Personal Work | 2022

Location | Riyadh, Alriyadh prov. Area | 334 m2

Status | Under construction The project is designed by myself & my partner Omar Al Khalil

The owner wanted privacy and openness. He needed a place in the second floor where his friends can come without seeing his family’s living room, so we pushed and used the vertical circulation area as the main entrance for the main and the family doors. Doing that, we created a flexible visual connection between the men’s seating area and the family’s living.

The owner of both businesses wanted a design that combines these two in one building with no interconnection. We tried to make this building catchy to people on the street by creating an outdoor space that gathers both visitors, with a tree that compliment the hierarchy of the hard concrete scape. It would be intriguing for people to take a look and see what’s behind.

The idea is to make as much of the land as possible without sacrificing the ability of future resident to have a enjoyable living. The plan is the most important piece in this design, compact but free and open at the same time. Double height ceiling is not usual in similar plots and it is implemented by the stairs which makes the living space bigger than what it would appear. Visual endings were implemented to give the house a sense of paths.

The outmost privacy was a must in this project. Therefore, we returned back to our roots by implementing the courtyard in a modern manner that couldn’t exist in the past. The ground floor is a U shaped plan and the first floor is an O shaped plan. It gives you the sense of traditional living with a modern touch. Views on the 1st floor especially the living spaces, paths and the master bedroom has a private view of the GF outdoor area.

Alive Center

Shopping center Gradution project

semester 10, 2019

Our lives are lived in one of three places the first is the home, second is the place of work, and the third place is any social place outside of the first two. These are places where people can exchange ideas, have a good time and build a new relationship. A lot of malls are being torn down all around the world, people communicate and buy online, studies have shown that some digital communication can affect your mental or even physical health. We humans have an innate need to face to face contact. As more malls shut down so too other third places. The mall is a great place especially in regions where public spaces are either limited or even dangerous. Malls offer a place where people can safely meet, as well as be fed and entertained. And the aim is to move the standard consumer’s perception of a mall from ‘a place to buy things’ to ‘a place to have a day out’.

Experiences make us remember, connect emotionally with a stimuli and make us aware of what is surrounding us. Therefore, the project tries to engage all five senses. Starting with seemingly organic forms with smooth surfaces and curved edges that represent the loose and flexible human nature. Rough building texture that seem if it was emerged from nature and it also connects with the locals. Visual connections were implemented so people can feel safe. Visual connections between indoor/outdoor were placed so that the building can interact with the urban fabric. Shopping center’s spaces were put carefully so we could get the maximum visitor’s engagement. Site with contour of -4 southwest

The concept is to find a connection between humans and buildings. The physical similarity that both humans and buildings can not exist without it is their structure, and humans are flexible because of their joints so we implemented joints to our project.
