WeCome!read in Genesis these words about Abraham: "I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing" (Genesis 12:2).
One of my colleagues neatly summarized Abraham's as "blessed to be a Formsblessing."oftheword "bless" occur over four hundred times in the Bible, and we use it most often in our prayers of intercession for ourselves and others (although as cold and flu season approaches, a casual "God bless you" also is heard). The blessing Abraham receives builds up Abraham and offers a further promise that his descendants will rival the stars in the sky and sand on the world's beaches. The blessings God extends to us also become blessings to others as Christians become instruments of God's grace and peace for others. To receive a blessing and then selfishly cling to it contradicts the wisdom that "a generous person will be enriched, and one who gives water will get water" (Proverbs (Continued11:25). on the following page)
We seek to be a church that one in our worship to God, one in community with each other, and one in service so that the world may believe in the God we love (John 17:21).
Because we are the body of Christ, the DNA of the whole body is found in each group and person. So I encourage you to find a place to worship our God, belong in a community, and serve the world by bringing healing to a broken, bruised, and battered world.
Blessed to be a blessing ... let's boldly live into these words in the coming months. Fayetteville, and Cumberland County need the blessing God offers, and thank you for the ways you are already a blessing to our church and
Learning to allow our lives and actions to be a blessing to others will be a recurring theme in our walk together. Remember: We seek to live and love according to the royal law "to love our neighbor as ourselves" (James 2:8). We seek the presence of Christ in each person because "Christ is all [we need], Christ is all [we meet]" (Colossians 3:11). We seek "the prosperity of the city" in which God calls us to live, trusting that in "its prosperity we will find our prosperity" (Jeremiah 29:7).
LetServeBelongWorshipthisbe our watchwords this Fall as we launch our stewardship campaign, join in Wednesday Evening Fellowship, and carry on God's mission through Haymount UMC. I especially invite your presence as I lead of study of James Bryan Smith's The Good and Beautiful God: Falling in Love with God Jesus Knows on Wednesday evenings. Registration information is provided elsewhere in this newsletter and online. Join us as we apprentice ourselves to Jesus as he teaches us how to worship, belong, and serve.

Vision: Haymount United Methodist Church exists to make disciples by bringing hope and healing to today’s families
From Dorothy Funkhouser Dearest Haymount Church Family,
In January 1998 my family and I began our journeys with you. In these years you have showered us with love and unceasing grace and mercy, and provided paths for spiritual growth and discovery. I knew the day I came to interview for the position of director of Christian education that God ordained me to move into full time ministry with you, and I know as strongly today that God is ordaining Jen Rabon to grow with you, and allowing me to continue my calling to serve him and his beloved children. From the depths of my heart I thank you for shaping me, teaching me, supporting me, and loving me and my family. I know, too, that God smiles on this beautiful church family, for you are faithful and obedient, loving, just, and merciful. Shalom, dear, dear friends, sisters, and brothers.
FAREWELLS3
Dear friends, It is with a heavy heart and a thankful heart that I announce my resignation from being your Director of Contemporary Music & Worship Arts. Constance and I have decided to move on to the next chapter of our lives. After deep and fervent prayer, God has called us to move to Peoria, Illinois. There I will begin working in ministry at First United Methodist Church of Peoria as their Director of Traditional Music. In my three years at Haymount, I’ve been fortunate enough to feel the genuine love of some wonderful people. From those who helped us move into our first home here, who were complete strangers at the time, to those who recently gave us gifts so graciously and lovingly for the newest addition to our family, Constance and I feel your love and are incredibly grateful. on the following page)

FAREWELLS
In my time here, we have accomplished so much and I wish to give all the glory to God. We survived COVID! Since returning from COVID to in-person worship, we have increased volunteerism in our contemporary service and our average daily attendance by 100%. In the summer of 2021, we had the addition of our Summer Jazz Vespers, expanding our outreach in the community and increasing our quality of music. In July of 2021, we saw the complete restoration and addition of our sound and video equipment for the contemporary service in the New Life Center. This has allowed us to reach a plethora of new people and our shut-in members, as well as increasing the quality of our sound and video streaming. Additionally, this has brought outside organizations to rent our New Life Center for events. In December of 2021, the contemporary service was able to provide its first Lessons & Carols service, giving its world premiere of original music accompanied by orchestra and choir. As a collaborative effort, former organist Monica Sparzak and I were able to launch the inaugural Argo-Aycock concert series, bringing world-class musicians into our sanctuaries to provide outreach to the community in the form of free concerts. These concerts included the Halloween Organ Spooktacular, the Moravian Love Feast, the HUMC Mardis Gras Carnival, and the Methodist Chorale. These efforts are some of the highlights of my ministry here and I give all of the glory to God for giving me the opportunity to have done these at Haymount UMC. My last Sunday worshiping with you will be September 18. Thank you for the memories and opportunities you have given me to grow in my music and in my faith. Constance, our daughter Luna Belle, and I wish you well and pray for the prosperity of Haymount United Methodist Church. Yours in Christ, Andrew M. Sánchez
Lynda!

BUSINESSCHURCH
There are many reasons to give to the church. 1. You feel gratitude to God. 2. You see giving as part of your spiritual relationship with God. 3. You want others to know about Jesus Christ. 4. You feel privileged to serve. 5. You feel that God asks for an appropriate percentage of your income. 6. You like to help people through the church and missions. 7. Haymount UMC has had an impact on your life. What is an Estimate of Giving and why is it important?

Why should I give to Haymount UMC?
During the Stewardship campaign, members are asked to submit their Estimate of Giving card for the following year. Writing down your financial commitment in advance is a way of putting God first in your financial life, and it helps members budget and plan for their giving. It also helps the church prepare an accurate budget for missions, facilities, and staffing. It would be very difficult for individuals to plan their finances without knowing what revenue they have coming in and what expense they incur. The church, like any individual or business, has expenses and commitments for which they need to plan. What happens if I am not able to fulfill my Estimate of Giving? We certainly understand if unforeseen circumstances occur that change your financial situation. If you are unable to fulfill your Estimate of Giving, just call or email the finance director’s office at the church, and it will be adjusted. (Continued on the following page)
We have prepared the following questions and answers regarding stewardship and church finances. Please let us know if you have other questions. Our goal is for Haymount UMC to be a pledging church, using the gifts we receive from God for His glory.

How should I decide how much to give?
• Put your check or cash in the collection plate each week.
• Drop off checks at the church office during the work week.
The amount you give is between you and God. The Bible teaches that people who take seriously the stewardship of all that God gives them have these characteristics: They give through the church (Malachi 3:10), liberally (Luke 6:38), sacrificially (2 Corinthians 8:1-4), cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:7), regularly and in proportion to their income (1 Corinthians 16:2). When people give the first 10% of their income to the church where they worship, this is called a tithe. Thank you for your consideration and support of Haymount United Methodist Church! If you have other questions about giving or church finances, please contact the church office at (910) 484-0181 or email: Rev. Allen Bingham, Senior Minister, allenbingham@haymountumc.com
• Send a check by mail to the following address: Haymount UMC, Attn: Finance Director, 1700 Fort Bragg Road, Fayetteville, NC 28303
• Donate online by credit or debit card. Just click on the giving tab at HaymountUMC.com.
Sandy Ammons, Stewardship Committee Chair – sandyammons14@gmail.com
• Text your gift by texting GIVE@HUMC and the dollar amount you want to give to 73256. For example, to give $50 by text, you would text “GIVE2HUMC $50” to 73256.

United Women in Faith - Calling All Women!
Stephen Ministry is a special ministry. It takes training to use one’s natural gifts in a truly appropriate manner. Those of us who have gone through the training feel that is has enhanced our ability to genuinely support other people with the help of Jesus. We say that we are the Caregivers, but Jesus is the Curegiver. He works through us.
If you have anything in that category, now is the time to donate it. Planning to replace your tree? Please include a note to indicate if the lights work. It would help us out. What a busy summer we’ve had for the youth group! Three weekly meetings, lots of local mission outreach, a mission trip to Tennessee, helping with VBS, going to day camp at Rockfish, heading to the beach for a day, a special goodbye to Dorothy for her 25 years at Haymount, and so much more filled these three short months. We are building into the idea that Allen preached about that second Sunday of August: being one in worship, community, and mission. As we look toward September and the school year, we need to ask ourselves, “How can we do this bigger and better?” Worshipping more together, team-building, and mission are going to be our big focus for the year. With an official kick-off on September 11, we are starting out strong! Our goal is to get to know each other (first-time visitors, longtime members, and everything in between) and be in conversation about what the youth want out of the coming school year. On September 18th, we will have our first mission opportunity of the school year. The current (non-rainy day) plan is to go to Mazarick Park and do some park beautification. More about the upcoming school year and the youth activities can be found in this calendar:

The Youth and Children's Ministry had an amazing week out at Camp Rockfish! We had fun doing obstacle courses, cooling off in the lake, playing in the pool, climbing the climbing tower, making ice cream, and fel lowshipping together! We learned about some of the miracles that Jesus performed and are excited to keep our eyes and ears open for how God works in our lives! Thank you for your prayers and support!
