Survey: Pharmacists Believe COVID-19 Will Result in Lasting Changes for Local Pharmacies According to a new survey released by the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is changing how local pharmacies do business across the country, and these changes may be for the long term.

The NCPA sent a COVID-19 survey to 8000 pharmacy owners and managers between May 18 and May 25, 2020, and used 315 responses for analysis. Although nearly three-quarters of respondents stated they did not offer point-of-care testing before the pandemic, 61% said they anticipated more pharmacies offering point-of-care testing for illnesses, such as COVID-19, in the future.

60% OF APAC CONSUMERS CONFUSED ABOUT NUTRITION FACTS APAC: Findings from Herbalife Nutrition’s Asia-Pacific Nutrition Myths Survey 2020 show that 60% of consumers were confused about nutrition facts.

The survey was conducted with 5,500 respondents from Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, S Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam in March 2020. In a general nutrition knowledge quiz administered together with the survey, 48 "True or False" questions spanning nine nutrition areas -- general nutrition, protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, caffeine, weight management and breakfast -- were presented to participants. Just 23% of the respondents answered half or more of the questions correctly.

The top three areas with the biggest nutrition knowledge gaps were: • Minerals: only 28% of respondents answered the questions in the category correctly • Caffeine: 33% • Protein: 34% Comment from Senior VP & Managing Director, Asia-Pacific, Herbalife Nutrition, Stephen Conchie: The prevalence of nutrition myths on the internet has led to widespread confusion over nutrition facts vs fiction. Not only do the majority of consumers believe that consuming carbohydrates alone will result in weight gain, many of them also believe that less protein is required as they grow older, which is far from the truth. To help address these nutrition information gaps, we have been working with leading health and nutrition experts to make accurate nutritional knowledge widely available for Asia-Pacific's consumers. We believe a collective effort by governments, healthcare institutions and the nutrition industry would be more effective in keeping consumers better informed in the long run, and hope more can partner with us on this journey to help people lead healthier lives.

GSK sales rose by 19% at constant exchange rates in Q1 2020 to £9.1bn (US$11.4bn).

Consumer Healthcare grew by 46% to £2.9bn (US$3.6bn), largely driven by the inclusion of the Pfizer portfolio. On a pro-forma basis, sales increased by 11% (14% excluding brands divested / under review). Overall growth was heavily impacted by Covid-19; the impact varied across regions as a result of differing government actions and consumer behaviour.

USA, UK, Australia and several other markets benefited from increased demand and shopper activity in both traditional retail and e-Commerce channels, which resulted in accelerated purchases across all categories, while some markets, including India and China, were negatively impacted by mandated retailer shut-downs.

• Pain relief grew by 68% to £611mn (US$765mn). On a pro-forma basis, sales grew in the mid-teens, with significant growth of Advil and Panadol reflecting accelerated purchases as a result of Covid-19. This was partly offset by Voltaren, which was flat • Vitamins, minerals & supplements more than doubled to £363mn (US$455mn). On a pro-forma basis, sales grew in the high-teens, with strong performances from Centrum and Emergen-C, reflecting increased demand for wellbeing products • Respiratory health was up by 51% to £439mn (US$550mn). On a pro-forma basis, sales grew in the mid-twenties, with broad-based growth across the category, primarily reflecting a combination of accelerated purchases and increased consumption in response to the pandemic • Digestive health and other brands grew by 31% to £452mn (US$566mn). On a pro-forma basis, sales grew in low-single digits.

Growth was driven largely by Tums in USA, partly offset by a weaker Skin health performance • Oral health sales grew by 13% to £733mn (US$918mn)

Workshop on Genetic Engineering for Year 12 A-level biology and level 3 BTEC students The Francis Crick Institute’s Discovery Zone at Regent High School Chalton Street, London NW1 1RX Do you want to give your students an inspirational experience of practical science? Do you want a relevant activity-based trip for your science course? Do you want to extend your own understanding of current experimental science? Then come to the Francis Crick Institute’s Discovery Zone at Regent High School.

Our workshops aim to consolidate topics covered in A-level and BTEC level 3 courses, and enhance the students’ knowledge beyond the core curriculum and into the realms of modern biomedical research. The first workshop will be on the theme of genetic engineering.

Over the course of a day, your students will get to meet scientists, discuss careers, experiment with equipment not normally found in school labs, and develop their skills in problem solving and team-working.

This workshop will be repeated on several dates between June 29th and July 10th, and runs between 10am and 2:30pm. It is FREE to all Camden state secondary schools and is suitable for groups of up to approximately 20 students.
