The answer to the question of whom the state is working for, in whose interests it is acting, and ultimately to whom the state belongs, is of key importance. State power can be a problem when the state is controlled by the corporatist economy – then it easily becomes ‘their state’. That is exactly what must be prevented. Democracy can only work so long as we can rely on our elected representatives to take our concerns seriously, laws are drafted in accordance with our wishes, and governments act as they should.
