Scholarships Awarded To Hospital Volunteers Volunteer Services and the Auxiliary are pleased to announce they have awarded scholarships to hospital volunteers Ying Ying Zhang, Annie Henderson, and Alexandra Shaw. Ying Ying Zhang is graduating from Glastonbury High school and will be pursuing a degree in neuroscience at Duke University. Ying Ying volunteered more than 100 hours of service to Hartford Hospital on the Book Cart, hospitality, and in the Infusion Center. The school counselor at Glastonbury high describes how Y i n g Ying’s “face lights up when she describes the experience of truly being able to help someone in need. To have staff at the hospital entrust her abilities is truly a reflection of how valuable she is to any institution.” Annie Henderson is graduating from Glastonbury High school and will be pursuing a degree in nursing at the University of South Carolina.

Annie Henderson

Annie volunteered more than 367 hours. The staff in Ambulatory Surgery Recovery stated that “Annie is outgoing, energetic, kindhearted, hardworking and has a great sense of humor. We are positive she will one day be a great asset to Hartford Hospital as an RN.” Alexandra Shaw is a physician assistant student at Springfield College who has volunteered more than 180 hours to the mobility volunteer program.

Navy Doctors Train At CESI Our Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI) welcomed back the second class of U.S. Navy physicians and medical personnel with the Undersea Medical Officer Program (UMO). The 16 medical providers, from naval bases throughout the United States, attended a class here on May 30.

Alexandra Shaw

Alex said that “the staff on the floors where I volunteer have been remarkable, and have taken the time to explain various aspects of health care to help me fully understand what is happening with patients and how to care for them in the best and safest way. This has reinforced my dedication in becoming a physician assistant. Without volunteering at Hartford Hospital, none of this would have been possible.”

Compliance Questions or Concerns? If you need to obtain information about compliance issues or raise concerns regarding internal and regulatory practices

naval educators requested that the UMO trainees be sent back to CESI.

They will be deployed to surface ships, staff naval hospitals and be embedded with ground troops.

The feedback we received was that CESI is not only a wonderful training facility but also has a very committed staff.

The UMO previously used a naval base in San Diego for simulation training, but CESI has been so successful for submarine medics that

Several Hartford Hospital doctors donate their time to CESI when the UMO doctors and medics are training here.
