The project will be funded by the Union Ministry of Culture. The site is located in Poh village of Tabo region in Lahaul and Spiti district. The main aim of the project is create an institute that imparts knowledge about buddhist philosphies and preserves the ancient buddhist teachings prevailing in the nearby regions.
To fullfil above mentioned requirement the design is oriented towards cre ating an experience of walking though path of englightenment through their sensory emotions. The campus should teach users the significance of bud dhist philosphies and teachings through experiencing the space itself. Besides this being located in a tough climatic zone, emphasis has been paid on the contextual design making it more sustainable and climate responsive.
It is a live valid project under PWD ( Public Work Department), Himachal Pradesh.
Concept the design is approached by buddhist philoshpy “the four noble truths” which are (i) going through suffering,(ii) cause of suffer ing,(iii) realisation of suffering and finally (iv) moving on path of englightment. The atmosphere is generated through use of materials such as stone and rammed earth, emotio ns through light and shadow and connectivity through various courtyards and bridges.

The spaces are planned in a manner that would require minimum cutting and filling of the contours. The series of spaces are exposed to the users as they move down the slope. All the secondary spaces are placed in the beginning and the core spaces in the end. The concept of “journey of engligthment” is also depicted in the landscape through material choices and plantation. Cactus represents the hardships of life and as you move towards englightenment you are guided by Juniper tree(holy significance) and the Appricot tree ( represents peace and prosperity )

Gradual movement down the slope encourages user to explore more whereas the ones who is already englightened will use the straight path. Light acts as a guide in enclosed corridors and helps one to stay warm during harsh winters. Different levels creates a sense of connectivity amongst the spaces within the campus.

The propsed site is an exisiting slum located on a hill opposite to the main bus stand of the town. The living conditions of the people are very poor and most of them lack basic requirements such as toilets. Most families have sharing bedrooms and kitch ens. The shelters are temporary and have fragile conditions. The design concerns were to create units which are comfortable according to their living standards and daily functions. As the users are migrant labours from Rajasthan empahsis was paid on structure that can be easily dismantled and also evoke a sense of connection with their Rajasthani culture reminding them of their home place.

03. MORNING - EVENING WALK TRAIL Design Solution for Urban Problems in a ward | Academic | 2020
A study was conducted of Nagrota Bagwan (a town in Kangra) to understand the urban layout and issues within the ward number 2. Design solutions were provided to the related problems within the ward.
Most of settlements and expansions in the town started from the National Highway. Commericial buildings are on the peripheries of Highway and Residences are more on the interiors of the town. Due to narrow roads, traffic and unsafety of pedestrians is the main issue within the whole town.
PROJECT TYPE Urban Design LOCATION Nagrota Bagwan,Kangra, Himachal Pradesh
The ward shares boundaries with Baladhar road and is quite off set from the National Highway. The settlement in the ward started around the farmlands but with increase in urbanisation the built is penetrating into the farmlands. The increasing settlements and new constructions are taking away the ver nacular essence of the ward. Besides this because of unplanned expansion there are less empashis on the recreational areas within the ward and it lacks any such spaces for the community.

The buisiest road networks are on the exteriors of the wards and the mediumly active streets are on the interior while the least busy networks are are in further interiors of the ward.

Urban setup is rich with residential buildings , the future scope of residential zone into the agrculture zones will lead to more urban growth

Due to lack of expansion oppurtunities within the ward a morning - evening walk trail is proposed in the exist ing urban fabric. The interior streets are used for walking trails, restricting movements of any four wheelers. It will imrpove the pedestrian experience while also act as a recreational activity for the residents. The trail will also consist of an open gym park and food courts on the potential future activity node.
To protect the vernacular buildings within the ward a heritage walk trail has been incorporated within the pro posed trail which will create sensibility towards protection of old constuctions.

04. RAANI KA TALAAB ( RUINED KANGRA FORT) Mission Amrit Sarovar : Jal Dharohar Sanrakshan| Internship / Competetion | 2022
Kangra Fort, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh
PROJECT TYPE Adaptive Re-use
It is a project under Govt. of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affiars where a team had to document the water bodies associated with the heritage buildings and give some proposals.
Kangra fort is located in Kangra region of Himachal Pradesh and the water body i.e . Raani ka Talaab is located on the outskirts of the fort. Various studies were done about the water body and its importance within the region in present as well as past. The connection of drainage in fort and the water body, the type of footfall, the types of open spaces etc.
LOCATION
The water body was located in the dense wild forest and was once used to hide the treasures of the kingdom. The pathway connecting the water body in itself has a character and essence and it was also documented fully. The water body is currently closed for locals and the wild life is dependent on it. The proposal was such that the water body can be opened for the visitors with minimum intruisions to the bio-diversity. The level of permeability will be limited for the users without hampering the wild life.

The Water body
Character of the Pathway
The drains were such that the rain water collected and exposed into the water body through inlet. The materials used are sand stone and lime mortar mixed with surkhi.
The pathway connecting to the water body has its own essence as you walk through it you get to experince and sense different feelings which indeed play a great role in giving character to the pathway. There are various vegition that are medicinal, some have their own smell and some have their folliage and impact. In some instances you get to experience the view of nearby land marks while in some you are compeletly en gaging with the wild forest.
The carvings in water body justifies its religious importance
