Advancing Dental Care (ADC) review

HEE’s Advancing Dental Care (ADC) Review Report was published in September 2021 making recommendations to reform the dental education and training infrastructure towards producing a more skilled multi-professional oral healthcare workforce, which better supports patient and population needs within the NHS. HEE will continue to work with system partners to lead on delivery of these recommendations up to 2025, including: Skills development: • Increase workforce experience of managing complex care, co-morbidities and in changing care models and pathways. • Better use of the skill mix in dental workforce and multi-disciplinary team working. • Improving post-registration opportunities to develop knowledge, skills, capabilities and competence, including leadership, management and research. Widening access and participation: • More flexible entry routes into training for dental professions, to widen access and participation. • The development of apprenticeships to promote the concept of a local dental workforce approach. • Review distribution of training posts to improve opportunities in areas currently underserved by NHS dentistry. Flexible working: • Flexible models of Dental Training to support workforce retention and career progression. • Digital and blended learning opportunities to deliver dental education and training. • Options for less than full time training and career breaks, supporting trainee wellbeing. www.hee.nhs.uk
