As students enter Shell, they embark on the next phase of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) at Harrow New York. Studentscontinuetheir explorationofvisualand performingarts,including drama,music,drawing,and painting.ThroughtheMYP Artsframework,they developcreativeskills, reflectonartisticexpression, andanalyzeworksin differentculturaland historicalcontexts.

TheMYPDesign curriculuminShell introducesstudentsto problem-solvingthrough innovation,coding,andthe responsibleuseof technology.Studentswork throughtheMYPDesign Cycle,developingtheir abilitytoanalyze,create, andevaluatesolutionsin real-worldcontexts.

FOUNDATIONS OF LEARNING AND KNOWLEDGE

Thiscourseisdesignedtodevelopstudents'awarenessofhow knowledgeisconstructedandevaluatedbycommunitiesandindividuals acrossacademicdisciplinesinadiverserangeofglobalcontexts.The goalsforthecourseareforstudentsto: developadeeperunderstandingoflearningskillsandapplythemin meaningfulcontexts; integrateconceptuallearning,waysofknowing,andmethodsof inquiringfrommultipledisciplines; experiencetheexcitementofintellectualdiscovery-including insightsintohowareasofknowledgecomplementandchallenge eachother; experienceambiguity,uncertainty,andquestionswithmultiple plausibleanswers; effectivelynavigateandmakesenseoftheworld,andhelpprepare themtoencounternovelandcomplexsituations;and experiencemultipleperspectives,fosteropen-mindedness,and developinterculturalunderstanding.

LANGUAGE AQUISITION

StudentscontinuetheirstudyofMandarin,FrenchorSpanish, progressingintheirproficiencyinspeaking,listening,reading,and writing.TheMYPLanguageAcquisitionframeworksupportsstudents indevelopinginterculturalawarenessandeffectivecommunicationin multiplelinguisticcontexts.

MATHEMATICS PHYSICAL & HEALTH EDUCATION

TheShellMathematics curriculumfollowstheMYP approach,focusingonconceptual understandingandproblemsolving.Topicsincludealgebra, geometry,datahandling,andrealworldapplications,ensuring studentsdevelopstronganalytical andreasoningskills.

Students engage in a dynamic Physical and Health Education program that integrates fitness, sportsmanship, and health literacy. The MYP PHE curriculum emphasizes holistic well-being, personal goal-setting, and teamwork, preparing students for lifelong physical and mental wellness.
