Welcome

Welcome to Hartlepool College of Further Education – an anchor institution within the town that has been transforming lives since 1849. First of all, thank you for considering Hartlepool College of Further Education as a place for you to study, learn and grow.

The mission of the College is a simple one: Excellence in Further and Higher Education to Transform Students’ Lives and we aim to be one of the leading colleges in the Tees Valley, East Durham and beyond for the provision of high-quality professional and technical education.

The information in this prospectus will give you a clear picture of WHAT we do and HOW we do it, but for me, it’s also important to highlight WHY we do what we do.

In essence, we do what we do to ensure that every learner who comes to the College is equipped with the right skills, qualifications, attitude and confidence to exploit the opportunities that will exist upon leaving the College.

As a former student at the College in the early 2000s I can honestly say that the exceptional staff and world class facilities transformed my life, so I’m incredibly proud to be a member of staff at the College and hoping to improve it so it is an even better College for future generations to enjoy and flourish in.

So, whether you want to progress onto university or into the world of work, we want to ensure that the College helps to transform your life.

Specialist Delivery

Here at Hartlepool College, we have the facilities to deliver a great range of practical courses at our partner site Seymour Skills Academy.

The Academy is a specialist North East based training centre providing a wide range of accredited and bespoke construction and civil engineering plant training to meet the needs of companies and individuals alike. The Skills Academy offers learners the opportunity to train within an 11 acre, real-life construction site environment, equipped with industrial plant and machinery, a specialist confined space unit, classrooms and welfare facilities.

The College also has its own test rail track equipped with signals, crossing, switches and two running rail lines enabling our Rail Engineering learners to complete all practical assessments in a real-life environment.

Sector Based Work Academies (SWAP)

The sector-based work academy (SWAP) programme can support you to create a skilled workforce for your business. SWAPS help prepare those receiving unemployment benefits to apply for jobs in different areas of work. Placements are designed to help meet your immediate and future recruitment needs as well as to recruit a workforce with the right skills to sustain and grow your business. Hartlepool College of Further Education works in partnership with Jobcentre Plus to administer referrals to SWAP programmes which can last up to six weeks and have three main components:

1. Pre-employment training – matched to the needs of your business sector

2. Work experience placement – a great opportunity for your business to identify talent and for the individual to cement their knowledge and understanding of the required role

3. A guaranteed job interview or help with an employer’s recruitment process

An important feature of a SWAP is that each sector-based work academy offers a flexible approach and can be adapted to meet the needs of your business.

Participants remain on benefits while on a SWAP and there is no direct cost to an employer for running a sector-based work academy as training and administration costs are covered by government funding.

For more information on delivering a SWAP please contact the team.
