The School and Community Harrow International School Bangkok is one of a family of eight schools; Harrow School (London), John Lyon School (London), and the Harrow International Schools (Bangkok, Beijing, Haikou, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong). Links between the schools are strong, as demonstrated by a shared Board of Governors and staff movement within the group. We are a co-educational day and boarding school providing a British style independent boarding school experience, in English, in an Asian context at our state-of-the-art campus in north Bangkok. There is a strong pastoral focus in the school through its House system. The curriculum is taught in English.
Our Values We define ‘Education Excellence for Life and Leadership’ through six leadership attributes which are embedded into all aspects of school life.

OXFORD INTERNATIONAL AQA EXAMINATIONS
Harrow International School Bangkok School Profile 2020-2021 IGCSE courses are taught to students between the ages of 14-16 (Years 10 & 11). Students choose a range of subjects whilst continuing to study English, Maths and Science. At the end of Year 11 (aged 16), students sit external IGCSE examinations. Students will typically complete eight IGCSE courses. Very able students may complete one or two additional IGCSE courses.
IGCSE Subjects
Early Years: 201 Pre Prep: 484 Prep: 320 Senior School: 590 Graduating Class 111 Grade designations follow the British school system (Year 10 = Grade 9; Year 11 = Grade 10; Year 12 = Grade 11; Year 13 = Grade 12)
Predicted Grades Predicted A Level grades indicate a student’s expected final outcome in a course. They are based on ongoing academic performance, a teacher’s knowledge of the curriculum and assessment criteria, and student performance in standardised trial examinations.
Class Rank & GPA Harrow Bangkok does not rank students or calculate GPA for students. There is no appropriate system that would effectively reflect the grading system of the IGCSE and A Levels to a GPA.
Reporting System Harrow Bangkok employs a progressive grading philosophy. Report grades reflect current attainment against the overall programme grading criteria. Grades are expected to increase as students progress to the culmination of their courses. There is no weighting of grades. AS and A Level courses are graded on an A*-E scale.
Discipline Policy Harrow Bangkok will report serious disciplinary infringements to universities upon request.
Academic Calendar Our school year is 180 days, running from mid-August to the end of June, divided into three terms.
AS (Advanced Subsidiary) and A (Advanced) Levels
School Closure In line with Thai government directives, The Harrow Bangkok campus was closed to staff and students from March to June. During much of this time, the city of Bangkok was under a strict lockdown with a national curfew and restriction of movement.

Whilst online education provision was made available to all students, a number of students faced technical issues with accessing some of the material. Some students faced mental health, personal and/or environmental challenges during this period which affected their ability to fully access the curriculum.

In Sixth Form (Years 12 & and 13), students complete their A Level courses. Advanced Level courses are subject based qualifications which are externally assessed by approved examination boards. Students can study up to AS Level and receive credit, or continue to complete full A Levels. Students will typically study four AS courses, sitting external examinations at the end of Year 13. The majority of students will continue on to complete three full A Levels, sitting external examinations at the end of Year 13. In addition, students have additional curriculum time for Physical Education, pastoral tutorials and extended learning courses.

Return to School The Thai government allowed us a ‘soft opening’ for two weeks in June with limited numbers of students in school each day, and strict social distancing measures and restrictions in place. This allowed for some of our rising senior class to come into school for five days during which time we explored higher education options and university application processes. For students unable to come on site, the same support was offered online.

Although school is now open, the Thai borders remain very tightly controlled so most boarders suffered delays when returning to school, and some have still not yet been able to return. Of those students who have been able to return to Thailand, they had to ensure a strict two state quarantine.
Cancellation of Exams All IGCSE, AS and A Level external examinations were cancelled in the June 2020 series. Instead students were awarded Centre Assessed Grades (CAGs). Harrow Bangkok implemented a strong policy to guide the awarding of these grades based on carefully moderated evidence that was checked on multiple levels before submission. We are confident that the grades awarded reflect the grade outcomes expected of each student had they sat the formal examination.
