Clinical Endoscopist Training Programme

HEE are proud to have worked with the Joint Advisory Committee on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) to develop a Clinical Endoscopist (CE) Training Programme to support workforce capacity and capability in response to increasing demand for endoscopy services. All academic modules are delivered online with minimal contact days away from trusts. The Upper GI Endoscopy or Lower GI endoscopy (30 week programme) is designed to train appropriate registered healthcare professionals (NMC Adult Nurses and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered) to perform safe diagnostic procedures in either Upper GI Endoscopy or Lower GI endoscopy. The 40-week programme is designed to upskill suitable clinical endoscopists in colonoscopy. With demand in endoscopy continuing to increase, this programme will help trusts to meet endoscopy challenges, support workforce flexibility, and increase trust diagnostic capacity. 314 trainees have completed the programme and 94 are currently training which means that the programme has a total of 408 trainees who have completed or are currently training on the national CE programme.
