Among Lower Mainland residents, the festival inspires a ritualistic migration to the sand. By the end of the festival, more than one million spectators have staked out blankets along the shore from Sunset Beach to Kits Point. Local press routinely ranks the Celebration of Light as British Columbia’s single most-attended cultural event, ahead of even the Vancouver International Film Festival, and tourism agencies pitch the fireworks as a signature summer draw for international visitors. Unlike Canada Day displays that run once and disperse, this competition plays out over a full week, allowing gourmands to pair evenings on the beach with Stanley Park picnics or West End tasting menus.
The 2025 edition illuminates the sky on July 19th, 23rd, and 26th. In a first, all three teams hail from Canada.
