The Hawth Crawley Classical Season 2019/20

Welcome to the new classical music season at The Hawth. This year our resident orchestra, the world-renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra are truly making themselves at home as sole providers of the wonderful concerts and chamber recitals on offer in the Theatre and Studio. There will be the opportunity to be transported to the Mediterranean and across Europe in concerts celebrating Italian Romance and a Grand Tour. We will also be paying tribute to 250 years of Beethoven’s music, while the final concert of the season brings us back home for the Last Night of the Proms. We are delighted that the Miniatures, which proved so popular on their introduction last season will return once more.

Subscriptions Subscribing to all eight events (Platinum Season) saves £48 or subscribe to the Gold Season (all four Theatre concerts) and save £24. •

Concentrating on the works to be performed that evening, the events will take a variety of forms this season, with talks from music professionals, a chance to meet the musicians or a Q & A session with a member of the RPO team. Each will add something extra to your concert experience and we hope you enjoy the insights and information offered.

Tonight’s concert celebrates Italy’s rich tradition of orchestral music. The Overture to Mozart’s sharply satirical Così fan tutte opera provides a playful opening, which gives way to Martucci’s lush and pensive Notturno No.1, with its yearning melodic lines and soothing orchestration.

Overflowing with energy, invention and rustic melody, Glazunov’s String Quintet in A major is a charming curtain-raiser for this intimate Sunday matinee chamber concert. This will be followed by Schubert’s C major String Quintet which is a firm favourite on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, with over 70 guests selecting it as a castaway essential since the programme started in 1942.
