The site, located in the town of Stalbridge, has many listed buildings, ranging from the 16th century to the 19th century. These houses can be easily viewed upon driving through the heart of the town, with the road layouts even remaining similar to the ‘old’ town.

Concept research #2: Analogous Design

During my site analysis, I also thought about a different design concept I could explore. This was building off of the design of a similar space within the building of the site: the en-suite bathroom one room along. I think this could be a good idea as it relates to the site’s context, making the home feel complete. Below is a reminder of this room:

This room features light woods/bamboo; light green/mint, bright whites, and natural colours; hard ceramic tiling; smooth light stone (flooring); more coarse natural textured fabrics; silver metals. Looking more closely at the type of fitted furniture I could draw from, the sink unit follows the modern Scandinavian style that is currently popular. It is a ‘floating’ unit that is more seamless, with simple functional handles, and a sink that is built into the unit (i.e. it does not appear to sit on top of the unit as a separate piece, and must be there to finish the unit as a complete piece of furniture).

The following research shows how the themes of the en-suite bathroom (Scandi design) and previous concept (Victorian style) can be combined:

Design Brief

"A fitted sink vanity/unit with storage space, that pertains to the Scandi style of the home already, whilst introducing the Victorian design style of the site location."
