MESSAGE FROM THE ASSOCIATE VICE CHANCELLOR

As one of the top 10 public universities in the country, UC San Diego continues to attract students from across the nation and all over the world. Once on campus, students embark on a phenomenal, lifechanging journey, experiencing an academic career that is sure to be transformative.

For many of our students, campus becomes their home away from home. It is critical to Housing, Dining and Hospitality that we provide well-rounded support for students living and learning in our residential communities on campus. Concurrently, we must be deliberate in our future planning efforts as we expand our student housing inventory, working toward the goal of housing 65% of all students by 2035, in line with the university’s Long-Range Development Plan.

Given this impetus, we initiated the strategic planning process. It included determining an engagement strategy; conducting a current state assessment; engaging students and staff in various sessions and methods; defining the mission of HDH; developing a five-year vision; crafting organizational core values; establishing strategic goals and impactful initiatives; and developing a comprehensive strategic plan for the future of HDH. More than 3,000 ideas, suggestions and comments were gathered and analyzed, and over 40 stakeholder interviews were held as part of the process.

Our core values, mission and vision statements are intertwined to form the foundation of our strategic plan - the roadmap to the exciting future of HDH.

Sincerely,
