To utilise its comparative advantage, the state is planning Special Purpose Aviation Resource Cluster SEZs (SPARCS) to boost investments in the sector, expected to create

100,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities for highly skilled resources. The state has also earmarked 1,214 ha land in Perambalur region for setting up an integrated Aerospace Park with an estimated investment of USD 830 mn. PHARMACEUTICAL AND BIOTECHNOLOGY Tamil Nadu accounts for 10% of the total pharmaceutical production of the country and is the fifth largest producer of pharmaceutical products in India. The state has existing and upcoming SEZs and dedicated bio-pharmaceutical parks that offer research labs, advanced medical equipments and genetic engineering as some of the facilities. TEXTILE AND GARMENTS Tamil Nadu ranks first in apparel production and second in textile production in India. It houses India’s largest spinning industry, accounting for almost 40% of the total installed capacity of the country. Textile and apparel sector together provide employment to 35% of the state’s population. The state has around 6 upcoming textile parks and 2 upcoming apparel parks. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Tamil Nadu is the fourth largest software exporter from India. IT exports from the state account for more than 10% of the country’s total IT exports. The state has the largest telecom bandwidth and highest tele-density in India with 14.8 tbps. Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, has about 1780 IT units and employs more than 400,000 professionals. FOOD PROCESSING

Tamil Nadu is a leading producer of variety of horticulture crops such as banana, grapes, tea and poultry products. The state has diverse soil types and 7 agro-climatic zones that provide ample opportunity to grow a variety of horticulture crops. Seafood and spices form a major part of agricultural exports from Tamil Nadu. RENEWABLE ENERGY Tamil Nadu has an advantageous geographical position that offers it a potential of 500 MW of biomass power and a solar incidence of 5.5 - 6 kWh/sq m/day. The state has highest renewable energy capacity in India and ranks 10th globally in installed capacity of wind power generation units.

The Government of Tamil Nadu planted 7 million trees across the state to contribute to a cleaner and greener Tamil Nadu.

Amma Marunthagam (Pharmacies) - In June 2016, then Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalithaa launched an initiative called the Amma Marunthagam. The AIADMK government rolled out over a hundred pharmacies in Chennai and other districts such as Cuddalore, Erode, Kancheepuram, Madurai, Salem, Sivagangai, and Virudhunagar where medicines are sold at a discount of about 15 percent over market price.

On the 70th birth anniversary of Amma, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Amma Two Wheeler Scheme. This scheme will be beneficial for women across Tamil Nadu.

Amma Unavagam (Canteens) Amma Unavagam or Amma Canteens were launched in Chennai as a chain of highly subsidized government run restaurants or canteens which provide quality food at very cheap rates. The Amma Unavagam comes as a blessing to the city’s teeming rate population of laborers and lower income group families.
