Four Distinguished Sitting Jurists Share Their Wisdom With HB Upper Schoolers In February, Hathaway Brown was proud to host a panel discussion by distinguished members of the U.S. federal courts system. These influential female judges included HB alumna Judge Benita Y. Pearson ’81 of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio; Judge Alice M. Batchelder of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit; Judge Patricia A. Gaughan of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio; and Chief Judge Marilyn SheaStonum of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Ohio. The discussion was moderated by Clerk of Court Geri M. Smith of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. The jurists shared with the Upper Schoolers their insights into the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Ohio, the law, the role of the courts, and their own personal journeys and career choices. The Center for Global Citizenship, overseen by Joe Vogel, sponsored this presentation as part of its 2010-2011 lecture series.
