50 YEARS AGO, RICK HART STARTED SOMETHING SPECIAL. TODAY, HE’S IN GOOD COMPANY.
It starts with one man and a bold vision to transform the Western Australian retail landscape. An adventurous spirit willing to push the limits of the time. And so, the Rick Hart name, synonymous with electrical appliances, came to life in 1975.
Since then, we have been enhancing the heart of the home with an unwavering commitment to excellence. The Rick Hart legacy is built on continually raising the bar, ensuring our customers receive an unmatched experience from the moment they step into our showroom.
Today, the Hart & Co. story celebrates a Western Australian family-owned business, our love for appliances and how they bring joy and connection to the kitchen. Whether sharing moments with family or entertaining friends, it’s about creating memories in the place where life happens every day.
Every appliance, every experience, and every interaction stands as a testament to this. Our family promises to continue bringing you all that and more, because the next generation is in good hands. We are a WA family grateful to be a part of yours.
That’s the Hart & Co. difference.
Marketing & Experience Director, Hart & Co.
I’m incredibly proud to be celebrating my Dad’s remarkable 50 years in business in Western Australia in 2025. When he started in 1975, colour television had only just arrived in Australia—it’s extraordinary to consider how much the electrical appliance industry has evolved since then. Through all these changes, he has remained at the forefront of the industry, earning a reputation as one of Perth’s most respected businessmen. We also deeply admire his dedication to the community, particularly his long-standing support for local charities. Over the past decade, Rick’s annual golf day has raised nearly a million dollars for Lifeline, a cause that’s close to his heart.
As the next generation—my brother, our long-term business partner Nicholas Kirby, and I— we feel privileged to continue the legacy Rick has built and to uphold the trust and loyalty our customers have placed in us over the years.
This is our fourth edition of Home Is Where the Hart Is, and we’re thrilled to fill our pages with kitchen design inspiration rooted right here in Western Australia. The majority of the images featured come from our very own design awards program, which we created to spotlight the incredible talent within the WA design industry. We hope these designs inspire our customers when planning their dream kitchens and laundries.
In this edition, we share some of our favourite local producers. With our rich Western Australian heritage, we are passionate about supporting the WA food and beverage industry and wherever possible choosing to buy local. Be sure to look out for the Buy West Eat Best logo when doing your shopping.
We carefully craft this magazine to share our insider knowledge and expert advice with those in the market. As a small business, producing an annual magazine is no small feat, but we do it to demonstrate our dedication to guiding customers through their appliance journey and helping them find products they’ll love. This is just one of the many things that sets us apart and showcases the Hart & Co. difference. We invite you to experience it firsthand and support our WA-owned family business, trusted by West Australians for 50 years.
Until our next inspiring edition,

Choosing kitchen appliances can be overwhelming, but you’re not alone! To simplify the process, we’ve created a straightforward checklist to guide you in selecting the perfect cooking appliances for your dream kitchen.
Choosing your appliances early is essential for effective kitchen planning. Think about the features that will elevate your cooking experience and make your kitchen truly yours.
Key considerations include:
þ Oven or freestanding cooker? This decision will shape your kitchen’s style. Do you prefer a separate built-in oven and cooktop, or to be integrated into one freestanding appliance?
þ How many ovens? Kitchens are increasingly opting for two 60cm ovens over a single 90cm unit. These can be stacked side by side or one above the other. Two ovens offer greater efficiency than heating a single, larger oven.
þ Gas or electric cooktop? Do you have access to both fuel types? There’s been a strong shift towards induction, but it’s important to consider the power requirements. You can also opt for a combination of gas and induction.
þ Are you wanting to integrate your appliances? Integrating appliances into your kitchen design creates a cohesive, streamlined look that elevates the overall space. This will influence your appliance choices.
þ Have you considered your rangehood? Your kitchen layout will determine your extraction options. Our specialists can guide you once your design is finalised.
No doubt you have collected design inspiration. To help refine your choice of kitchen appliance brands, start by visiting our showroom and selecting two appliances that best match your kitchen style. We can align your aesthetic preferences with your functional needs. If appliance aesthetic isn’t your priority, we’ll focus on guiding you through the various functional features to find the best fit and functionality options.
Keeping up with the latest in cooking technology can be challenging. Start by focusing on the oven or cooker and identifying which functions suit your cooking style. Our discovery consultation can help, as we’ll ask key questions around how you cook, to pinpoint the features you need and make tailored recommendations. Whether you prefer simple, user-friendly options or cutting-edge smart features, we’ll guide you to the right brand.
Key considerations include:
þ Self-cleaning ovens: A pyrolytic oven is ideal for those who want to avoid the hassle of cleaning.
þ Combination steam ovens: Perfect for enhancing the texture and flavour of foods by combining steam with conventional cooking. If you’re planning for two ovens, we highly recommend this option.
Seeing the products in action is essential to finding the right fit. We recommend booking a ‘before purchase’ oven demonstration, whether it’s our ‘latest appliance’ or ‘intro to combi steam’ class, to experience the features. Many customers find these demos help ease the decisionmaking process.
For 50 years, we’ve been equipping Western Australian homes, and each brand we introduce meets our high standards for quality, innovation, performance and after-sales care.
We provide a wide selection of brands to accommodate every budget, ensuring you don’t have to compromise on quality or functionality. Our cooking packages make it simple to find the ideal combination of appliances that match your needs and price range. Our team will help navigate the options, ensuring you make smart, cost-effective choices without compromising on style or performance.
New oven technology has made it easier than ever before to plate up MasterCheflevel meals and hearty family fare, but it’s also made shopping for a new oven a little bit overwhelming.
With so many new options, how do you ever decide? In this guide, we’ll dish up everything you need to know about the latest innovations in oven technology.
A combination steam oven is a versatile kitchen appliance that takes your traditional oven and enhances it with two remarkable functions: steam and combi steam. Opening up a world of possibilities, combination ovens will allow you to craft succulent and tender meats that melt in your mouth, while also achieving the perfect, irresistibly crispy pastry crust. With the fusion of oven heat and the gentle touch of steam, they’re the perfect option for elevating your cooking experience.
All-in-one ovens offer up to seven functions within a single oven unit, providing a comprehensive suite of cooking tools at your fingertips. These functions typically include multifunction baking; steam cooking; combination steam for the best of both worlds; microwave for quick heating; combination microwave for speed and flavour; air frying for that beloved crispy texture; and even in-oven barbecuing for a taste of the outdoors.
With an all-in-one oven, you can explore and expand your culinary repertoire, using traditional, steam, and microwave technologies to ensure your meals are cooked to perfection every time.
The trend of having more than one oven is undeniably becoming the new standard in modern kitchen designs. This shift reflects the growing demand for versatility and convenience in cooking, as multiple ovens offer the flexibility to prepare various dishes simultaneously or tackle complex recipes with ease.
Combination microwave ovens
This innovation allows you to seamlessly transition from defrosting to serving in a fraction of the time. It’s a gamechanger for busy families. Imagine savouring a perfectly roasted chicken in just 25 minutes!
Warming drawers
In-built warming drawers make an excellent addition to any kitchen. With this versatile appliance, you can preheat crockery, keep your food warm to perfection until ready to serve, and proof dough. You can even dehydrate fruits and herbs or make jerky.
Automatic programs
Let your oven do the thinking for you. Programmed for a variety of food types and dishes, it automatically selects the correct settings, combinations of functions, and temperatures, ensuring your dish is cooked to perfection every time.
Pyrolytic cleaning
Pyrolytic ovens use ultra-high temperatures to burn off baked-on residue. They eliminate the need for harsh cleaning chemicals, as the remaining light ash can simply be wiped away.
Wi-Fi connectivity
With Wi-Fi connectivity and phone apps, hovering near the oven has quickly become a thing of the past. Set timers remotely, change from steam to grill mid-cooking for a crispy skin or a gratin, and be alerted when dinner is ready, no matter where you are.
Meat probe
Meat probes take the guesswork out of cooking meat. These devices are programmed to alert you once the desired core temperature has been reached, ensuring you enjoy perfect results every time.
The Neff Slide and Hide retractable door offers a spacesaving design by sliding completely under the oven, providing unobstructed access and enhancing ease of use. This innovative feature improves accessibility, allowing users to comfortably reach into the oven while reducing the risk of burns or spills. It’s the perfect option for installations under benchtops or in small, narrow kitchens.
Sous vide cooking helps retain moisture in proteins, resulting in tender meats and vegetables with enhanced textures. The use of vacuum-sealed bags intensifies flavours and allows seasonings to penetrate deeply. Additionally, you can prepare meals in advance and finish them easily on the cooktop or in the oven, all while minimising the risk of overcooking.
Many modern ovens now feature built-in air fryer functions, enhancing their versatility and simplifying the process of achieving crispy, delicious results with less oil than traditional frying methods. This innovation allows health-conscious households to prepare multiple trays of food simultaneously, making meal preparation more efficient and convenient.
Telescopic rails in your oven act like an extra pair of hands, allowing the fully extendable tray to lock into position for easy access while cooking. These rails make it safer and smoother to get your food in and out.

If you haven’t discovered induction cooking yet, you’re missing out. This innovative cooking technology has become increasingly popular in years, thanks to its efficiency, precision and eco-friendliness.
Induction cooking is a modern and efficient method of cooking that utilises electromagnetic fields to directly heat cookware and the food inside it. Unlike traditional gas or electric cooktops that rely on heating elements, induction cooktops have a smooth, glass-ceramic surface that remains cool to the touch. When you place compatible cookware* on the cooktop and turn on the induction element, an alternating electric current generates a magnetic field. This magnetic field induces electric currents within the cookware, which in turn creates heat.
Rapid heating
Induction cooking allows for precise and rapid heating, making it great for busy households.
Efficient energy use
Induction cooking heats up your cookware directly, minimising heat loss to the surrounding environment for optimal efficiency.
Flexible zoning
Zones can be combined to accommodate larger pans, griddle pans or a teppanyaki plate. They can also be used independently to have multiple zones to accommodate several pans on the surface at the same time.
Easy cleaning
The induction cooktop’s sleek glass surface makes it easy to clean, there are no trivets or burners and no nooks and crannies to catch spills or crumbs.
Precise temperature control
With an induction cooktop you can control temperature more accurately. There is excellent control from low to high and has extremely even heat distribution.
Extension of your benchtop
Due to the sleek, flat, and highly integrated design of an induction cooktop, this can double as extra bench space and be utilised for varying food prep tasks.
Safety options
Induction cooking offers excellent safety features because they use electromagnetic energy to heat cookware directly, keeping the surface cooler and reducing burn risks. They also feature automatic switch off functions and have no open flames, further enhancing safety during cooking.
Power requirements
Induction cooktops have varying power requirements and may demand higher power levels, so it’s important to understand this before making your choice. Our expert appliance specialists can provide guidance to help you find the right option for your home.
Step into a new era of cooking
There’s no denying the growing trend toward embracing induction cooking in the kitchen, but if you really aren’t sure if it’s right for you, let us show you the difference with an instore demonstration.
ASKO Celsius°Cooking™ smart induction hobs and Bluetooth-connected cookware provide an unprecedented level of temperature control eliminating issues like undercooking or overboiling.

If you’re building, renovating, or upgrading your kitchen, steam ovens are a fantastic option to consider. They enhance the flavour and appearance of dishes by using steam to preserve nutrients, colour, and texture. Over the past decade, their popularity has soared, but navigating the terminology can be tricky. Different manufacturers often use varying terms for similar features, making comparisons difficult. Don’t worry—we’re here to decode the jargon and guide you in selecting the perfect steam oven for your needs.
These terms refer to adding steam to dry oven heat, resulting in moist food with a golden, crispy exterior. European manufacturers call this function combination steam, while American brands refer to it as convection steam. Some models allow you to adjust steam levels for precise control, so the choice between adjustable and fixed steam depends on whether you prefer simplicity or precision. Either way, combi/convection steam is excellent for preventing dryness in lean meats, fish, and muffins, and it’s especially popular among bakers for creating perfect bread.
This refers to settings that maintain a steady 100°C (or lower) with 100% humidity, similar to a stovetop steamer but with precise temperature control and ample cooking space. Full steam makes preparing fish, chicken, vegetables, and rice effortless. However, some full steam ovens lack conventional oven features, reducing versatility. Additionally, some brands use “full steam” to describe combi steam ovens, so be sure to clarify the capabilities of your chosen model before purchasing.
Note:
These refer to a type of steam oven that introduces a small amount of steam into regular cooking functions. Steam assist ovens don’t produce the steam output of combi steam ovens and can’t perform steam-only cooking. Instead, they enhance moisture like convection humid functions, making them ideal for everyday roasting, pasta bakes, and baking.
Consider how steam is delivered in the oven, as it affects maintenance. Many steam ovens use steam injection, generating steam in a boiler and piping it into the oven for efficient, easy cleanup. Others use evaporative steam, heating water in a reservoir, which requires wiping up residual water afterward.
Experience effortless maintenance with Miele’s innovative HydroClean self-cleaning function for combi steam ovens. This advanced system automates the cleaning process using a specially formulated liquid cleaner that softens and removes even the toughest residues. With a quick drying phase to finish, it’s easy to maintain your oven’s pristine condition. Miele recommends using HydroClean every three months—or more often for avid cooks—making oven care simpler than ever.

Cutting edge design. Intuitive appliances. Now in Matte Black.
BY CLARE RYAN
Whether you’re inspired by modern surfaces, cutting-edge technology or smart storage solutions, current kitchen design and appliance trends offer fresh inspiration. Senior interior designers Jessica Henworth and Ashlea Findlay, of Hillam Architects, share their expert insights on what’s hot in the kitchen, ensuring you stay ahead of the curve with a space that’s both stylish and functional.
Keep the design simple for a seamless feel.
JESSICA HENWORTH
They’re more than just functional spaces; they’re almost like social hubs. They offer extra table extensions and serve as significant design features in the home. It’s where a family can spread out, or it can be used as a grazing table when entertaining. In a bigger kitchen, the island allows you to spread everything out and truly embrace the space—it becomes a bespoke feature that elevates the entire design. However, in smaller kitchens, the focus shifts more toward functionality.
— JESSICA HENWORTH
The kitchen island has evolved from a minor feature to a central design element, gaining strength in design consideration and climbing the ladder in priority.
Striking bespoke kitchen islands are taking centre stage. Not only do they offer a multifunctional space that doubles as a gathering point for cooking, dining and socialising, but many have evolved to include dining table extensions, integrating a practical dining area that enhances the overall flow of the kitchen.
Elevate your design by combining different textures and finishes, that add character and transform an ordinary space into something unique and inviting.
Consider layering various materials like stone countertops, metal fixtures, and timber to enhance your design. Mixing materials such as glossy tiles with matte surfaces can create a dynamic contrast, while different hues can add personality to the room.
It depends on the size of your kitchen, but as a rule, I recommend sticking to a maximum of three different materials. This approach helps create a seamless feel, ensuring everything flows together without becoming overly complicated. For example, you could combine timber cabinetry and a tile flooring with a stone benchtop. This approach creates a cohesive and harmonious look, preventing the space from feeling too busy.
— ASHLEA FINDLAY
Don’t underestimate how important a well-placed pendant light or ambient task lighting is. Feature lighting plays a pivotal role in your kitchen’s design and functionality.
Lighting can instantly enhance the atmosphere of the kitchen, creating an inviting space for family gatherings and entertaining. Feature lighting in particular is essential for enhancing the overall aesthetic, while also providing the necessary illumination for tasks.
A well-placed pendant light over the kitchen island can serve as a stunning focal point…
ASHLEA FINDLAY
When selecting feature lighting for your kitchen, opt for a linear design that complements the layout and enhances the functionality of the space. The placement of your island bench and what’s happening on the back bench should guide your lighting choices. For instance, balanced cabinetry that mirrors each other can create a harmonious flow; I recommend choosing a pendant light that reflects this symmetry. Consider the location of the dining area; lighting over that space should coordinate without clashing with the island. The size and style of your lighting should also align with the overall kitchen dimensions.
— ASHLEA FINDLAY
Side-by-side and stacked ovens offer both convenience and a sleek aesthetic in modern kitchen designs.
This configuration provides easy access to multiple cooking options and is perfect for entertainers or avid cooks. The most popular pairing is the combination steam oven and pyrolytic oven, delivering ultimate versatility.
If you love to entertain and showcase your culinary skills, side-by-side ovens can be the ultimate focal point in your kitchen. A full four-stack configuration may include a warming drawer, a microwave, and multiple ovens. This versatility is perfect for culinary enthusiasts and discerning hosts who appreciate the ability to prepare a variety of dishes. With seamless technology integration, these ovens come equipped with smart features that allow you to control them from your phone. Today’s ovens also feature fewer knobs and handles, with many opting for a single knob and digital display for a clean look. Innovative features like auto-opening doors are on the horizon, making cooking even more convenient.
Induction cooktops have revolutionised cooking, offering a modern and efficient alternative to traditional gas and electric stoves. Whether you’re a seasoned chef or a home cook, induction cooktops are the ultimate combination of speed, safety, and style. If you’re seeking a seamless blend of functionality and design, then look no further.
Unlike traditional gas models, they offer a sleek look that integrates well with cabinetry, reducing focal point in the kitchen. With exceptional temperature control, they provide precise cooking without the risks of open flames, making them safer for families with children. The trend is shifting towards 90cm cooktops with five zones, while fullflex induction cooktops are also gaining popularity for their flexibility, allowing pots and pans to be arranged without defined zones. This innovative design can detect size and arrangement, enabling simultaneous cooking at different temperatures.
— JESSICA HENWORTH
Rather than hiding behind cabinetry, integrated rangehoods can become striking focal points in the kitchen. Customising the finish to match the surrounding décor creates a seamless design where the rangehood blends with the overall aesthetic. For example, a stone-clad rangehood can harmonise beautifully with a matching splashback, adding dimension and depth to the space. Many modern rangehoods feature LED strips that provide effective task lighting, casting a soft glow over the cooking area without being intrusive. This enhances the kitchen’s functionality while contributing to an inviting atmosphere that balances performance and design.
— JESSICA HENWORTH
Rather than hiding behind cabinetry, integrated rangehoods can become striking focal points in the kitchen.
JESSICA HENWORTH
Gone are the days of hiding the rangehood. Designing the rangehood as a focal point has become a popular trend with more and more kitchens transforming it into a statement piece.
Custom rangehoods are handcrafted to a specific size, shape, material, and colour. They are also built with the right specifications for optimal performance.

An energy-efficient dishwasher is a must for anyone aiming to make their home more eco-friendly. These appliances are used regularly, and older or inefficient models can waste large amounts of water and electricity. By choosing a dishwasher with features like low water usage, eco mode, and smart sensors that adjust the cycle based on the load size, you can significantly reduce both your environmental impact and utility bills. Many energy-efficient dishwashers also offer automatic detergent dispensers, which can reduce detergent use by up to 30%.
Refrigerators are some of the biggest energy consumers in our homes, so upgrading to an energy-efficient model is a smart way to boost your home’s efficiency—especially if your current fridge isn’t eco-friendly.
Energy-efficient refrigerators use less electricity, which means lower energy costs and fewer greenhouse gas emissions. When shopping, keep an eye out for models with a high Energy Rating for the best efficiency.
Consider multi-zone fridges, which let you set different temperatures and humidity levels for various compartments. This helps keep food fresh for longer, reducing food waste.
On average, Australians complete 200 to 300 loads of laundry annually, using considerable amounts of water and energy in the process. Upgrading to a modern, energy-efficient washing machine can significantly reduce consumption, helping to lower both your environmental impact and utility bills.
If you’re looking to upgrade, keep an eye out for washing machines with load-sensing technology that adjusts water usage to the size and type of load, ensuring no excess water is used. A steam cycle is another great feature, allowing you to refresh clothes without detergent or a full wash. Automatic detergent dispensers prevent waste by using only what’s needed, extending the life of your clothes and preventing fading over time, while eco wash programs use lower temperatures and longer cycles to cut energy use.
Heat pump dryers are an efficient alternative to traditional models, using lower temperatures and recycling hot air to reduce electricity use by up to 50%. While the upfront cost is higher, the energy savings over time make them a smart investment.
Their gentler drying temperatures help prevent shrinkage and fabric damage, extending the life of your clothes and reducing textile waste. Water collected from the dryer can be reused to water plants.
Some models use steam to further shorten drying times, reduce wrinkles, and eliminate odours, cutting down the need for ironing and harsh chemicals.
A drying cabinet is designed to minimise energy and water consumption by decreasing reliance on traditional washing and dry cleaning methods. You can refresh to revitalise your garments or deodorise to eliminate odors, helping to reduce the frequency of washing and conserve water.
Induction cooktops use electromagnetic induction heat, which means your food only gets hot when you place pots directly on the cooktop. This design prevents energy waste since it heats only the area needed for the pan, rather than the entire surface.
With precise temperature settings, you have better control over your cooking, reducing the chances of overcooking or burning your meals—helping you cut down on food waste.
ZIP and Billi taps are fantastic additions for creating a sustainable home. These all-in-one systems provide filtered, sparkling, and hot water on demand, significantly reducing reliance on single-use plastic bottles by promoting refilling at home and work. By heating water on demand, they cut energy consumption while minimising water waste compared to traditional kettles.

To maximise taste and texture, the mesh design of the AirFryPlus tray allows super-heated air to crisp the surface of food to deliver a mouth-watering fried taste. Steam is added during the cooking process to help retain moisture inside the food, whilst the outside becomes deliciously crisp and golden.
Induction cooktops are easy to clean, quick and many modern designs are easy to integrate into contemporary aesthetics. The 90cm UltimateTaste 900 hybrid gas and induction cooktop is a four-zone hybrid induction with 24MJ/h DualFlame gas wok burner, SenseFry, Bridge zone, PowerBoost and Hob2Hood capability, which is perfect for those preparing many dishes at the same time or cooking for a dinner party.
Column refrigeration, fridge drawers, and beverage centres are setting the standard for a smarter, sleeker kitchen.
BY CLARE RYAN
Modern kitchens are embracing column refrigeration for its perfect blend of functionality and minimalist style. Designed to seamlessly integrate into any kitchen, column refrigeration delivers both practicality and visual appeal. What sets column refrigerators apart is the modular configuration, offering a range of sizes that can be mixed and matched to suit your specific needs. Both Fisher & Paykel and Liebherr’s column refrigeration, are designed with customisation in mind—whether you need a larger fridge module, smaller freezer, or dedicated wine storage, or a combination of all three. The option to include wine storage within the column units not only saves space but adds a touch of sophistication, beautifully showcasing your wine collection. This flexibility means you can create a tailored solution that complements your kitchen layout and culinary needs.
Fridge drawers are redefining kitchen convenience by bringing functionality and organisation to a whole new level. Designed to be easily accessible and integrated within your cabinetry, these drawers enhance the overall workflow of the kitchen. Picture having a fridge drawer near your coffee machine, ready to store your milk, snacks, or breakfast essentials, right where you need them. The Fisher & Paykel 90cm Series 9 Integrated CoolDrawer is a prime example, offering the flexibility to switch between fridge, pantry, and freezer modes with just the push of a button. By seamlessly integrating into your kitchen design, fridge drawers deliver a sleek, clutter-free aesthetic while keeping your essentials within easy reach.
Beverage centres are becoming a must-have feature in modern kitchens, transforming them into multifunctional hubs perfect for both everyday use and entertaining. The dedicated kitchen bar, complete with a beverage centre, offers convenient access to drinks, making hosting easy and effortless. With versatile storage options, these centres can accommodate everything from wine and spirits to mixers and non-alcoholic drinks, while adjustable shelving and precise temperature control ensure each drink is perfectly stored. It’s all about enhancing the experience, and creating a streamlined, sophisticated space that reflects your lifestyle and elevates the overall kitchen design.
A great performance deserves a great stage
BY CLARE RYAN
Principal of JB Interiors, Jodi Balhorn, shares her key insights and considerations for designing a highly efficient kitchen that suits the needs of any household. From clever fridge placement to maximising storage, each tip will help achieve a kitchen that’s practical, stylish and built to last.
If full integration isn’t possible, aim to integrate as many appliances as you can, especially the fridge to prevent dust and crumbs from gathering around the edges. By integrating appliances, you’ll achieve a sleek, cohesive design that transforms the entire look of your kitchen. 1 2
Design the fridge at one end of the kitchen for easy access and to prevent it from disrupting the main cooking areas. It’s frequently used by everyone in the home, so positioning it at the end or in a nearby scullery makes access smoother and more efficient for everyone.
3
Storage is most valuable when it’s designed to be functional. For example, consider an appliance cupboard for items like your toaster and kettle that you can easily use and then hide away. A designated area or cupboard in the scullery for small appliances makes storage practical and maximises space.
Using light, bright materials can make your kitchen feel more spacious. Limit your choice of cabinet and bench materials to two or three for a sleek, uncluttered aesthetic. Layering textures add depth and interest, but simplicity is key for a timeless design.
5 6
Consider positioning the dishwasher, sink, and bin near each other for efficient daily tasks like scraping, washing, and loading dishes. Similarly, place a benchtop near the oven for easy access when moving hot dishes from the oven to counter.
Select materials that resist fingerprints, especially in hightraffic areas like the kitchen. New laminates are available that are fingerprint-resistant ensuring dark surfaces stay looking clean, even in busy households with children.

Kitchen bench dining extensions have become increasingly popular. It’s a highly practical solution for busy households with young children who want to eat in the kitchen without the need to always set the dining table.
Tailor your kitchen lighting to specific tasks. You might need brighter lights over the counter for children to do their homework, or food prep areas. Downlights, strip lighting and concealed lighting under cabinets or kick panels are a great addition, and a dimmer switch can help create a relaxed atmosphere when needed.

The rise of smart appliances is revolutionising the way we manage our homes, particularly in kitchens and laundries.
Smart connected appliances are making it easier than ever to manage meals, even when you’re on the go. With Miele’s Generation 7000 and Siemens IQ700 ovens, you can keep an eye on your dishes in real time through the in-oven camera. So while you’re out on the balcony entertaining guests, you can simply turn off the oven via your smartphone, without missing a moment.
Need to adjust the temperature? Just a tap on your phone does it, or with voice control through Amazon Alexa, you can handle kitchen tasks hands-free. Miele’s TasteControl feature takes it further by automatically opening the oven door at the end of the cooking cycle, preventing overcooking.
Fisher & Paykel’s SmartHQ™ Kitchen Assistant also takes the guesswork out of cooking. With the Wireless Temperature Sensor, you can easily monitor the internal temperature of your dishes from your smartphone. This means you can achieve perfect results every time, whether you’re roasting a tender piece of meat or baking a delicate soufflé. Plus, you’ll receive remote alerts on your smartphone when your food reaches the desired temperature, so you can multitask without worrying about overcooking.
Smart apps allow users to control appliances remotely, making it easier to start cooking or adjust settings without being physically present—think preheating your oven before you arrive home from work. Timers, temperature monitoring, and notifications help ensure that food is cooked properly, reducing the risk of overcooking or burning. Many smart apps come with built-in recipes tailored to specific appliances, guiding users step-by-step for perfect results. Some even remind you when it’s time to clean your oven.
In the laundry, smart appliances continue to impress with their ability to streamline chores. With AEG’s app, you manage washing machines and dryers remotely, set custom wash programs, and receive alerts when your laundry is ready. The Care Advisor feature intelligently selects optimal cycles based on fabric type and soil level, ensuring your clothes are well cared for.
Connecting your appliances also allows for remote service issue resolutions, minimising disruptions to your routine. With compatible devices, you can also enjoy updates through platforms like Fisher & Paykel’s SmartHQ™, granting you access to new cycles and modes without the need to upgrade your appliances. Plus, if you have any questions, instruction manuals are readily available for easy reference, making laundry day simpler and more efficient than ever.

PROJECT Robinson Street
IMAGE Jody D’Arcy
Materiality takes centre stage in the Robinson Street kitchen by Jess O’Shea Designs, where rich colours, textures, and thoughtful design elements create a space full of depth and elegance. Part of a complete home renovation, this kitchen transformation was about more than just upgrading the old, dark, and dysfunctional space. It aimed to encourage social interaction as well as dramatically increasing natural light into the area. Working with builder WD Harris, Jess O’Shea Designs crafted a breathtaking kitchen featuring a CDK Rosso Trentino marble benchtop and splashback. The warmth of the wood cabinetry complements the striking marble, while the rangehood, clad in Laminex brushed brass metallic melamine with a pure matt finish, stands out as a design hero. Each element, from integrated appliances to sleek brass accents, enhances both style and function.

What was once a small, outdated kitchen with limited storage and minimal natural light, is now a striking, spacious kitchen filled with clever storage solutions and an abundance of natural light. The brief was to design a space that encouraged social integration and embraced the client’s love of colour. To optimise the kitchen space, the design integrated a fridge and freezer, ensuring a
seamless aesthetic. The inclusion of column appliances further contributed to a cohesive look. Additionally, levelling the rear area including the alfresco with concrete significantly expanded the overall space, enhancing the functionality and flow of the design. Timeless limestone tiles were chosen for their exceptional thermal mass, low toxicity and recyclability. Air conditioning vents were skilfully integrated into the top of the cabinetry, providing comfort while maintaining the aesthetic appeal, ultimately resulting in a stunning and functional kitchen.

Karijini House draws its inspiration from the grandeur and tranquillity of Karijini National Park, with its design reflecting the natural beauty of the landscape. The home’s heart is the kitchen, designed by Tenille Teakle, featuring benchtops by Jack Flanagan, which anchor the entire layout. A striking nine-metre waterfall skylight above the rear bench, floods the space with natural light, allowing for an uninterrupted open connection to the outdoors. Incorporating the boulder as a support for one end of the island bench was a unique challenge, due to its weight of nearly one tonne. It had to be craned into place over a year before the joinery arrived. As a natural design element, precise planning was required to ensure the seamless integration of the benchtop with the boulder on site. Rammed earth walls, organic tones of bronze and sand, and thoughtful details like discreet in-bench storage, ensure a clean, intuitive aesthetic. Integrated appliances allow for uninterrupted sightlines, while custom features blend functionality and refined simplicity, making the kitchen as versatile as it is beautiful. louishomes.com.au

We’re Happy to Help when life happens, with uncomplicated appliances that allow you to get back on with life. From ovens to fridges and washing machines, our products are always working humbly in the background to make your life easier.
Behind the scenes of every kitchen lies an unsung hero – the rangehood. Much more than just a kitchen appliance; they’re an essential component of any cooking space.
Your rangehood’s primary purpose is to whisk away cooking by-products to keep your environment clean, fresh and hygienic. Of course, if you’ve ever dealt with a loud and inefficient rangehood, you’ll know that not every rangehood is created equal when it comes to performing this basic function. Investing in a quality rangehood can be the difference between a truly exceptional cooking experience – or struggling with lingering odours, smoke, and sticky grease infiltrating your home.
In this guide, we’ll explore the variety of different rangehood options on offer and provide insight into what you should consider before you go shopping.
Downdrafts are a modern kitchen design trend that seamlessly blend functionality and style, making them perfect for island bench configurations. These hoods are discreetly concealed within your benchtop, ensuring they don’t block or spoil your view. Some models elevate above the countertop, while others are integrated directly into the cooktop, efficiently drawing away fumes without obstruction. This integration maximises bench space and enhances your kitchen’s aesthetic, promoting an interactive cooking experience that allows you to socialise with guests while preparing delicious meals.
Undermount rangehoods are built into cabinetry, blending seamlessly with the overall design. They can be concealed behind cabinet doors or designed to match the aesthetics with creative finishes, such as stone, timber, or tiles. The cladding trend allows for creative designs, including custom shapes or textures that add visual interest. Consideration should be given to deeper cupboards of 400mm and a clearance of 750mm from the induction cooktop.
Classic and island canopy rangehoods remain a popular choice in modern kitchens. The classic canopy, an economical option, is specifically designed to be mounted against a wall, while the island canopy is tailored for kitchens with an island bench.
Ceiling cassettes are crafted to seamlessly blend with the ceiling or bulkhead, ensuring an unobstructed view over your kitchen island. Their sleek, modern design provides a clean, minimalist look that enhances the overall style of the kitchen. They also effectively ventilate large cooking areas, capturing smoke, odours, and grease.
Before selecting a rangehood, it’s crucial to assess the number of appliances in your kitchen and determine the exit point for the extracted air. Kitchens with limited natural ventilation, indoor grilling, or wokstyle cooking appliances may require a more powerful rangehood to ensure effective and thorough ventilation.
Rangehood noise levels can differ significantly. We recommend checking the decibel rating of your selected rangehood before making your purchase. Consider purchasing an external motor model to reduce internal noise.
When a standard rangehood doesn’t meet the demands of your kitchen or alfresco space, then a custom-designed solution is the answer. Australian-made Qasair, offers the flexibility to create rangehoods of virtually any size, shape, colour, or power level.
Proper installation of range hoods with the appropriate ducting is essential for minimising noise and ensuring the efficient removal of cooking by-products from your home.

Schweigen Silent Rangehoods are key to maintaining a healthier home environment. Equipped with the Germanmade Isodrive® motor, externally mounted for silent operation, these rangehoods effectively remove cooking fumes, grease, and excess moisture. Proper ventilation is vital to eliminating airborne pollutants and reducing mould risks, both of which can negatively impact respiratory health. Schweigen’s powerful Isodrive® motor ensures optimal performance without disturbing the peace of your home. By improving indoor air quality and preventing the buildup of harmful particles, Schweigen Silent Rangehoods make your home not just quieter, but healthier too.
Powered by the German-made Isodrive® motor, Schweigen Silent Rangehoods offer silent performance, transforming your kitchen into a peaceful haven. With no disruptive noise, you can enjoy conversations, relax, and savor meals in comfort, making your home a more enjoyable and serene place to be.
Schweigen Silent Rangehoods are crafted with a minimalist design, allowing them to blend seamlessly into your kitchen. Their sleek, discreet appearance ensures that the focus remains on your kitchen’s design while still providing powerful, silent ventilation. With Schweigen, your kitchen’s aesthetic can truly shine, without compromise.
Cooking is the leading cause of house fires, with around 40% starting in the kitchen. Schweigen Silent Rangehoods help prevent this by using fireproof SteelFlex™ ducting and BAL-40 rated external motors, providing an added layer of protection. These safety features offer peace of mind, ensuring your home is better safeguarded.
The Isodrive® motor is a highly efficient, German-made centrifugal motor. Consuming only 62 watts of power, it’s significantly more energy-efficient than traditional rangehoods, which typically use 300 watts . Its external design allows it to simply draw and expel dirty air directly to the outside, unlike standard rangehoods that pull then push the air through internal motors and ducting. This reduces energy consumption, enhances performance, and ensures quiet, powerful ventilation.
Schweigen products are built to last, with the Isodrive® motor backed by a 10-year warranty, ensuring long-term reliability. The rangehood itself comes with a 5-year warranty, while components like the SteelFlex™ ducting, GU10 LED globes, and filters feature a lifetime warranty. This commitment to durability guarantees enduring performance and peace of mind.

Western Australian lamb, renowned for its tenderness, rich flavour, and superior quality, is a favourite among chefs and home cooks alike. To explore the art of roasting this exquisite meat, we sat down with Vince Garreffa— a celebrated butcher and passionate philanthropist. With decades of experience, Vince is a trusted advocate for Australian farmers and independent butchers, championing quality and flavour in the local food industry. During our conversation, he generously shared his expert insights on how to roast lamb to perfection.
“Lamb is my absolute favourite,” Vince Garreffa declares with enthusiasm. “If there’s one thing Australia is famous for, it’s lamb. Nowhere else in the world comes close to the quality of ours.”
When it comes to choosing the ideal cut, Vince recommends the loin, leg, or shoulder for their tenderness and flavour. For roasting, he explains, it all depends on your goal: “The shoulder is what you show off when you’re trying to do something that’s really well cooked, and the leg of lamb is what you serve when you really want to show off a medium-rare presentation.”
When choosing any cut of meat, you should shop with your eyes. “A good piece of meat is usually really attractive. If it’s looking dull and boring, it’s probably going to cook up the same,” Vince says. “Look at the amount of fat. A good piece of meat has good fat and marbling running through it.”
Vince recommends taking the meat out of the fridge two hours before roasting to ensure even cooking. He also advises seasoning after the first hour but warns that salting lean meats too early can draw out moisture.
For maximum flavour, Vince suggests poking holes in the meat and stuffing it with your favourite ingredients. He often uses rosemary and garlic, then rubs the lamb with extra virgin olive oil to create the perfect surface for salt to stick to. He suggests saving the pepper for the table and grating it fresh to preserve its flavour.
4/
For a quick weeknight roast, Vince suggests cooking at 180°C. For more tender results, he opts for a slower roast at 120°C for six hours or 75°C for 12 hours. “At 75, it cooks to perfection, but it is still sliceable and holds together,” he notes. For melt-in-your-mouth pulled meat texture, he recommends 85°C. He also advises pan-frying lean cuts on high heat for 10 minutes before roasting to seal in juices.

Using a meat thermometer is key to ensuring perfect results. To get an accurate reading, you should ensure the probe is placed in the thickest part of the roast. Vince advises aiming for 45-55°C for rare, 60°C (rising to 65°C while resting) for medium, and 70°C for well-done lamb.
Once cooked, allow the lamb to rest. Vince recommends resting larger cuts for 20-30 minutes to retain moisture.
Vince suggests balancing lamb’s richness with lighter, seasonal sides like roasted vegetables or fresh salads. He also emphasises the importance of using what’s fresh and in season for optimal flavour.
Hosting a special occasion or just bringing friends together?
Keep it simple and flavourful with these crowd-pleasing sharing recipes from Hart & Co.’s Cooking Appliance Educator, Margaret Roberts. Indulge in creamy burrata, tender roasted lamb, and an array of beautifully roasted vegetables. And for the grand finale, serve a mouthwatering apple tatin for dessert!
INGREDIENTS
100 g frozen peas, defrosted
2 bunches asparagus, woody ends trimmed
2 handfuls rocket (arugula)
1 handful fresh basil leaves
1 handful fresh mint leaves
Pinch of sea salt flakes
Zest of half a lemon
1 burrata, approximately 150 g
Salad Dressing
5 tablespoons olive oil
Juice of the zested lemon
Approximately 3 teaspoons honey
Salt to taste (test for balance and adjust if needed)
METHOD
1. Place the asparagus in a preheated steam oven at 100°C for just one minute.
2. In a bowl, combine the cooled asparagus, rocket, peas, and herbs. Mix in the dressing to coat everything evenly, then season with good-quality sea salt flakes.
3. Transfer the dressed salad to a lovely platter (I personally love a blue and white platter!).
4. Place the burrata in the centre and pierce it just before serving. Top with lemon zest and pangrattato.
PANGRATTATO INGREDIENTS
6 slices ciabatta bread
25 g Parmesan cheese
25 ml olive oil
Pinch of sea salt flakes
METHOD
1. Blitz all ingredients in a food processor until the mixture resembles chunky breadcrumbs.
2. Spread on a lined baking tray and place in a 180°C oven for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until golden in colour.
3. Leave on the tray to cool, then store in an airtight container.
COOK’S NOTE
To enjoy the full flavour of Burrata, serve this cheese at room temperature. Pangrattato can also be used as a delicious, crunchy topping for pasta and risotto dishes.
INGREDIENTS
2 kg leg of lamb
3 tbsp olive oil
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tbsp dried oregano, plus extra for potatoes
1 tbsp dried fennel seeds
2 tsp sea salt flakes
1 lemon, zested and juiced
2 sprigs rosemary, finely chopped
10 whole potatoes, lightly oiled, coated with oregano leaves, and seasoned with sea salt
Salsa Verde
1 cup flat-leaf parsley, washed and lightly dried
1 cup mint leaves, washed and lightly dried
1 tbsp capers, rinsed
1 tsp mixed grain mustard
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
5 tbsp olive oil
METHOD
1. Blitz all salsa verde ingredients in a blender until the desired consistency is achieved. Season with salt to taste.
2. Preheat the oven to 230°C.
3. Place the prepared lamb in a deep roasting dish.
4. Insert the lamb into the preheated oven and sear for approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
5. Place the prepared potatoes around the lamb.
6. Insert a meat probe into the lamb, reduce the oven temperature to 185°C and set it to medium steam (if available). Aim for a core temperature of 54°C.
7. Once the core temperature is reached, remove the dish from the oven and allow the lamb to rest for approximately 10 minutes.
8. Carve the lamb and serve with the potatoes and salsa verde.
COOK’S NOTE
For a more rustic sauce, combine the salsa verde ingredients in a mortar and pestle.
INGREDIENTS
1 small eggplant, cubed
2 red capsicums, sliced
1 small sweet potato, cubed
1 red onion, sliced
Mixed Italian dried herbs
3 cloves garlic, minced
Quality sea salt flakes
Pepper
Olive oil (for drizzling)
Fresh parsley and basil, chopped, for serving
1. Preheat the oven to 190°C (fan forced).
2. Place all prepared vegetables on a lined baking tray. Drizzle with a generous splash of olive oil and sprinkle with mixed herbs. Season with sea salt and pepper.
3. Place in the preheated oven on shelf 3 and cook for approximately 45 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and golden.
4. Once cooked, season with fresh parsley and basil before serving.
COOK’S NOTES
For additional flavour, add some pesto and mix it in with the vegetables. Arrange vegetables in a single layer; don’t overcrowd your tray to ensure even cooking. For extra caramelisation, place the tray under the grill. The fan grill function is your best friend when you want added crispiness.
1 sheet Empire puff pastry
100 g raw caster sugar
90 g unsalted butter, chilled and diced
4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, halved and cored
1- 2 tsp cinnamon
Good quality vanilla ice-cream to serve, or a crème anglaise
1. Pre-heat oven 200°C, function: bottom heat and fan heat.
2. Sprinkle sugar over a 20 cm ovenproof fry pan, or tarte tatin dish, then place cubed butter on top of sugar.
3. Place apples cut side up in pan.
4. Cut a 24 cm circle of puff pastry, using a plate as a guide.
5. Drape pastry over apples, tucking excess pastry under.
6. Prick pastry with a fork.
7. Place in pan in pre-heated oven on level 1, (level closest to the base of oven).
8. Bake for approx, 25-30 minutes, or until pastry is puffed and golden brown.
9. Remove from oven, carefully, using oven mitts, remembering pan handle will be hot!
10. Allow to sit in pan for a few minutes.
11. Then carefully turn onto a larger plate.
12. Allow tart to rest for 5 minutes, before serving with your favourite vanilla ice cream or home made crème anglaise.
A very handy way to cook a tarte tatin in the oven. No extra cooking required on the cooktop, to create the caramel element. Another great way to utilise specific oven functions, to create a chef-style dish with minimum effort. You can also use pears as an alternative.

Western Australia boasts some of the finest fresh produce in the world, from sumptuous truffles to farm fresh lamb and artisanal cheeses. With such a rich bounty, we’re truly spoiled for choice. Here, we invite you to explore a selection of our favourite local producers, each offering a unique taste of the region.
Dominic Hurst loves a good sandwich and he loves pickling – that’s how award-winning The Mulberry Pig was born. Working as a chef, Dom discovered his love for preserving fresh produce, enjoying the slower, hands-on process of pickling. Now he has curated a delightful range of pickles, relishes, jams and all good things that go onto a sandwich. Passionate about reducing food waste, Dom sources seasonal ingredients directly from local farmers, often using misfit and overripe produce that might otherwise go to waste, and the food scraps from his kitchen go straight back into the backyard compost, which he uses to grow the fresh herbs for his cooking. “Using ingredients at the peak of the season, we can see the flavours and freshness in the finished product,” he says. You can find The Mulberry Pig products at local markets, or you can purchase them directly from his website. themulberrypig.com
Pieter Lottering and his cousin Charl Brink knew maintaining the legacy of HaVe Cheese would be important when they took it over from founders Robert and Penny Duke. “It’s a brand people love, so we’ll do everything we can to preserve and enhance it,” Pieter says. They were looking for a local business with a strong identity and the timing was right for everyone for this transition. Pieter’s son Kael has trained as a cheesemaker and Pieter’s parents are also involved, and together this family is excited to shape the next chapter of HaVe Cheese. This includes building on their business by developing Duke’s Distillery and creating WA’s premier cheese destination. In the meantime, you will find a list of HaVe Cheese stockists on their website. harveycheese.com.au
When Graeme Howie experienced the unparalleled flavour of Dorper lamb for the first time, it transformed his life. Now almost twenty years on, Dorper Lamb Pty Ltd, established by Graeme alongside his wife Nina, is a true paddock-to-plate operation, working with local sustainable farming families to provide this tasty meat to you. “Good farmers always look after their animals”, Graeme tells us, a principle at the heart of the business.
The Dorper breed is not only great tasting, it’s a low-maintenance, fast-growing sheep that thrives in a range of conditions, making it a preferred breed for lamb production. To reduce waste, Graeme’s team uses the strong, blemish-free sheep leather to craft beautiful boots. In fact, the leather is so good, luxury brands like Chanel, Hermes and Louis Vuitton use it for their handbags. dorperlamb.com.au

He also recently released his 23rd annual WA Wine Review. Here is a selection of Ray’s top West Australian wines to sample or cellar this season.
Score 96/100 | Cellar 15 years | RRP $40
An impressive cabernet sauvignon from a season which produced wines of power and volume with a firm structure. This is all of that. The typical blackcurrant aromas are augmented with sweet plummy nuances. The palate is tightly framed with firm tannins and a decent oak influence from the 40% new French oak contribution. The colour is bright and almost luminous. A wine of energy and vibrancy. If you are looking for great value in cellaring then this baby is right on the mark.

Score 95/100 | Cellar 3 years | RRP $30
This has leapfrogged right to the top of Australia’s best roses. It’s made from sangiovese, a variety that suits rose styles. Exotic floral aromas with a mix of cranberry and pomegranate. The palate is textured and light with a beautiful fine and delicate acid providing definition. Lovely light red berry fruits on the palate. This might just be the best of these yet released. singlefilewines.com
Score 98/100 | Cellar 10 years | RRP $100
An outstanding chardonnay comes from the Allingham vineyard in the cool Karridale subregion. It is so exquisitely integrated and woven together with such subtlety and precision. It gets down to each barrel where decisions are made on malolactic fermentation and the degree of lees stirring. The result is a marvellous wine displaying freshness and vibrancy with typical notes of citrus, grapefruit and white peach permeating throughout. Has a dry savoury minerality to finish—exceptional wine.

Score 96/100 | Cellar 20 years | RRP $55
Lightly perfumed and delightful aromas of lime and light talc. It was a very good year, and it was a late season allowing the fruit to build up easily. It’s stainless steel fermented but has an extended time on lees. The palate is the key. It’s powerful with texture and talcy threads with liberal spices. It has a slightly limey saline finish, It’s a small product wine. Very sea-spray-like. These are from the original plantings in 1965. foresthillwines.com.au
Many people think you have to spend a lot of money on wines for the cellar. You don’t. Some excellent wines that sell for as little as $30 can do very nicely with a few years of bottle age. Sure, some wines can last for decades, but who has that long on this mortal coil? I like to choose wines that will develop within 10 years. The best thing is that once you have chosen your wine, buy, maybe six bottles, so you can check them periodically. And make sure you keep them safe and cool. A wine fridge is a great investment if you are serious about your wines.

Before starting your outdoor kitchen adventure, it’s a good idea to consult a specialist who understands exactly what’s involved.
Before you go shopping for your new outdoor kitchen, you should assess the space you have available, as this will dictate the feasibility of different kitchen configurations.
Outdoor kitchens can come in many different shapes and sizes. When planning your space, consider which layouts will work in your space and best suit your needs.
• Along One Wall: With this layout, all your cooking and prep zones are concentrated along a single wall, allowing you to maximise space for other outdoor activities. It’s a practical choice for homeowners with limited square footage who still want the convenience of an outdoor kitchen.
• L-Shaped: This design provides additional counter space and storage, allowing for better organisation and more room to prepare and serve meals.
• U-Shaped: The “U-shaped” layout offers an abundance of counter space, storage, and a well-defined, spacious cooking area. Ideal for homeowners who take outdoor entertaining seriously, this layout accommodates multiple work zones, allowing for efficient food preparation and cooking.
In coastal areas or near the beach, the salty air can be harsh on outdoor kitchen appliances. That’s where “Marine Grade” features come into play, offering durable, corrosion-resistant options for rangehoods, BBQs, and other equipment. This ensures that your outdoor kitchen remains both functional and visually appealing, even in the harshest coastal environments.
With a bewildering choice of BBQs on offer, choosing the right one for your outdoor kitchen can be difficult. That’s where an appliance specialist can help you determine the right appliance for your outdoor kitchen.
There are also strict protocols for barbeques located within alfresco spaces that are more than half enclosed. You’ll need
a BBQ that is certified for indoor use and installed by a qualified gasfitter; otherwise, prepare to take the heat from your local authority.
Other considerations are BBQ size and if you want your BBQ built into a bench or outdoor kitchen centre.
If you’re a serious outdoors-kind-of-chef, you can elevate your cooking by adding a wok-burner or teppanyaki plate. Infra-red rotisserie, the latest feature in BBQs, maintains tenderness via the meat’s self-basting action as the rotisserie turns.
Beyond the BBQ, thoughtful planning should also extend to the inclusion of amenities like sinks, taps, refrigeration, and storage, as these elements significantly enhance the functionality of the outdoor kitchen.
One of the most crucial things you should consider is air quality. In semi-enclosed spaces, smoke, grease and odours may ruin your enjoyment of your outdoor kitchen. That’s where rangehoods come in. If your outdoor living space is more than 50% enclosed, then by law a rangehood must be installed.
Rangehoods designed for outdoor use have a more powerful exhaust system that effectively captures grease, smoke, heat and oils and improves air quality.
Ensure you check that your rangehood height above your barbeque complies to Australian standards.
There may also be a requirement to install an interlocker that automatically turns on the rangehood when you fire up the BBQ. Ensuring that rangehoods and extraction systems are interlocked with the gas supply not only enhances safety but also optimises the functionality of your outdoor kitchen
Incorporating a well-appointed beverage centre into your outdoor kitchen brings an additional dimension of convenience and sophistication to your space. Beverage centres offer a seamless solution for storing and accessing a range of beverages, from chilled wines to craft beers, ensuring that refreshment is always within reach.
Consult an expert about outdoor kitchen design solutions. With predefined modules available, outdoor kitchen packages are simple to install and can also be custom designed with different options available to suit your space.

Laundry doesn’t have to be a dreaded chore anymore. With the latest advancements in laundry technology, doing your laundry can be a breeze. This comprehensive buying guide, delves into the world of innovative laundry solutions, focusing on front-loading washing machines, heat pump dryers, and heat pump drying cabinets. These cutting-edge appliances not only streamline your laundry routine but also offer a host of benefits that make laundry tasks much more manageable.
Front-loading washing machines have revolutionised the way we clean our clothes. Their horizontal drum orientation not only conserves water but also provides superior cleaning performance. By using less water and detergent, they contribute to cost savings and environmental conservation. Additionally, their spacious drum size allows for larger loads, saving you time and energy. Here are some key features to keep in mind:
The latest front loaders are more energy-efficient than ever before. When making your choice, look for models with a high Energy Rating. This not only saves you money in the long run but also reduces your environmental footprint. Thanks to advanced technology, these machines are designed to use less water and electricity.
Capacity
Consider the size of your household. The latest front loaders offer a range of drum capacities, ensuring that you can find one that suits your family’s laundry needs. Larger drums can accommodate bigger loads, but make sure the machine fits comfortably in your laundry space without crowding.
Modern front loaders often come with Wi-Fi connectivity and apps, allowing you to monitor and control your machine remotely.
Washing Cycles
Most models offer a wide variety of speciality cycles to suit your specific needs. Delicates, woollens, stains, silks, handwash, allergy and sanitise cycles to name a few.
Autodose
Automatic detergent dispensing measures the precise amount needed per load, reducing waste and preventing buildup that can cause skin irritation, fabric damage, and fading. This feature optimises usage, benefiting both your clothes and the environment.
Steam Cycle
Washers with a steam cycle can swiftly and effectively refresh and revive garments without the need for detergent or a full wash cycle. Additionally, steam reduces wrinkles, minimising the need for ironing, and effectively eliminates odours. Some models even feature a mode as a chemical-free alternative to dry cleaning.
Load Sensing
Sensors automatically adjust the water and energy use based on the size and type of load, optimising performance and efficiency.
Heat pump dryers, another marvel of laundry technology, have transformed the drying process. Unlike traditional dryers, heat pump dryers utilise innovative heat exchange technology, making them incredibly energy-efficient. They recirculate warm air, ensuring gentle and precise drying at lower temperatures. This not only helps preserve the quality of your garments but also saves on your energy bills in the long run. Here’s why they are an excellent choice:
Energy Efficiency
Heat pump dryers are significantly more energyefficient than traditional dryers, as they recycle heat.
Gentle on Fabrics
Heat pump dryers use lower temperatures and a unique drying process that is gentler on your clothes. This reduces wear and tear on fabrics, making it an ideal choice for delicate garments and extending the lifespan of your clothing.
Large Capacity
Heat pump dryers come in various sizes to meet the needs of different households.
Specialised Cycles
Some models now include specialised cycles for various fabric types, such as wool, silk, sportswear and shoes, ensuring optimal care for your garments.
Steam in heat pump dryers effectively reduces wrinkles and eliminates odours, making garments look and smell fresh. Additionally, it gently refreshes fabrics, minimising wear and tear while ensuring optimal care for delicate items.
Heat pump drying cabinets are a game-changer in laundry care. They are designed to meet all your clothing and fabric care needs, as there is no mechanical action that can wear your clothes; it’s as close as you can get to drying outdoors. You can dry, refresh, deodorise, and sanitise delicate materials such as silk, wool, leather, coats, suits, shoes, and blankets, along with other items that cannot be treated in a standard tumble dryer.
This gentle approach to drying also dramatically reduces creasing, so you can forget about your clothes needing large amounts of ironing. A drying cabinet also helps eliminate the need for hanging clothes around the house by providing a dedicated, enclosed space for drying garments.
The latest laundry technology has revolutionised the way we approach this essential household task. When shopping for a front-loading washing machine or a heat pump dryer, consider your specific needs and preferences, and select the model that suits you best. With these innovations, you can enjoy cleaner, fresher clothes while reducing your environmental impact and energy consumption.

Transform your laundry into a space that combines functionality with timeless style. Interior designer, Tamlin Prince of Prince Design, shares essential advice for designing a practical and efficient laundry room that remains stylish for years to come.
Everything should have its place. Tamlin recommends incorporating features such as a laundry hamper drawer to keep the space tidy. Ensure there is storage for all of your essentials, such as the iron or dog food, and ample space to keep everything organised and out of sight.
Consider hiding the washing machine and dryer to achieve a seamless look. You can conceal the washing machine behind a door for a clean, integrated appearance. This not only enhances the visual appeal of the space but also helps maintain a streamlined environment. Adding cabinetry or a pocket door can effectively blend these appliances with the rest of the room, making them less obtrusive and more aesthetically pleasing.
Choose benchtop materials wisely, considering both aesthetics and practicality. Dark benchtops can be unforgiving, showing water marks, dust, and lint. Porcelain benchtops are a great choice because they are stainresistant. If your laundry is visible from the kitchen, consider using the same material for a cohesive look. Extending the materials from the kitchen into adjacent laundry areas helps create a unified and visually expansive space.
Plan for current and future devices. Even if you don’t have a robot vacuum or Dyson, plan to accommodate it later with accessible power points. Additionally, an automated ceiling-mounted drying rack can add convenience and versatility to your space. These forward-thinking additions can help keep your laundry room adaptable and organised, ensuring it meets your evolving needs over time.
When setting up a drop zone for kids, protect the walls with tiling to prevent damage from heavy school bags. Create dedicated areas for shoes and sports equipment to keep everything organised. Since the laundry room often serves as a secondary entrance—whether for the primary entrance, walking the dog, or daily comings and goings—it’s a practical spot for these essentials.
Reflect on your daily routines and preferences when designing your laundry. Do you iron in the laundry, or would you rather use another room? Your answer will guide whether you need a built-in pull-out ironing board or space for a freestanding one.
Smart storage is essential, particularly in a small space. By extending cupboards all the way to the ceiling and skipping a bulkhead, you can maximise storage. Think about concealing appliances while also incorporating a cupboard for your broom and vacuum.
