Teachers’ Day 2019 showed how our teachers are like Pokémon trainers preparing us for our battles. Though we may cause troubles at times, they are still patient with us. It was a day Villed with fun and laughter as we celebrated the efforts by our teachers and showed gratitude for guiding us through this period of our lives.patient

ERS’ DAY

EPT

MID AUTUMN FESTIVAL SEPT The theme for MAF is “溯”, which translates to tracing back one’s roots and history. As we stand on the cusp of a new era, it is important that we must not forget the past. After all, only with hindsight can we see with clarity, and only in retrospect can we navigate through the years to come. MAF was a night where those who have graduated return home, and students and teachers congregate and celebrate.

ARTWORKS BY: HWA CHONG ART CLUB

The Hwa Chong Art Club comprises a group of students that are very passionate about art. We hope that more people would recognise art as a stress-relief mechanism or just another enjoyable past time!

Thanks

Zoe Kwok (19S62)

The following section features artworks by members of the Art Club that are inspired by the struggles students face in school and the amazing school culture of Hwa Chong that we've all come to love. Through this series of works, we hope that everyone can recognise the strength of art in converting any sort of emotion into a unique type of beauty for others to admire. - Lui Shi Ying, President of Art Club

8 stages of growth

Let’s express thanks to all the people who have, some way or another, made us who we are today.

Why?

Ng Hui Shi (19S6N)

Zoe Kwok (19S62)

This work focuses on the main emotions that run through students in school, be it despair , or stress, it will be able to be overcome eventually to get to the stage of happiness and self satisfaction.

A student’s everyday frustrations grow too much for him/her to bear and spiral into chaos.

“Feeling stressed in JC? Art is just another form of expression! Lui Shi Ying, President of Art Club Pressure

Lui Shi Ying (19S6B)

I drew this piece based on the most pressing problems that students are facing in school. Through this drawing, I addressed two of such problems, namely: the lack of time to complete our tutorials and high expectations from parents and teachers. When I face such problems, I will turn to art to disconnect myself from the real-world -hope you have a stress coping mechanism of your own too!

Discussion

Quietness

Proximity to Canteen

1. Canteen/College CafĂŠ The place that greets you every morning when you stroll into school or when your stomach grumbles. An ideal quiet spot when students have left school and canteen stalls have closed for the day. Bring some tissues, however, to clear up the little scraps of food.

7/10

10/10

6/10 2. Class Benches

The bell that signals the end of the day chimes. The left and right wings are left only with nondescript brown furniture. This is a quaint spot for you to revise or Vlip a few pages of your tutorial. Beware of the afternoon fogging! 15
