Thank

you Festival folks for hosting a Harrison Ukulele Gathering!

This songbook is dedicated to locals who find joy in the music on the beach, in the Memorial Hall and on our porches in Harrison Hot Springs. This songbooks’ 2023 version has been updated in a larger print since the Harrison Festival of the Arts’ 40th anniversary edition. Song selection are tunes that locals loved to play during our Harrison Ukulele Gatherings or new songs discovered since 2018. All links are hyperlinked to access the songs themselves or play along videos, should you wish to prep for the next ukulele gathering.

Harrison Festival Ukulele Gathering Songbook is also available to listen to on Spotify playlist.

To learn what local ukulele players are up to, visit Facebook’s Harrison Ukulele Gathering. You are welcome to share resources, videos, new songs and opportunities to play in your town.

Throughout this book you’ll see Little Ukulele Gal who represents songs I’ve especially arranged for our gatherings. As with each Ukulele Season songbook created, I am inspired by my first friend, gal pal and singing partner, Leigh-Ann my sister. It is our continuing bond that led me to playing ukulele, and gathering others to join in the fun. Thank You Sista! Earla Dawn Legault Summer 2023

That was the first sound in the sound of love; Scarce more than a silence is, and yet a sound. Hands of invisible spirits touch the strings of that mysterious instrument, the soul, and play the prelude of our fate. We hear the voice prophetic, and are not alone. - Longfellow

A quick glance at song titles shows their [key] and player level:

✿ beginner songs with C, G, F or fewer chords - Newbies you got this ✿ ✿ intermediate songs with Am, D, Dm - keep playing, you’ll soon get it

Go To Sleep, You Little Babe [F]

Also known as Don’t Leave Nobody but the Baby from the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou?, this was sung by soulful sirens Emmy, Alison and Gillian on YouTube. Movie scene. This tune can be a one-chord wonder. We like F best.

Go to sleep, you little babe

Go to sleep, you little babe

Your momma's gone away and your daddy's gonna stay

Didn't leave nobody but the baby

Go to sleep, you little babe

Go to sleep, you little babe

Everybody's gone in the cotton and the corn

Didn't leave nobody but the baby

You're a sweet little babe

You're a sweet little babe

Honey in the rock and the sugar don't stop

Gonna bring a bottle to the baby

Don't you weep, pretty babe

Don't you weep, pretty babe

She's long gone with her red shoes on Gonna need another loving baby

Go to sleep, you little babe

Go to sleep, you little babe

You and me and the devil makes three

Don't need no other lovin'baby

Go to sleep, you little babe

Go to sleep, you little babe

Come lay bones on the alabaster stones

And be my ever lovin’baby
