At Gucci, models with messy, pretty waves toughed it out with heavily kohled eyes. At Donna Karan hair was teased and tied in low ponys, with pale skin and the season’s must-have berry lips, and we saw rough French pleats and berry lips at Peter Som.

STEP ONE
The key to this look is preparation – it works better the day after the hair has been washed, or if you have fine hair add a little dry shampoo at the roots for added body shine at the ends.
STEP TWO
Apply L’Oréal Tecni.art Pli from the roots to ends, for vital hold and curl definition. Make a nice, clean parting using a pin tale-comb, just off centre. Then separate the hair in half from the crown to the ears.
STEP THREE
Using a Mason Pearson brush, give the hair a good brush through at the back. Using an elastic hair-band (Goody’s Stay Put, £2.49, Boots), start to brush the hair into a light loose ponytail. Once the hair is in the pony, using a Babyliss Pro Conical Wand, £25.50, tong Goody’s Stay Put the pony tail, spray with hair-bands £2.49 Tecni.art Air Fix, £8.25, and let the hair cool down.
STEP FOUR
Turn your attention to the pieces to the side of the ponytail, twist each side away from the face and place around the ponytail. Pin in with strong French pins. 10
PRO TIP: To get pins to stay put, weave the pins into the hair in a sewing motion then twist the ends of the pin together.
STEP FIVE Give the ponytail a light shake and split the hair into two. Tuck the first section under the base of the ponytail and pin it in. Then on the other section, split into smaller sections and pin into L’Oréal Tecni.art Air Fix both sides. Curly hair looks darker than straight hair because its surface isn’t as flat to reflect light, so a scattering of well-placed highlights can make all the difference.

Make sure you go to a stylist who understands the unique nature of curly hair, as it can’t be cut in the same way as straight hair. Soft long layers really work on curly hair to give shape and bounce, but make sure you avoid blunt cuts. I have really damaged hair, mainly from using straighteners every day on my dry highlighted hair. It’s weak and breaks really easily, plus it has lost its shine. My hair gets greasy really quickly and I have to wash it every day. Sometimes this just isn’t practical – what can I do? Anna, Hove Unfortunately sometimes when we get into our cycle of washing our hair every day our scalp goes into overdrive to replace the lost moisture and produces lots of sebum, which again makes hair feel greasy. You might also be using products that are too heavy for your hair and leave it feeling limp and oily. I would recommend a Kérastase Biotic in-salon scalp treatment. Naturally I am a mousy brown colour and have blonde highlights, which are very pale. I want to look a bit more natural and would love to have Kate Moss’ colour – what do I ask for? Kate goes for a more honey blonde look that has an oh-so-pretty, unfussy allure. To start you will need a full head of highlights, but then in between have a top panel where your parting is and a couple at the back of the hairline, to let your hair recover and reduce damage. Make sure you ask for a couple of tones and go one shade darker and one shade lighter than your natural colour to create definition and a more textured look. Honey blonde does have a tendency to get brassy, so ask your colourist for a quick wash (this is a toner to get rid of any brassiness) with your blow-dry in between colour appointments – a quick maintenance trick to keep your colour gorgeous! People from around the globe joined hearts, heads and hands and put their egos to one side to make way for passion for creativity and sharing of ideas to take centre stage. The results? An integral part of this new global styling community is Headmasters’ very own Darren Hau. Chosen to represent the innovation and passion of the Headmasters team, Darren was taken to the birthplace of the H3 project, and the epicentre of innovation at L’Oréal Professionnel’s glamorous Headquarters on Rue Royale in Paris. We caught up with Darren on his return from Paris and here’s what he had to say about his H3 experience:

The experience in Paris has really inspired me for the coming year. H3 brings together the best creative minds from around the globe, and this really gave me a fresh perspective on cutting and styling. There were no egos on show, just a collection of passionate hairdressers working to share their knowledge and pass on their ideas. From a salon perspective H3 places the same importance on customer service as we do at Headmasters. A haircut isn’t just a haircut! It’s about getting clients in touch with their hair, analysing their personality, understanding their needs and creating the perfect cut just for them. H3 is about connecting with the client, sharing your passion with them, and using your product knowledge to show clients how they can express their own styling creativity at home.
