WEEK 01.

ASSIGNMENT 1 CAN YA MA CAN

Assignment Objective

Creating an abstract composition made of waste tin containers

GRADE: 7.5/10

Feedback

The painting job was poor overall neatness to be improved

Reflection

I should have added more cans to the composition to intervene the x,y and z axis. I should have emphasized more the angle of cutting that I chose as it was not appreciated enough .

RECTILINEAR VOLUMES

Assignment Objective

Creating 12 rectilinear volumes using three forms per composition while integrating the x,y and z axis

GRADE: 7/10

CLASSWORK 1

Feedback Reflection

Lacks neatness

Intervened the x,y,z axis in the forms but the assembly is repetitive

I should have utilized more the different sizes of the forms to my advantage. The edges of the forms should be cut straighter and cleaner to emphasize the rectilinear aspect of the volume.

WEEK 02.

ASSIGNMENT 2 HERE I AM

Assignment Objective

Inspired by the works of artist “Guda Koster”, we were required to create a rectilinear composition, in their style, to express ourselves and vision as a designer.

GRADE: 7.5/10

Feedback Reflection

Poor photography and lighting

Poor execution of the form

I would have liked to express my vision as a designer better and more accurately. I do not regret the photography location, I believe it was innovative and the colors matched the form nicely, but the photography skills need enhancement.

Creating 12 curvilinear dynamic volumes using 3 forms per composition

GRADE: 8.5/10

CL CUR ES Assignment Objective

Feedback

Repetitive variations

Reflection

I found the clay easier and cleaner to shape using curvilinear volumes than rectilinear ones.

WEEK 03.

Assignment Objective

In the spirit of the movement of inflatable architecture, “Bubbletecture”, in groups of 3, we were required to select an iconic architectural structure and recreate it in curvilinear forms using balloons.

GRADE: 7.5/10

ASSIGNMENT 3 BUBBLETECTURE

Feedback

Better to have used inflatable material instead of the metallic paper and stick to covering the entire form with inflatable material as instructed.

Reflection

The balloons were diffiult to shape but I think the form itself turned out to be quite similar to the original building, and if we had covered the metallic paper with silver balloons or used a helium ballon it would have improved the building a lot .

DETAIL CLOSEUP MATERIAL CLOSEUP BUILDING INSPIRATION

RECTI/CURVI-LINEAR VOLUMES

CLASSWORK 3

Assignment Objective Create 5 rectilinear and curvilinear volumes using the rules of spatial organization.

GRADE: 8/10

Feedback

Grid form was a safe choice of composition cluster form had mixed expressions

Reflection

I could have been more bold in my expressions, so I should experiment more and keep an open mind.

WEEK 04.

ASSIGNMENT 4 AL SHAMADAN

Assignment Objective

Following a regional product design approach you are required to design a candle holder/candelabra. Your design must be both functional and draw inspiration, and reference to a regional style using only curvilinear and rectilinear volumes.

GRADE: 8.5 /10

Feedback Reflection

Not durable therefore it lacked the function aspect of the assignment

Lacked neatness

I was aiming to represent the moroccan region by using various geometric shapes as found in their textiles, but I could have reconfigured the shapes in a more outstanding way which was hard to do as it affected the durability. I aimed to used neutral colors found in many moroccan urban areas, but the paint job needs enhancement.

FRAGMENTED VOLUMES

CLASSWORK 4

Assignment Objective

Create a fragmented composition out of each of the five shapes (sphere, cone, cylinder, cube, cuboid)

GRADE: 9/10

Feedback

I received good feedback especially for putting in effort.

Reflection

I I could have used a more creative way to fragment the rectangle and I should improve my neatness with the clay.

WEEK 05.

CARNIVAL OF THE MONOBLOC

ASSIGNMENT 5

Assignment Objective

Deconstruct the Monobloc chair transforming it into an object with its own identity and narrative.

GRADE: 9.5/10

Feedback

The melting technique of the chair was professional and efficient, which created a very good effect.

Reflection

I was aiming to show the melting part of the chair as "bones" as if that it's the chair's "skeleton" and the other side is perfectly intact to show that differentiation between the "exterior body" and the "interior body".

CLASSWORK 5 PLANAR CONSTRUCTION

Assignment Objective

Create 4 compositions representing the colors (Blue, Red, Green and Yellow) using planar sheet of paper

GRADE: 8.5/10

Feedback

The Red expression was good.

Reflection The expressions needed better execution.

?.

WEEK 06.

ASSIGNMENT 6: MASHRABIYA

Assignment Objective

Inspired by one or more of the multiple aspects of the "Mashrabiya", we were required to create a 3D composition using planar units.

GRADE: 7/10

Feedback

It would have been better to design an abstract composition. I was inspired by this rectilinear pattern of a Mashrabiya and created my own on a digital software. I used laser cut wood panels as my planar material of choice to mirror the popularity of wood use in Mashrabiyas.

LINES IN SPACE

Assignment Objective

Create 20 different compositions of wires expressing 20 different songs

GRADE: 7/10

CLASSWORK 6

Feedback

The models were repetitive .

Reflection

I could have used more techniques to express the tunes.
