The registration lobby for Disney’s first Hawaii resort is a portal through which guests enter the wondrous place that Disney is known for throughout the world. Hawaiian Dredging shared its experience and expertise with Disney’s design team to fulfill the vision of a tropical paradise that includes a signature volcano water feature with slides and cascading waterfalls, towers adorned with “log” frames and massive murals, restaurants that take diners back to another time in Hawaii history, and countless other details that contribute to an unforgettable island experience.

1902 - 1929: Founded in 1902 by Walter F. Dillingham, Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company’s beginnings included dredging the entrance to Pearl Harbor, constructing the Ala Wai Canal, and developing much of Honolulu’s waterfront. Notable buildings constructed during this period include Honolulu’s King Kalakaua Building (Main Post Office) and the Honolulu Museum of Art (fka Honolulu Academy of Arts) both of which are included in the National Registry of Historic Places.
1930 - 1959: Hawaiian Dredging constructs much of Pearl Harbor’s waterfront facilities, dry docks and infrastructure to service the nation’s largest military vessels. Following World War II, Hawaiian Dredging and Hawaiian Contracting merge to become Hawaiian Dredging Construction, Ltd and go on to build much of the roads and highways for the then territory of Hawaii along with the Ala Moana Shopping Center, billed as the largest shopping center in the world.
1960 - 1999: Hawaiian Dredging completes two five-star hotels, the Four Seasons Wailea Hotel and the Hawaii Prince Hotel. By the end of 1991, the company completes the Fairmont Orchid (fka Ritz Carlton Mauna Lani) and Manele Bay Hotel and commenced work on the Halawa side of the tunnel for the long-awaited H-3 Freeway. In a partnership that would lead to a long relationship, Hawaiian Dredging serves as the prime contractor for Kajima Construction Services in completing the five-star luxury resort, Hualalai Resort.
2000 - 2009: The relationship that began as Hawaiian Dredging and Kajima Construction Services, worked together to build the Hualalai Resort in 1996, results in Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc. becoming a subsidiary of Kajima USA. A relationship that has proved to be an asset to both entities. By 2005, Hawaiian Dredging completes the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine in Kakaako and major civic projects including the General Purpose Apron & ASAP Building at
Maui’s Kahalui Airport, the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor Floating Docks, and the Kealakaha Stream Bridge replacement on the island of Hawaii before constructing the unmistakable twin towers of the Moana Pacific residential condominium.
2010 - TODAY: Consistently ranked at the top of Building Industry Magazine’s annual list of the Top 25 Contractors in the State of Hawaii, Hawaiian Dredging maintains a high level of new construction and renovation work in all major building sectors through its

Kaunakakai Harbor Ferry System Improvememnts (2015) Used as both a commercial and recreational harbor, Kaunakakai Harbor is important to Molokai’s commerce and recreational needs of the community. The terminal building for the Molokai Ferry was upgraded to accommodate passengers traveling between Molokai and Maui with restroom facilities and an expanded covered waiting area.

Honoapiilani Highway Realignment Phase 1A / Kahoma Stream Bridge (2013) This project brought instant relief for the West Maui community. The bypass road provides a critical evacuation route and alleviates daily traffic congestion. To avoid the erosive forces of the stream’s strong water, an inverted tied-arch bridge was designed and constructed completely avoiding any supports in the stream bed and banks.

Kapiolani Residence (2019) The 45-story Kapiolani Residence, a 485-unit residential condominium, began its construction aided by Hawaiian Dredging’s state-of-the-art Preconstruction Services which include Augmented and Virtual Reality Technology (virtual rendering of project shown on left) allowing stakeholders to experience their projects in a three-dimensional immersive environment either in the office or in the field.
Partnering with owners and developers to produce retail and office spaces, healthcare and institutional facilities, hotels and resorts, high-rises and condominiums. The Building division has created many of Hawaii’s iconic structures.
P-858 Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (2017) Delivered by Hawaiian Dredging, this project includes new and renovated facilities that enhance unity integrity and cohesion. Part of the Grow the Force program, this project includes a new 107-room BEQ building, two (2) renovated barracks, and a new 10,400 square foot company command headquarters building, shared by four (4) companies.
Queen’s Medical Center (Various) Through its long established working relationship with the Queen’s Medical Center, Hawaiian Dredging has performed numerous new and renovation projects to meet the ongoing needs of one of Hawaii’s oldest and largest healthcare systems. The Hawaiian Dredging renovated l veranda entry to its main campus invites the center’s patients and visitors with elegant surroundings capitalizing on the area’s tropical vegetation.
University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine (2008) This is a LEED Certified, multi-structure education and research complex. The project incorporates sustainable design concepts which take advantage of natural elements. This project was constructed under a joint venture between Hawaiian Dredging and Kajima Construction.
The Collection (2016) The 43-story residential tower includes 397 units, a 54-unit 4-story mid-rise building, 16 townhomes, and a 6-story parking structure which provides 921 parking spaces. It’s luxurious amenities include a flexible fitness center, yoga room, movie theatre, multi-purpose room, club room with kitchen, pool, spa, barbecues, pavilions, bike and surfboard storage, lockers, and a dog run.
Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa (2011) Aulani is Disney’s first stand-alone resort in the world. It was delivered on a 21-acre site located on the beaches of Ko Olina on the leeward coast of Oahu. The resort offers 1,066 guestrooms, a convention center, a kids’ club, restaurants, spa & fitness center, retail spaces, and a variety of pools. It is the first resort in Hawaii to received LEED Silver Certification.
801 South Street Tower A and Tower B (2015/2016) 801 South Street was an affordable project consisting of two 46-story condominium towers. Tower A has 635 units with a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom floor plans. Tower B has 410 units with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans. The project also includes two stand-alone parking structures that together accommodate a total of 1,703 vehicles.
Kō‘ula at Ward Village (2022) Kō‘ula’s 41-story residential tower’s exterior wallum design plays with light and shadow, suggesting the natural movement of red sugar cane that once thrived the area. This tower comprises 566 condominiums, including studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes, and offers luxury resort-like amenitites.
Waihonua at Kewalo (2014) The 43-story residential tower includes 341 residences and an attached 6-level parking structure with roof top recreational deck. Amenities include two guest suites, contemporary main lobby, fitness center, movie theater, club room with full kitchen, lounge, pool, and storage and surfboard areas.
Halekauwila Place (2014) This affordable rental housing complex offers a unique combination of a 19-story residential tower and adjacent 5-level parking garage that includes 284 parking stalls and five 2-story townhome units. The residential tower comprises of 199 studio and one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartment units. Also included in the complex are three retail spaces on the ground floor.
Kapiolani Residence (2018) The Kapiolani Residence project included a 45-story tower with 484 condominium homes. The project offered 262 of its 485 residential condominium units for affordable housing. The project was built using tunnel form technology which allowed the highrise to be constructed more quickly and efficiently

SALT at Our Kakaako (2015) As part of the Owner’s Our Kakaako master plan, SALT at Our Kakaako is a 76,000 SF urban island marketplace designed to provide a pedestrian-oriented open air and green space concept. The project design carefully re-uses several existing structures to preserve the sense of place and history of the area.
Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center (2013) This award-winning Phase 2 for the state-of-the-art health care facility provides an integrated Adult Medical Services and Pharmacy building, exam rooms, laboratories, x-ray room, and administrative and classroom facilities to support the combination of western and traditional Hawaiian medical practices offered by the center.
Espacio The Jewel of Waikiki (2019) Converting the former 84-unit Waikiki Beachside into a nine-unit, no-compromise luxury hotel presented unprecedented challenges. Following the highly complex removal and reconstruction of the building’s inner core, the structure was literally transformed from its foundation to its new rooftop spa and pool deck. The construction feat was accomplished in a site literally locked in by existing buildings on all three sides and Waikiki’s busy Kalakaua Avenue along its entire front.
Hoolea Terrace at Kehalani (2010) The construction of Hoolea Terrace at Kehalani’s nine 6-plex multi-family dwellings provided a total of 174 units. The project offers one and two-story units with two or three bedrooms and 2 to 2.5 bathrooms. The residential complex of light wood framed units constructed on concrete slabs-on-grade displays Hawaiian Dredging’s building versatility beyond the structural concrete for which the company is best known.
Rengo Corrugated Packaging Facility (2014) Providing Hawaii with its first corrugated packaging facility, Hawaiian Dredging design-built the specialized facility that would allow for cardboard products to be manufactured locally. To achieve the floor flatness required by the precision machinery and equipment, Hawaiian Dredging utilized laser-screed equipment on the concrete that was poured in the wee morning hours to allow the maximum settling time.
Keauhou Lane (2017) Keauhou Lane is a LEED Platinum mixed-use mid-rise development consisting of 209 rental residential units and street-level retail in the heart of Kakaako. Keauhou Lane incorporates an energy and water conservation system, including a 58-panel solar hot water system that meets 40% of the hot water heating load. Keauhou Lane is located adjacent to the future Kaka’ako Rail Station which will allow easy train access for the future tenants to other parts of the city when rail is completed.

Lahaina By-Pass 1B-2 (2018) Hawaiian Dredging constructed nearly two miles of two-lane highway with all related infrastructure and mass grading for future expansion. ROADS & HIGHWAYS
Umauma Stream Bridge (2015) This 278-foot bridge on the Big Island was constructed in 1911 to support railroad tracks and was expanded for highway use in 1953. Hawaiian Dredging’s renovation work in 2015 provides for modern highway needs while preserving the historic steel support towers. A precast concrete deck and two new concrete columns inside of the original steel support towers provide the required structural needs while preserving the bridge’s rich history

Kahului Airport Access Road (2016) Topping off miles of newly-constructed roadways it had built to provide access into and Maui’s international airport, Hawaiian Dredging also constructed the stunning water feature welcoming travelers into the airport area and its new Consolidated Rental Car (ConRAC) facility also being constructed by Hawaiian Dredging.Creating and maintaining the infrastructure in and around the water. We build harbors and give our buildings a firm footing. The capacity to perform deep foundation work is a strength unique to Hawaiian Dredging on various types of projects ranging from high-rise condominiums to exciting new commercial projects along the water’s edge.

Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant (2013) Hawaiian Dredging constructed three new odor control system utilizing biological odor scrubbers with the capacity to treat 120,000 cubic feet of foul air every minute. These scrubbers house bacteria that feed on noxious hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas generated during wastewater treatment, resulting in a significant reduction of H2S gas.
Our Heavy and Power & Industrial Divisions allow us to meet the needs of large scale development projects such as subdivisions, planned communities, and other major complexes needing major earthwork, dedicated roadway and related improvements, and special power and water handling/treatment capabilities.
Kapaa Stream Bridge, Waipa Stream Bridge, Lahaina Bypass (Top, Bottom L-R) Replacement of Kauai’s Kapaa Stream Bridge and upgrades to the Kuhio Highway/Mailihuna Road intersection performed while maintaining traffic flow on one of the island’s busiest roadways; replacement of the flood-damaged Waipa Stream Brridge; construction of the Lahaina Bypass and on/off ramps.
