March 26, 2016 Welcome to the 72nd Annual National Churches of Christ Lectureship.

It is a tremendous privilege, for the faithful congregations in the Memphis Metropolitan and North Mississippi area, to facilitate this epic event under the majestic theme “Preparation for the Next Generation (Old and New, Tried and True). The substantive delivery of this event is the culmination of months of collaborative prayer, planning, meditation and inspiration. The host congregations 1) SouthEastSide (The Palatial Facilities of Emerald City) and 2) Norris Road (The Mecca in Memphis), have been looking with anticipatory splendor to your arrival. We are committed to provide a positive customer centric experience to each attendee of this year’s lectureship.

The Thematic Emphasis of “Preparation for the Next Generation” highlights the relationship of Truth as “Old and New, Tried and True”. God’s Plan of Salvation/Scheme of Redemption was first revealed to the Prophets, beginning with Moses, in the Old Testament context (Law, Prophets and Psalms). New Testament “Gospel of Jesus Christ” truth is a fulfillment of “Tried and True” revelatory truth written in the “Law, Prophets and Psalms.” (Acts 22:14-15; 26:22-23; 28:23 – KJV).

The Mission Criticality of “Preparing the Next Generation” to perpetuate/effectuate the will of our Father in the Kingdom of God/Church of Christ, demands that we optimize our efforts to maintain the Veracity of the Word and Will of God as found written and included in the canonicity of the Scriptures/Holy Word. This Medieval Latin term veracity carries the connotation of 1) dedication and commitment to truthfulness 2) conformity to correctness/accuracy of truth and 3) the faithful observance thereof. (Isaiah 8:20; Proverbs 30:5-6).

We want to extol the virtues of 1) “Predecessor Generations” exhibiting a deep seated affinity, love, care, compassion and concern for forthcoming generations and 2) “Successor Generations” manifesting a deep seated respect, adoration and appreciation for “Predecessor Generations” by heeding/listening to wise/ sage counsel as there is wisdom and safety in a multitude of counsellors (Proverbs 11:14; 15:22; 24:6).

Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your souls prosper [3 John 1:2] Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever – Amen. [1 Timothy 1:17] Welcome to Memphis!

March 26, 2016 Welcome to the Memphis, the a) twenty-third (23rd) largest city in our nation b) the largest city located both 1) in the state of Tennessee 2) on the Mississippi River and c) the third (3rd) largest in the greater Southeastern sector of in the United States; the host city of the 72nd Annual National Lectureship of Churches of Christ among African Americans.

The distinctiveness of Memphis is multifarious: •

The Memphis Area is home to 2 of the oldest African American congregations of Churches of Christ 1) East Haven (Old Capleville) 146 years and 2) Thyatira (Tate County MS) 150 years

•

The Memphis Medical Center, one of the largest in the nation, is located in the city and serves as home for the graduate school for the University of Tennessee’s Center for Health Sciences.

•

Memphis is home/headquarters for FedEx, the largest cargo operation entity in the world.

•

The FedEx Forum, completed in 2004, is home to the Memphis Grizzlies NBA (National Basketball Association) team and the University of Memphis’s basketball team.

•

Memphis is also the site of the National Civil Rights Museum. It was established at the Lorraine Motel, the museum (the first of its kind in the nation) chronicles the civil rights movement from the colonial period to the present.

•

Memphis is known nationally and globally for its Barbeque as is considered by many to be the BBQ capital of the world.

The 72nd Annual National Lectureship of Churches of Christ is converging on this city because Christians here are committed to and interested in the evangelization of the world, commanded by the resurrected, ruling and reigning, King of kings and Lords of lords, the promulgation of the “glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ”; the edification of “saints” in the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ and the stability of the disciples of Christ, desirous of making their “calling and election sure”.

General Program

The 72nd Annual National Lectureship Thematic Emphasis Descriptions The 72nd Annual National Lectureship of Churches of Christ, under the majestic Theme “Preparation for the Next Generation (Old and New, Tried and True), has been engineered to extol the virtues and requirements germane to effectuating and perpetuating the will of our Father in the Kingdom of God/Church of Christ, both now and in forthcoming generations. The optimization of our ongoing efforts must include 1) maintaining the Veracity of the Word and Will of God and 2) utilizing functionally effective/efficient methodologies to positively meet needs in the time that we live and times that are to come. Please find below a description of the structural “Thematic Emphasis” components that serve as the foundational stones for this year’s Lectureship: The Paradise Project: The emphasis here is that God has always been primarily concerned about optimizing both the a) spiritual and b) physical well-being of mankind from the beginning/creation of human existence. The paradisiacal environment/genre/motif included a) eternal life on earth/no death b) the absence of hard labor c) minimal to no pain in child birth d) joint dominion by man and woman e) automated vegetation misty nurturement/the absence of rain and “Access to Everything Excluding One Thing”. Mankind’s deviation from Divine Simplicity via succumbing to Satanic Serpentine Duplicity 1) ended the Paradise Project and 2) necessitated God’s Scheme to Redeem/Plan to Save Man. The Scheme to Redeem/Plan to Save Man: This thematic emphasis sector addresses how God did for us/mankind, what we could not do for ourselves. The sequential/chronological Redemptive Plan included blessing and saving the whole world through one man, the seed of Abraham. The a) original Genesis 3 prophecy of the seed of the woman vs. Satan b) the response to the Call and Promise by Faithful Father Abraham and c) God’s plan of salvation through Abraham’s Promised Seed line form the foundational components of The Law, The Prophets, The Psalms, Salvation through Christ and entry into the Kingdom/The Church of Christ.

The Mission Criticality of Mentorship: The thematic emphasis here addresses the socio-dynamics and functional requirements that are essential to functionally effective Mentorship. There are multiple biblical/scriptural examples of Mentor/Mentee relationship variables, that when properly studied, heeded and implemented, can enhance our ability to effectuate God’s will now and into the future.

Preparation for the Next Generation (Old and New, Tried and True): This thematic emphasis sector addresses the rudimentary principle that “there is no new truth”. God has done for us what we cannot do for ourselves by 1) originally intending what was and is optimally best for us 2) preparing for the Next and All Generations by a) establishing His Salvation Plan in the Old Covenant and b) completing it in the New Covenant.

2016 Defender of the Faith Award

Dr. R.C. Wells, International Evangelist, Elder and Minister Emeritus of the Church of Christ in Harlem, New York City, considers himself supremely and sincerely blessed by God to have been granted the privilege of experiencing and fulfilling his lifelong dreams: first, of being an Evangelist of Jesus, the Christ: a Gospel preacher; and second, of traveling around the world.

(Both have been granted through God permitting Dr. Wells to become a Gospel preacher).

Dr. R. C. Wells began his ministerial preaching career as an adolescent at the age of ten at his home town congregation, the Eighth Street church of Christ, in Waco, Texas. In his ninth year of school, he was privileged to become a student at the Nashville Christian Institute in Nashville, Tennessee under the unique and special tutelage of the renowned Dr. Marshall Keeble, then President of the unprecedented African American Christian School. Dr. R.C. Wells’ advanced educational dossier consists of many schools of matriculation, in religion and theology.

He holds six advanced academic degrees: AA; BRE; BTH; MRE; MTH and THD from the following schools: * Southwestern Christian College * Midwestern Theological Seminary * Temple Theological Seminary

In addition to these, he holds three honorary DD degrees.

Dr. R. C. Wells is the founder, President and CEO of the Christian Bible Institute in New York City. Dr. Wells has successfully engaged in public religious debates opponents of the Gospel of Christ with: the Jesus Only, Seventh Day Adventist’s, Pentecostal, Black Nationalist, “Faith only” and “One Cup” Movements.

He has traveled twice around the world, preaching in 43 states of the United States of; eighteen nations of the world and on five continents.

Dr. R. C. Wells has a continuing religious literature ministry. As a tenured author, he has written multiple tracts, various types of classroom materials and is the author of eight books, the majority of which are still in print. Dr. R. C. Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson, the Father of Negro History Week (Black History Month), was absolutely correct when he stated: “To know the possibilities of a race an appraisal of its past is necessary.� It is for this reason we have chosen to share with others the rich history behind the Annual National Lectureship held among African American churches of Christ. For one to appreciate the value of where we are now, they must of necessity understand from whence we have come. Although many have passed from this life since its inception in the year 1945, the Annual National Lectureship continues to serve as a vital link for brotherhood fellowship among ministers of the gospel and members of the visible kingdom of Christ across the entire nation.
