Dear Neighbors,
Summer is right around the corner, and my three girls are already counting down the days. But as a mom, I know the feeling so many parents share this time of year — how do you fill the summer with safe, enriching fun without breaking the bank? That’s why I’m so proud that Precinct 4 is offering completely free summer programming for kids, from STEAM For Kids camps and drone piloting classes to field trips exploring our beautiful natural spaces.
Of course, keeping our kids safe and our communities strong is a year-round effort. In this edition, you’ll read about how we’re building safer streets and crosswalks near our schools, preparing our flood infrastructure before the next big storm, expanding crisis response, delivering a transformative new development that will bring parks, jobs, and services, and connecting residents to good-paying careers.
From summer camps to safer streets to stronger infrastructure, we’re building a Precinct 4 where every family has what they need to thrive.
Always forward,
Commissioner Lesley Briones
IN YOUR COMMUNITY
Safer Streets for Students
Every child in Harris County deserves a safe path to school, yet too many still walk along dangerous crossings and streets with no sidewalks. Commissioner Briones is working to change that. Through her Crosswalks 4 Precinct 4 initiative, Commissioner Briones’ team has refreshed 119 crosswalks serving over 27,000 students, with four new technology-enhanced pedestrian crossings installed in partnership with the City of Houston.

Fun, Educational Summer Activities for Kids
Summer is almost here, and Commissioner Briones is bringing back Precinct 4’s free summer programming for kids ages 5–13. This year’s lineup includes day camps, hands-on programs, drone piloting, rocketry, 3D printing, and field trips to local nature sites. All programs give kids a safe environment to learn, grow, and make lasting friendships. Spots fill up fast. Visit https://hcp4.info/26steammail to sign up.
TOWN HALL
Commissioner Briones is investing aggressively in flood protection. She recently championed a $25 million maintenance project at Addicks Reservoir to repair eight miles of channels, remove sediment left from Hurricane Harvey, and strengthen our region’s ability to move stormwater. That work is now underway, with a similar $10 million project at Barker Reservoir expected to begin soon. Together both projects will help protect over 112,000 people.
Game Changer: The Toro District
Commissioner Briones and Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey recently delivered a major win for Harris County residents with the Toro DistrictTM, a community-first development anchored by the Houston Texans’ new headquarters and training facility. The partnership brings 17,000 jobs, a new community services center, four public parks, and critical road, bridge, and drainage improvements. The project will also support local business and create new internships for students at Cy-Fair ISD, Waller ISD, and Lone Star College. Commissioner Briones is demonstrating what’s possible when local government puts people first.
Keeping Harris County safe means ensuring every 911 call gets the right response.
Commissioner Briones fought to expand the Holistic Assistance Response Team (HART) to all unincorporated parts of Harris County last August. Since the expansion, HART’s trained crisis professionals have responded to more than 25,000 calls, connecting residents experiencing mental health crises, homelessness, and other non-violent situations to services like housing, mental health care, and employment support. Every call they take frees up law enforcement to focus on violent crime.
Harris County Commissioners Court recently voted to prioritize continued funding for Apprenticeship Advantage — a free, nationally recognized initiative that has connected over 1,600 residents to good-paying careers in trades like electrical, plumbing, sheet metal, and ironwork. Commissioner Briones’ commitment to Apprenticeship Advantage is just one of many ways she is working to make the American Dream an American reality for every resident in Precinct 4.
