FPJ WIDOW, DAUGHTER SEEK JUSTICE OVER POLL CHEATING

ANILA, Philippines - The family of the late movie actor and presidential candidate Fernando Poe Jr. welcomed yesterday the allegations of former Maguindanao election supervisor Lintang Bedol that there was massive fraud during the 2004 presidential election.

The Poe family wants people responsible brought to justice. Sen. Francis Escudero, who served as Poe’s spokesman during his candidacy, said he is pushing for the creation of a fact-finding body that would determine the true winner in the controversial polls. Poe’s daughter, Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chair Grace Poe-Llamanzares, said in a statement that they are hopeful but cautious on recent developments regarding Bedol’s disclosures about fraud in the 2004 and 2007 elections. “We have been saying for the past seven years that there was rampant cheating in the

2004 elections. FPJ may never be officially declared the true winner because some of the vital documents were destroyed or lost. But in my heart and in the minds of many, he (FPJ) won,” Llamanzares said. In a separate statement aired over ABSCBN, Susan Roces, widow of the late actor, said she welcomes Bedol’s reappearance and it’s now clear to her that there was really cheating in the 2004 presidential polls. Roces said that although her husband has passed away, it is important that those responsible for the cheating that resulted in the political defeat of “The King” in the presidential polls be (continued on page 4)

Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario welcomed US House Resolution 352 calling for “a peaceful and collaborative resolution of maritime territorial disputes in the South China Sea and its environs and other maritime areas adjacent to the East Asian mainland” by select members of the US Congress. “We welcome the support of US con-
