CONSENT CALENDAR January 2023

BLUFFTON REGIONAL BUSINESS COUNCIL

Committee meetings will resume in February after a two-month hiatus. Mary Lee Carns will assume the role of Vice Chair for the 2023 Bluffton Regional Business Council and Tom Henz, VP, Public Policy & Small Business will oversee the committee. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 22nd at a location TBD.

NOVEMBER

NEW MEMBERS – Fourteen members applied for membership in the chamber during the month of November resulting in new revenue of $10,560.00.

DROPPED MEMBERS - Fifteen members were dropped from membership during the month of November resulting in lost revenue of $6,741.00.

DECEMBER

NEW MEMBERS – Five members applied for membership in the chamber during the month of December resulting in new revenue of $4,440.00.

DROPPED MEMBERS - Six members were dropped from membership during the month of December resulting in lost revenue of $2,238.00.

A group of Leadership Alumni has formed to begin the process of moving the Alumni Association back under the guidance and direction of the Chamber. Tom Dunn, Class of 2014, is leading this charge. The group hopes to host quarterly events for networking and professional development.

PUBLIC POLICY

Ahmad Ward has assumed the duties of Vice Chair, Public Policy. Tom Henz, VP, Public Policy & Small Business will oversee the committee. After a two-month hiatus, the Public Policy committee will meet on Friday, February 3th at 8:30 a.m. at the chamber. We invite all committee members and anyone interested to attend the meeting and share ideas regarding future projects and activities for Public Policy. All directors are invited to attend the meeting

VISITOR & CONVENTION BUREAU

Meetings and Groups:

January 17, 2023:

We hosted a virtual meeting with select service hotel sales leaders to receive feedback on 2022 and discussed current trends and strategies for 2023. The group also shared thoughts on opportunities that lie ahead

• Bluffton hotels report increase in business transient with group business short term and brisk

• Hilton Head Island hosting construction crews, airline crews and corporate business travelers

• The decrease in leisure travel is typical this time of year

January 18, 2023:

We hosted a meeting with the six full-service hotel’s Directors of Sales & Marketing to review 2022 performances, ADRs, occupancies, forecasts and strategies for 2023. The group provided feedback on Hilton Head as a destination in general for corporate groups, associations and conferences for the off season.

• While occupancy was down by 2.2% for the year 2022, compared to 2021.

• Hotel average daily rate was up by $7.00 in 2022, resulting in an overall increase in revenue per available room by $1.00

• For 2023 and 2024 hotels are forecasting an increase in group and conference business

• All hotels are either currently updating, renovating inventory, or have plans to start by end of 2023

January 24-26, 2023

We will be attending IPEC (Independent Planner Educational Conference). It’s a program for independent meeting planners providing the perfect mix of education, networking and meetings with suppliers, with options for hosted and non-hosted buyers. Those booking new business will meet with myriad suppliers who are eager to host the buyers’ future events. Sessions and guided discussions will focus on current topics of importance.

One-on-one appointments between VCB and buyers are scheduled on behalf of Hilton Head Island Educational workshops were held encouraging interaction between suppliers and buyers

SCSAE was formed in 1963 for chief executive officers and their professional staff: meeting planners, association staff members, and business partners to help network, build relationships within the industry, and give opportunities for educational development. SCSAE proudly has 250 members that work in the trade, professional, and non-profit association industry.

Hiton Head Island VCB and various hotels will all have their own tradeshow tables on the showroom floor. Hotels not in attendance will be represented by VCB.

After a two-month hiatus, the BEP committee will meet on Tuesday, February 7th at 8:30 a.m. at the chamber. We invite all committee members and anyone interested to attend the meeting and share ideas regarding future projects and activities for BEP. All directors are invited to attend the meeting.
