#3 - THE HEARTH LOST ITS INCOME

The shift from home-based cottage industries to public workplaces during the Industrial Era stripped the household of its income-generating capacity.

This transition recast the perception of work, privileging waged industrial jobs often occupied by men, while inadvertently marginalizing the now "unpaid" labor in the once economically thriving Domain of Care.

In such homes (pre-Industrial Era), women might tend a smallholding, make food or craft products for sale, make the household’s clothes and perform countless other tasks- along with the care of children-that were every bit as vital to the household as earning money.
