Fevolution Saturday Round 3 | Hastings vs Devon Meadows at MB COM MERCIAL LININGS PARK – Hastings

Easter Weekend Saturday 20th April 2019 Brendan Fevola is set to take the field in what will surely go down as one of Hastings FNC’s most memorable matches as the Blues take on the Panthers on the Thomas Barclay Oval.

Bring the kids, grab something from our newly renovated canteen and a drink or come into the Club for a meal and watch some great footy and netball.

Match Report 13/04/2019 Round 2 - Rye vs Hastings @ Rye Netball The Netball A Grade Girls continuing their great start to the season with another win against Rye, another side they had not beaten before, the B grade also had a good win and the C & D girls played really well but loss in close games, the under 17 started the day off with a good win.

Football The boys travelled down to Rye which has historically always been a tough task for our club.

The 3rds started the day of with good numbers and a lot of expectation after their good win last week, unfortunately they did not come to play early and from then on struggled throughout the day and suffered a loss, they are a very young team with a lot of boys playing well above their age group and struggled against the bigger bodies of the Rye boys. They will improve and will be getting a few boys back over the next week so a win next week against Devon Meadow’s is a big chance.

The 2nds had a tight game all day but just could not get ahead any time in the game and suffered a loss, the team has a lot of improvement in them and will get better over the next month with injured players due to come back.

The Senior Team had a great day, despite 6 being out from round 1 with injuries, the team was one of the youngest senior team we had for a while, we had two debutants in Clayton Gay (back from the stingrays for a week) who played a great game kicking a couple of goals and looking very lively along with young Ryan Regan who was also very good, both boys families have a strong association with the club and great to see them out there.

We started the game really well and maintained our composure well throughout with Rye challenging a few times, we did kick away however Rye kicked a few late goals and we left with a really solid 20 point win. As mentioned a really good win for our club and gives the senior team a great start to the season. – Phil Stone

Loyal readers would be aware that the “Flyer” now provides a service the AFL (country) decided we didn’t need, (or want) the Football/Netball record. In the Flyer last week’s 6 pages featured our teams, numbers and information about players representing Hastings. Well done to whom-ever thought about this initiative. Not so well done relegating the Erg closer to the rubbish bin.

By any standard of measurement the Club is progressing towards a viable future both as a member’s club and a supporter of local community sport and concern for the well being of our citizens. Due in no small doses to the professionalism of our employees and yes, it is reported here quite often, IT IS A MEMBER Club.

Don’t like what’s happening??? Well DO something! Get on the

board, become part of those criticised for a while, it’s not all pleasant but it is satisfying serving the community.

Dennis from Old Tyabb loves the idea of the club providing surrogate Football Record information. “Nothing more frustrating than looking blankly at players of the Hastings Club and not knowing who they are, I’m sure the players like to be identified for their skills and courage,” says Dennis.

Right on Dennis! Come into the Club Easter Saturday and grab a copy of the Flyer.

Thanks be to Brian Stahl for his interest and reminders. Members, with any suggestions for celebrating some remarkable achievements, lob your ideas at the front desk and while you are there turn around look up and reflect on the Club founders, Ted Lillywhite, Norm Francis and Richard Everist. Unfortunately all have departed this planet but they are still influential in all things Club. The Sports Bar, the Ted Lillywhite room, Ted a retired orchardist, used to drive the grader at the

Hastings rubbish tip. Now referred to as the Pelican Point Park. Norm Francis was a professional fisherman and Rick? A very successful business owner, of Everist Timber.

For the K’s The Ant selected Rudyard Kipling, featured earlier, a wordsmith of note and the first English winner of the Nobel Prize for literature, 1907. Kipling’s ode, “If” is timeless. Starts something like this: “If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you. If you can trust yourself” ... etc: “A mighty word is IF;” says The Ant, IF only, the game changer for us all, then there are 7 AFL games in 11 days on 7; good luck tippers. A tipping bonanza!

Erg says: “Round 6 begins WEDNESDAY the 24th of April. Anzac Day eve if you like! Tipsters get your tips in on time.”

Fed up with boring AFL footy? Low risk possession game, low scoring, record number of uncontested marks: all clubs might be reminded of the motto: “who dares wins.” Local footy, Hastings: The Fevolution starts this Saturday. Be there and “dare to be entertained.”
