson County Kansas districts into three districts aligned to boundaries of the Shawnee Mission School District, the Blue Valley School District, and the Olathe/DeSoto/Gardner-Edgerton/Spring Hill School Districts

• Establish a new LDS Administrative District only for administrative functions of membership, finance, and governance. LDS units will maintain a strong relationship with their geographic districts for program and unit service related to program and training consistent with BSA policies.

• Districts that will see very little or no change in boundaries are: Big Muddy, Exploring, Frontier, Kaw, Pelathe, Pioneer Trails, Twin Rivers The last significant study of the alignment of districts and resources occurred in 2000. The task force recommends that district realignment be reviewed no less than every five years. The task force recognizes that the hiring of additional professionals will be necessary as the districts grow in membership and units.

The new district reorganization will ultimately result in 17 districts across the council. Our current or “Legacy Districts” will continue to operate as normal and deliver the Scouting program until realignment officially goes into effect on January 1, 2016.

As of July 1, 2015, the council’s professional staff was assigned to their “new” district assignments.

Gridiron Glory Scout Night Wednesday, August 26 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm Union Station $15 per person Gridiron Glory Scout Night is a private event held exclusively for the Scouting community. Witness 50 years of football history while socializing with fellow Scouters.

The event is open to all current and former Scouters and is being hosted by the Heart of America Council Alumni Association. This interactive multimedia experience captures the essence of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and includes new material from NFL Films, immersive fan experiences and a speciallydesigned “Hometown Tribute” to the Kansas City Chiefs. American Royal Parade Moves to Arrowhead The 2015 American Royal Parade is moving to Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, October 3 during the World Series of Barbecue. The parade kicks off at 10:00 am and all Scouts are encouraged to attend and be part of the largest group entry. All participants who pre-register will receive the commemorative 2015 American Royal Parade Patch. In addition to the parade, Scouts and their families are also invited to the American Royal Cowtown Family Fun Fest.

2015 DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN Welsh Named 2015 Distinguished Citizen On October 15, the Heart of America Council will honor Polsinelli Chairman and CEO, Russ Welsh, with the 2015 Distinguished Citizen Award.

The Distinguished Citizen Award honors an individual or company in the Kansas City area for their efforts in making a distinct difference in the fabric of our community. The annual event highlights our Scoutreach programs and the in-roads Scouting is making to bring the values and life skills to young people who might not otherwise be reached because of socio-economic barriers. Another highlight of the Distinguished Citizen Award dinner is the presentation of two $10,000 scholarships to local Eagle Scouts. This year’s scholarship recipients are…

Gilberto Ortiz 2015 Ewing Marion Kauffman Scholarship Gilberto Ortiz is an Eagle Scout from Troop 1080 in the Pioneer Trails District. He is a Firebuilder in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and has served his troop as Senior Patrol Leader. While in high school he developed a passion for robotics and also participated in science, swimming and band. In the fall, Gilberto will attend Missouri University of Science & Technology where he plans to major in engineering.

Steven Ozaki 2015 Russ Welsh Scholarship Steven Ozaki is an Eagle Scout from Troop 60 in the Pelathe District. Steven has held numerous Scouting positions, most notably Order of the Arrow Lodge Chief and Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. His high school achievements include National Honor Society, Boys’ State and membership in the FYI Club which focuses on leadership and drug & alcohol prevention. Steven plans to attend the University of Kansas in the fall to pursue a career in international business.

Get ready for the ultimate adrenaline rush! The ATV program at Naish is here and will focus on equipping Scouts with the knowledge, judgment and skills to safely operate a four-wheel ATV.

ATV FAST FACTS

•E ight student-model Polaris Phoenix 200’s are at Camp Naish, along with two instructormodel Polaris Sportsman ETXs. • The council will introduce its regular ATV Safety Course starting with OA Fall Induction #2 at Camp Naish on August 29. Scouts must be 14 years of age or older to participate.

ArrowTour Nearly 400 people gathered at Camp Naish on June 20 to experience ArrowTour, one of the many programs celebrating the Order of the Arrow's centennial anniversary.

ArrowTour provided opportunities to reflect, connect and discover the Order's Centuries of Service, both past and future.

International Staffers Make a Splash at Naish Meet Carina Westford from Guyana and Ana Marti Pages from Spain. Both are lifelong Scouts and both spent their summer at the Theodore Naish Scout Reservation.

Carina has “been a Scouter for 11 years and change.” She just completed her second year of studies at the University of Guyana where she’s International camp staffers Carina Westford and Ana Marti Pages studying to become a medical imaging professional. Scouting has had a tremendous impact in helping Carina choose her career path and adult leaders have helped her stay focused on her studies. Carina said the 80-degree temperatures of June “were really cold at first,” but by July 4 she had adjusted to the mild Midwest summer. On July 14th, when the heat index reached 121 degrees, the Kansas weather finally felt comfortable to her.

Ana Marti Pages from Valencia, Spain completed her University exams in late June and arrived after the July 4th weekend. She stepped right into the Bear Camp program, eliciting delighted squeals from Cub Scouts as she took a leading role in a campfire skit. She’s been Scouting for two years, working with Cub Scouts and preparing for a teaching career. Her five years working as a youth camp staff member made her a great addition to the Naish team.

2017 National Jamboree LIVE SCOUTING’S ADVENTURE Planning is underway for our council contingent’s trip to the 2017 National Scout Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia. Our Jamboree committee is looking for leaders that would like to lead council troops on this once in a lifetime adventure and Scouts that would like to attend. Some of the highlights of the trip will include stops at the NASA Space Center in Huntsville, Alabama, whitewater rafting, tour of the Gettysburg battle grounds and two days touring Washington DC. Haunted Trails is a Halloween themed event for all Cub Scouts and their families. Because of tremendous popularity, the Venturing Officers’ Association has extended the dates to Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25. Cost is $8 per person for ages 5 and up and $4 per person for ages 4 and below. The fee includes a light meal, shuttle service and patch.

A Scoutmaster and His First Eagle Scout in 1920

By Andy Dubill, Council Historian There is probably no event that is more important to a Scoutmaster than seeing one of his Scouts receive his Eagle Award. Scoutmaster Claude Peterson was even more proud of Clarence Abbott -- his prized Boy Scout -- as it became obvious that Clarence would become the first Eagle Scout in Kansas City, Kansas. It was such a big event that the national council sent his Eagle Scout medal to the local council in time for a special Kansas City, Kansas Chamber of Commerce program on December 29, 1920.

The local newspaper arranged to have an artist sketch Clarence dressed in his complete Scout uniform prior to the ceremony. Clarence was such a news item that the paper ran two articles the week of the ceremony. After a special program for the Scouts of “music, speaking, and motion pictures,” one of the articles relates, “Clarence Abbott was given the decoration -- the Eagle Scout badge -the highest honor awarded for Scout proficiency.”

Over two hundred of his friends, relatives, and Kansas City Boy Scouts attended the special program for the first Eagle Scout in Kansas City, KS and watched with pride as Scoutmaster Peterson pinned the Eagle Scout medal on Clarence’s left pocket. All of his hard work and the support of his fellow Scouts and Scout leaders paid off that evening.

Scoutmaster Peterson was so proud of his first Eagle Scout that he used his picture on his 1920 Christmas card.

New Knights Are No Longer In Need of Training From June 1-4 at Walnut Hills in Carrollton, MO, over 50 Cub Scouts enjoyed the “Knights in Training” themed Day Camp. There was a little bit of rain, but Scouts were still able to have plenty of fun. Activities ranged from making catapults and tunics, to slaying dragons with bows and arrows and BB guns. Our camp was Nationally Accredited for having safe, fun, and educational activities. We would like to give a big thank you to Tammy Cockrum, Susan Dallstream and all of the Junior Staff for putting on such a wonderful experience for our Scouts!

“Knights in Training” Day Camp Recap The heat didn’t stop the fun from happening at Day Camp! This year Blue Elk Day Camp had over 330 Scouts attend camp. There were many entertaining activities like jousting, shield decorating, sling shots, BB guns and lots more. We hope everyone who attended had a great time. We would like to thank the staff members for all their hard work.

Volunteers Needed: Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest The annual Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest will be held September 18-20 on Main Street. In order to maximize our recruitment efforts, we will have a booth set up featuring a Lego Pinewood Derby and portable climbing tower. To put on these events we will need all the help we can get.

We are asking for each pack or troop to pick a time to help run the activities. More importantly, we will need volunteers to become climbing certified to help with the climbing tower. On June 11, Black & Veatch Explorers took their annual summer trip to Denver, Colorado. Their excursion included a tour of Coors Field. Fun fact, the stadium has a purple row of bleachers that mark the mile high elevation at 5,280 ft. Another tour included a trip to the Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility. As Denver expands their Commuter Rail, Explorers got an up close look at the operating center. They also took a tour of the Wings over the Rockies Museum, the Nature and Science Museum and Maker Faire.

Law Enforcement Challenge On June 6, our Law Enforcement posts came together for the annual Law Enforcement Challenge. The Explorers participate in various scenarios and are scored by their skills and how they adapt to each situation.

Scenarios included everything from building searches to agility tests. Special thanks to the Overland Park, Olathe, Spring Hill, and Grain Valley Police Departments for making this a great event. Thank you to those who attended this year’s Scout City BBQ! This annual luncheon took place Friday, June 26 at Barney Allis Plaza. The success of this event will continue to make it possible to provide youth the opportunity to become Scouts by reducing the cost of Scout registration, camp, handbooks, uniforms and other program essentials in the Kansas City Metropolitan area. This year’s lunch was prepared by American Royal Grand Champion Plowboys BBQ. Since 1998, the Scout City BBQ has raised over $315,000 for Scouting programs in the Greater Kansas City area.

The programs run Monday through Friday for at least one hour. The number of hours worked will depend on the number of sites assigned to you. Training will be provided. Pay starts at $10 per hour and can increase upon performance. A background check is required.

Qualifications: Must be over 18 years of age. Must have some experience working with youth and own a working automobile with adequate insurance coverage complying with the State of Missouri or Kansas.

The 2015 Cub Scout Day Camp was a huge success! Thank you to all the staff that gave their time throughout the week and a HUGE thanks to Camp Director Allison Bolt and Program Directors Melissa Moore and Lesley D’Orazio. We averaged about 160 youth every day and you could not have asked for better weather. The activities that took place were lots of fun and educational. Who wouldn’t have fun swimming and going down the 50 foot slip and slide every day!!!

Fall Camporee October 16-18 | H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation Plans are underway for a great Camporee. The current plan is to hold Camporee at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. More information will be available soon.

Our annual Mic-O-Say and OA elevations recognition will be held at the district campfire. Tribesmen, as in years past, are requested to wear Tribal Attire. Songs, skits and general silliness will be the order of the night.

Cub Scout Family Campout October 3-4 | Lowry City Corn Maze The Cub Scout Family Campout is an opportunity for boys and their families to start the Cub Scout year with a fun outdoor event.

This overnight campout will feature games and activities for the entire family. Your family can start to show up any time after 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 3. A hot dog dinner will be provided as well as breakfast on Sunday morning. This year’s campout will be held at the Lowry City Corn Maze, 11000 NE 201 Rd, Lowry City, MO. This a family event and the cost is $10 per person. The fee includes meals and entrance into the corn maze.

Make sure to bring your own camping equipment.

School Night for Scouting August and September are very busy months for recruiting new youth into our outstanding programs.

Please make sure that you are working with your district executive to help you achieve a successful fall recruitment drive. Your help is needed in securing some of the recruitment locations and rooms as well as helping to promote your Scouting unit. On the day of your recruitment, have as many parents attend school in their uniform and eat lunch with their child and help to promote the recruitment event. Attain your school’s roster and try to reach out to as many of the first and second graders as possible and invite them to your recruitment. Boy Talks will be completed in the schools that will allow them as well as the distribution of flyers.

Posters and yard signs will once again be available.

Troops should be conducting open houses as well.

Try getting all of your parents to promote the recruitment night or other recruitment events via their Facebook pages as well. That can reach a lot of people very quickly!

Spirit of Scouting On May 29, the North Star District held an ASK event in Excelsior Springs as part of the Investment in Character campaign. A young Scout was invited to tell his Scouting story. This young man delivered a powerful message…

My name is Riley Dotson. I am a Life Scout from Troop 309 and a Brave in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. I have been involved in the BSA since I was 7 years old, beginning my Scouting career in Mrs. Robin’s Tiger Den. I did it all as a Cub; the family campouts, the barbecues, the nature hikes, Day Camp, everything.

I’m here to talk to you about H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. But, my story begins in another place. On my first night at the Theodore Naish Scout Reservation, there was an orientation. The first words out of my guide’s mouth were about the ever-present raccoons. I think, if I recall correctly, he said something like, “If there is any infinitesimal amount of food lingering anywhere on your body, the raccoons will eat your lips, and you will be in the hospital for months.” This sparked a phobia. I Riley Dotson and family didn’t sleep the rest of the time I was at the camp. The next year, I bought a walking stick and sat in my chair with it as a sort of anti-raccoon sentinel (I never saw any). I pushed Bartle into the back of my mind. I didn’t even want to think of the possibility of 10 whole days in the woods with those things.

My first night at Bartle, I kept my cool. I sang the campfire songs at the top of my lungs, even though I hadn’t yet learned the words. I wolfed down my first ever Bartle dinner, then assumed my sentry position outside my tent just after taps. This time, to my surprise, my flashlight beam came across two glowing yellow eyes. Instead of charging, I burrowed down into my cot and started bawling. It was just my first year, and I was already going to get eaten.

I couldn’t believe it. After a few long moments, I heard the leaves rustling outside. A rustling much, much bigger than a normal raccoon. With tears streaming down my face, I realized that I was about to be devoured by the dreadful, bipedal raccoon king. “You okay in there, Riley?” the Omega-raccoon whispered from the outside of my tent. Slowly, as I crawled out of my sleeping bag, it took the shape of Joe Meehan. Joe Meehan, King of the Raccoons.

I sat up, stammering through the events of that night, and warning him to run away before he could fall victim as well. And you know what? He took guard for me that night (or, at least until I fell asleep.) Over the course of the session, he and my father cured me of my fear. That session, those 10 days, were the most pivotal in my entire Scouting career. Those first 10 days helped me become the person I am today because it unlocked the wonder that is the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation.

I returned the next year. And I came back to the Reservation a third time. And, oh yeah, another. And another. Bartle wasn’t just a summer camp for me. It still isn’t. Bartle is the place of kayaking. Bartle is the place of shotguns. It’s the place of endless trails. It’s the place of early mornings and late nights. It’s the place of nature, and it’s the place of happiness, friendship, and warmth. It’s the place of you-have-KP-in-the-morning and first year homesickness. It’s incredible.

Bartle brings out a certain thing in people that I have yet to witness anywhere else in this world. I feel like I come back home a slightly different person every single session. I grow so close to the people around me, and to the Reservation. It makes me wonder how people ever got by without our beloved Reservation. My closest friends all attended Bartle. It’s changed us. We appreciate the world around us just a little bit more.

We’re new people, better people, because the Reservation is in our hearts. I’d never give up those memories for anything. And I hope to give as many young men the same once-in-a-lifetime experience.

If you managed to take some time to venture out to Camelot (Shawnee Riverfront Park) June 8-12, you would have noticed that many of our Knights-inTraining (Cub Scouts) seemed very young and small this year. This is because over 40 kindergarteners brand-new to Scouting were in attendance! Several packs held successful spring recruitments and brought their new boys out to camp for a great week with no rain-outs!

Day Camp would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication by the staff and walking leaders who shared their time and talent. A special thank-you goes out to “Crazy Dave” Sultz (director), “Sir Dave the Brave” Scharpenburg (program director), Gigi Maddox (program director), and Paula Fix (registrar) for their commitment and service. A fun week was had by all!

Are you Ready for School Night for Scouting?

Here are some things to keep in mind: • Spread the word about your School Night in at least 3 or 4 different ways. People need to see your message a number of times before it sinks in.

• Recruit at your elementary school Ice Cream Social the week before school. Handout your pack calendar/ contact list. If possible register them on the spot.

• Call all families at your elementary school the weekend before the School Night. The district can provide the list. Divide up the list and call with a short invitation message.

• Plan your agenda for School Night.

Provide a short meeting (40 minutes or less), offer a short activity for new Scouts.

Ask parents to fill out the applications and Parent Talent Survey. Send families home with a calendar and contact list in hand.

• Hold a Parent Orientation Meeting within a week of School Night. Expect each family to play a role in running the pack.

• Plan an additional Recruiting Opportunity. Use your September pack meeting or activity. Volunteer to run a program for your elementary school fall carnival and do it in uniform. Not everyone will hear about School Night or be able to attend. Let’s give them another chance.

Trails End Popcorn Sale Please plan to attend the district Popcorn Kickoff on August 11. Learn about this year’s incentive program and the additions to the product lineup. Learn how units in the Pelathe District increased their sales in 2014. The Trails End Popcorn sale is a great way for Scouts to earn money needed for Scouting activities and to support the camping facilities of the council. Cheerful Service: Local Scouter Recognized for His Service to the City In July 2014, the City of Edgerton issued a Boil Water Advisory due to low water pressure. Since Edgerton does not have a certified lab, using the KDHE lab could force Edgerton residents to remain on a boil order up to three more days. DeWayne McAllister, Lab Manager, responded to Edgerton’s call late one evening, running tests, incubating them for 24 hours and providing the results in the wee hours of the morning.

Edgerton avoided a serious inconvenience to their residents because of DeWayne’s willingness to help a neighboring community. For his efforts, DeWayne received the 2014 Vision, Values, Mission Award for his Leadership through Service. DeWayne is an active member of Pack 3387 at DeWayne McAllister the Christ Community Church receives the 2014 Vision, of the Nazarene and Troop 255 Values, Mission Award from the City of Olathe

Remember, this is a great activity to invite potential Cub Scout friends to as well. Boy Scout Troops and Venturing Crews are encouraged to attend and participate in our Camporee activities, designed with our more experienced Scouts in mind. Webelos are also invited to spend an extra night out on Saturday with the Boy Scout Troop of their choice and participate in all the Camporee fun.

Each fall, we take the time to make sure every boy has the opportunity to join Scouting through our fall recruitment campaign. We appreciate all the effort our pack leaders put in to their School Nights for Scouting, which provides an opportunity to join to thousands of local boys and their families. But, we don’t stop there! We encourage all of our packs and Cub Scout families to invite new boys to activities throughout the fall like pack meetings, the Cub Family Campout, and even Haunted Trails.

Thank You to the Trailhead Day Camp Team If you haven’t already, be sure to thank Will England, Day Camp Director, Paul Hemenway, Pack 3153 Pack Home at Trailhead Program Director, Day Camp and the rest of the Day Camp Staff for putting on one of our best Day Camps yet! For our program this year, we had fencing demonstrations, a rock climbing wall, fish- Cub Scouts find new ways to beat the ing, a ropes course heat at Day Camp

and much more.

We even added a program just for Webelos!

As a result, we had our best recorded attendance in Cub Scouts doing Maypole at Trailhead over 3 years with Day Camp nearly all district packs attending, an exceptionally high score during camp inspection that earned us National Camp Accreditation, and no rain days!

Our Day Camp, Will England, Trailhead Day Camp Director, accepting National Camp which serves between 350-400 Cub Accreditation for Trailhead Day Camp Scouts, is run almost entirely by volunteer staff who put in endless hours over the span of eight months out of the year. We also owe a huge thank you to Camp Timberlake for allowing us to use the beautiful campsite another year. Thank you to all volunteers for delivering a great Scouting program!

Get Your Popcorn!

It’s that time of year again! Sign your unit up to sell popcorn at www.hoac-bsa.org/popcorn. You’ll have the opportunity to earn prizes, raise funds for your unit, and help support the council.

Learn more and earn a 2% bonus commission by attending the Seller’s Academy Popcorn Training on Saturday, August 15 or Saturday, August 22. The training will be expo style this year so you can come and go as you please anytime between 9:00 am and noon. This will be a great opportunity for both new and returning Unit Kernals to learn about the popcorn sale and changes for this year.

Trails West Day Camp 2015 More than 200 Cub Scouts attended and enjoyed the 2015 Cub Scout Day Camp “Knights in Training.”

They participated in many fun activities like BB guns, archery, sling-shots, fishing, water rockets, human foosball, leatherwork, woodworking, field games and more. There were also special activities featured at

camp this year including a melon catapult launch, a climbing wall, and the Olathe Fire Department helped with our annual egg drop. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers that made Trails West Day Camp happen!

Bill O’Connor has been the Trails West Day Camp Director for the past ten years. He was recognized for his service on the last day of camp. Bill has helped thousands of Cub Scouts have a safe and fun Scouting experience. He has also helped hundreds of older Scouts develop leadership as they served on the camp staff. Bill is also a Committee Chair, COR, Crew Advisor, past Scoutmaster, and an Eagle Scout. Thanks Bill for your service to Scouting!

Cub Scout Family Campout The Trails West Cub Scout Family Campout will be held on September 12-13 at Camp Naish. This is the first campout for many Cub Scouts. There will be activities for the whole family like archery, rockets, climbing, games and more. The event starts on Saturday afternoon and ends on Sunday morning. The activities run Saturday afternoon and are followed by a fun campfire program. Campers will pack up and leave Sunday morning after a light breakfast.

Camporee The Trails West Camporee will be held on October 9-11 at Camp Naish. This campout is for all Webelos II, Boy Scouts and Venturers. Camporee will feature Scouting skills, contests and special challenges.

This year’s Camporee will start Friday night and go through Sunday morning.

Activities will be all day on Saturday and a campfire will follow that night.

This will be the last official campout for Trails West District!

Cub Scout Day Camp — Knights in Training This year’s Cub Scout Day Camp was filled with fun and adventure as over 115 Cub Scouts from the district enjoyed activities and events the first week of June at the Miami County Fairgrounds in Paola, KS. Cub Scouts participated in activities that

Plan to kickoff the Cub Scouting year at the Cub Scout Family Campout at Forest Park on September 25-26.

This is a great opportunity for all Cub Scout families to have an overnight outing and to get to know more about your plans for the program year and to build fellowship. Plan to arrive early Friday evening, set up camp and enjoy time around the campfire. On Saturday, the program includes a hot breakfast along with some fun and games before packing things up and calling it a day. See you in September.
