The studio focuses on material-driven design by constructing a student center as a bridge at MSU Baroda, connecting its academic and sports sides. Each student was assigned a material to shape the structure, exploring its structural and spatial potential while integrating spaces like a library, canteen and other student amenities.

The idea was to explore different types of roof possible in stone to create spaces with different volumes and spatial characters. Colonnades and courtyards were used to create a balance of closed and semi-open spaces.

The studio challenges us to design an extension for the Nirma School of Architecture, addressing its growing intake and evolving pedagogy. Beyond creating spaces like studios, workshops, and exhibition areas, we had to consider how learning would take place—how pedagogy would shape interactions, creativity, and knowledge exchange. The design must balance open, semi-open, and enclosed spaces to foster both collaboration and focused learning while ensuring adaptability for future academic needs.

Section through Ramp

The ramp from the entrance leads us to the first floor level which houses all the main functions. The ground floor is left open for exhibition and spillover spaces.

Section through Workshop

The volumes were altered in such a way that it creates an opportunity for interaction between different functions and levels.

Working Drawing

The institution project is currently being developed in working drawing studio with a focus on functionality, structure and construction. The drawings are in progress and subject to further development.

“The brise-soleil is not an architectural gesture; it is a necessity.” – Le Corbusier

The iconic “brise-soleil” shields the west and south facade from harsh Ahmedabad sun. Acting as an external skin it creates a buffer between inisde and outside.

Staircase as a Monument

Following the lines of Corbusier the staircase is developed as an monument itself. Standing at the centre of the courtyard it will act as the main connection between levels. Ground Floor

The studio aimed to design adaptable mass housing in Thaltej Gam, a rapidly developing area. With Ahmedabad’s growth and high FSI regulations driving vertical expansion, housing must balance affordability, sustainability, and efficiency. Our challenge was to create flexible homes that accommodate diverse residents, ensuring an inclusive and responsive urban environment.

system

Containing the Core

The idea around developing the units was to contain all the services and circulation inside a central core. The living spaces were designed in standardised modules around it. This gives user varying options to craft their own house according to their needs from the kit of parts.

The staggering of units has been done in such a way that it results in breathing spaces which can be used privately or by the community.

LeapWood is a sling chair crafted from acacia wood with a walnut stain finish. Its frame is built using mortise and tenon joinery, ensuring durability and strength. The seat is a suspended sling made of fabric or leather, allowing flexibility and comfort. The chair’s structure is designed with clean, angled wooden elements that provide stability while supporting the natural recline of the sling. environment.
