The current contextual problem of flood vulnerabilities imposed a significant threat towards a safe built environment, especially in the urban area that is prone to flooding. In Malaysia, the flood has been the most severe event of natural disaster that deals with a significant loss in the resource that could restrict economic and social growth of the nation. this paper seeks to identify the resilient factors in the design-based intervention that is based on concept and principles, contextual application, design features criteria, and policy/initiatives enforcement. The study identifies design interventions that can combat or adapt flood vulnerabilities in a humanistic and sustainable approach. As such, the study focuses on comparing and appraising existing or proposed waterfront development that adapts the flood vulnerabilities as an innovative design solution for the ultimate goal of providing a safe built environment that is prone to flood disaster.
