Spinal Manipulation – An Effective Option to Alleviate Low Back Pain

Back pain treatment in Brooklyn can help reduce chronic or acute back pain, and improve physical function, muscle strength, and quality of life. Back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustment is now widely considered to be a safe and effective treatment option for low back pain. Symptoms of low back pain include: Dull, aching pain Tingling or “pins-and-needles” sensations numbness or weakness Burning pain that moves down one leg or to the groin, buttock or upper thigh Muscle spasms and tightness in the low back, pelvis, and hips, pain that worsens after prolonged sitting or standing Difficulty standing up straight, walking, or going from standing to sitting Pain that is worse after waking up and better after moving around Ligament sprains, muscle strains, rupture disks, irritate joints, sports injuries or accidents, arthritis, poor posture, obesity, and psychological stress, bone loss, and certain medical conditions are the key factors responsible for back pain. Study finds Spinal Manipulation can relieve Low Back Pain Available in leading multispecialty healthcare centers in Brooklyn, spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustment is a natural, drugless treatment for back pain. Chiropractors use their hands or a device to apply a controlled force to a joint of the spine. In manual mobilizations, the chiropractor moves the patient’s spine within their range of motion. Manipulation is a passive technique where the chiropractor applies a specifically directed manual impulse or thrust to a joint at or near the end of the passive range of motion.

Spinal manipulation is an effective option for alleviating lower back pain. A study published in April 2017 in the Journal of the American Medical Association offers the latest evidence that spinal manipulation can offer a modestly effective alternative for back pain. Researchers analyzed 15 studies involving more than 1,700 people with acute back pain. For comparing spinal manipulation with traditional care, the patients were divided into groups. Some were given spinal manipulative therapy, while others were given traditional care that included education, physical therapy and medications. The outcome was spinal manipulation led to small but measurable improvements in pain and better overall function compared with traditional care. Patients who had spinal manipulation experienced a decline of 1 point in their pain rating. The researchers point out that this is about the same amount of pain relief as from non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication, such as ibuprofen. In Brooklyn pain management centers, chiropractic care may be provided in conjunction with other modalities such as epidural steroid, trigger point and facet joint injections, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), physical therapy, disc compression, NSAIDs, heat and cold application, Game Ready cold compression therapy, and radiofrequency radio ablation. The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) recommends the following measures to prevent lower back pain:

 Avoid prolonged inactivity or bed rest  Warm up or stretch before exercising or physical activities  Maintain proper posture  Maintain a healthy diet and weight  Avoid wearing high-heeled shoes  Sleep on a mattress of medium firmness to minimize any curve in your spine.

 Do not attempt to lift by bending forward, instead you bend the hips and knees to squat down to your load, keep it close to your body, and straighten your legs to lift.

 Avoid lifting a heavy object above shoulder level  Never twist or turn your body while lifting or holding a heavy object  Stop smoking
