Executive Summary This year, there were new benefits to being a sponsor at the Festival. We had greater festival and marketing presence on the radio, TV spots, web media, billboard, and bus shelter ads. New to the Festival this year was the POP UP Marina and Club 25, and 2 large outdoor art installations. We added swing dancers to the Dal Richards concert, and the concerts all rocked the parks!!! For 10 days, Millennium Park became the Waterfront Lounge and Beachside Patio, at the Garden Stage. This stage featured a backdrop of passing cruise ships and breathtaking views with a line-up of talented performers. The Garden Concerts took place every day, afternoon and evening of the festival, including a variety of some of the best musicians in BC. On Opening Night, we estimated that there were at least 4000 people on the beach and in the park for the Beatles cover band. Our Main Stage located in John Lawson Park, hosted the Sunset Concert Series, with a packed crowd every evening. It also hosted the Seniors Series concerts and Creative Kids Day. We had beautiful sunset evenings, with great entertainment! Only a couple nights brought rain to the festival. Every night, people packed the parks, brought their chairs or sat in those provided, and enjoyed the musical performers from all over the lower mainland. We were able to provide musical afternoons and evenings free to the community. Notable evenings included, the Beatles tribute cover band on opening night and definitely Tina Turner on the closing night. The Waterfront Lounge came to life with upbeat and lively entertainment that was perfect for audiences of all ages. The Main Stage and Garden Concert stage were overflowing with live music at any time of the day and night! Cinema in the Park continues to attract the crowds, so much so, that we added more movie nights this year and had 9 movies at this year’s festival. For one, the weather made it a natural spot to hunker in and watch a movie under the starlit skies. The evenings were beautiful making the thought of watching a movie outside most desirable! The movies were well attended with over 600 in attendance at each showing. Opening night saw the movie Mamma Mia, which is a 2008 musical/romantic comedy film adapted from the 1999 Broadway musical of the same name, based on the songs of the successful pop group ABBA. This opening night movie saw over 800 in attendance! Our festival partners provided popcorn and Starbucks provided complimentary coffee’s and cold teas. This was so well received!

2 New to the Festival this year was the POP-UP Marina and Club 25. Visitors looking to come to the festival by boat could reserve a spot on one of the dozen buoys just offshore of the Waterfront Lounge. Guests using the pop-up mooring service were chauffeured by boat to our “Club 25” on Ambleside Pier where they were greeted by volunteers and handed a welcome package to the festival. This was the first of its kind in Vancouver! We marketed this to the yacht clubs in the lower mainland and Vancouver and San Juan Islands. Everyone enjoyed the open-air Art Market. The Art Market took place both weekends, on the pedestrian street of Argyle. People could browse and shop the art with the artists on site. Patrons are encouraged to meet and chat with the nationally recognized creators. The art market tenting remained up through the ten days of the festival, and stayed open on both weekends again this year. This is well received, with buyers returning the second weekend to finally purchase their piece of art. It was a fantastic place to find one-of-a-kind paintings, photographs, jewellery, glasswork, and much, much more in a gorgeous setting under the tents, which was also lit up in the evenings. We have a jury select the artists for inclusion in the Art Market, which continues to bring the level of artisans up. This was embraced by everyone who visited. Argyle Street was closed, allowing a free flow of pedestrian traffic from one venue to the other. The art market tents during the mid week timeframe, housed the 25 years of tshirts produced for Harmony. One of our long time volunteers owned these tshirts (which were in pristine shape). The idea stemmed from the fact that we wanted to activate the tents on Argyle during the week nights of the ten day festival. We hoped this would bring added foot traffic, past the tents to the entertainment areas. Visitors also enjoyed the variety of delicious food provided by Caffe Al Mercato and the Dirty Apron Cooking School & Delicatessen restaurants. We continued with the Harmony Arts Kids Camp, which offers kids from the age of 7 to 12, an opportunity to experience the creative process within a festival setting. We had 20 young artists explore the arts and be inspired by the artists, creations and performances that Harmony had to offer. It was a series of workshops for the week with, live demonstrations and hands-on art making activities like book making, sketching on the beach, First Nation’s drawing, puzzle painting, cyanotate pictures, a scavenger hunt, and abstract drawings. This was greatly attended by the youth in the community. The home base for this camp was on the water’s edge at Lawson Creek Studios adjacent to John Lawson Park. The Creative Kids Day was a special day for children and their families, with plenty of activities happening in John Lawson Park. There were family-friendly activities, happenings, and performances. The children could create architectural sculptures with Science World’s KEVA blocks, participate in a collaborative art project, bring your own t-shirt to tie-dye, enjoy live performances from young musicians, and participate in the Drum cafe. All activities were free. It was truly an activity fun filled day!

3 This year our Senior’s Series, was packed with everyone dancing to Dal Richards. We hired some swing dancers for the start of the dancing, however, everyone joined in on the dance floor and did their own swing dance version. It was lovely to see. The Senior’s Series concerts were held at the Main Stage and filled afternoons with timeless melodies as the crowd sang, clapped, and danced the day away. Our sponsors were included on all the festival tower signage located in Millennium Park, John Lawson Park, and at the Ferry Building, and acknowledged in the festival script, every day. Please see the section on the amount of signage for the festival, included in this report. This year we enhanced the broader marketing of the Harmony Arts Festival, with a bigger sense of arrival, large tower signage at the foot of 15th St. and on through to John Lawson Park. The festival was marketed to the Yachting set through Yachting magazine, received editorial in the Homes & Living Magazine, and online editorial through Vitamin V and the COURIER newspaper in addition to the exposure from the North Shore News. This benefitted all sponsors, at all sponsorship levels. The Waterfront Lounge and Beachside Patio continue to be very popular with festival goers. They are special spaces where one can sit, enjoy the music and the sights. The restaurant The Dirty Apron, provided a dining area with over 175 seats. People were lined up at the counter, ordering mussels and frites, all day long. It was great weather, and what a super spot to eat your dinner, and listen to music wafting over from the Garden Stage. There was also plenty of stand-up space around the perimeter. The patio also could see the contemporary art exhibition by Matthew Soules that flashed in the sunlight on the Ambleside Landing Pier. The project provided a new and alternative way to present art and creative thinking in a non-gallery environment with the water filled “pink metallic and silver” balloons. Matthew Soules gained great media exposure from this creation. With the intent of expanding our visual art experiences at the festival, we introduced the “You and I” sculpture. When visitors arrived to the festival, they were greeted by the Marie Khouri art installation, that was far more than just “You and I”. It was located in the Waterfront lounge and Beachside patio. With the hot weather, this outdoor art installation was an area of refuge from the glaring sunshine, with some of the pieces situated under the trees. We saw the audience sit and lean against the exhibit and enjoy. Khouri models clay and other materials into shapes that evoke a body’s curves and other organic forms. The You and I exhibit spells the words in Arabic script. Viewers were invited to interact with the sinuous sculptures which acted as seating and provoked us to consider how art and ideas can link people and cultures. The sculpture created a space for public engagement, - a place for sitting, for conversation or for simple enjoyment. In addition to the two formal outside art installations was the informal “Bird Canopy” produced and guided by artist Cori Creed. Bird Canopy is a hanging art

4 installation created by the collaborative efforts of community members of all ages. Using paint and mixed-media, artists created works which were then transferred onto recycled coroplast and cut into crow silhouettes. The string of crows was suspended above the crowds that filled John Lawson Park, and were illuminated with strings of lights. The crows still remain in the park today. We also continued with the radio station sponsorship which added advertising and talk about the festival on The Peak FM. Peak FM also had a day of activation at the festival. At Harmony we saw a continued trend, the trend being, festival goers wanting to be on the waterfront, with a glass of wine, and a plate of great food. The added benefit of amazing nearby art, and musical entertainment, is just what summer is all about. This year we built on our Harmony brand and chose art work for the festival guide, t-shirts, cards, and limited signed prints. The art design was computer generated by Xwalacktun (Rick Harry) who was born and raised in Squamish. He is widely recognized for his public art work such as Ambleside’s Spirit of the Mountain, a monumental steel and brick sculpture, and the carved cedar door panels at the Gordon Smith Art Gallery in North Vancouver. The West Vancouver District, took over the operation of the Waterfront Lounge and Beachside Patio with paid staff and volunteers. The restaurant Caffe Mercato operated the food at the Waterfront Lounge, with the added “gelato” bar for all those hot summer days. The Dirty Apron restaurant operated the food at the Beachside Patio. We received overwhelming feedback on the level of service and type of food served. Everyone was impressed. Another continued staple of the festival is the Artisan Eats, which had several food trucks and carts in one foodie area, a super way to give excitement, and a “vibe” to the Festival, and a full stream of people, staying to eat at the festival. People welcomed the food trucks to the festival. The Group Exhibition Tent, Artsy Kids Outdoor Studio, Kids Camps, and For the Love of Art Exhibition Tent were all returning programming areas for the festival, and were very successful. The Group Exhibition had over 82 visual art pieces by 67 juried artists. This year’s juried Group Exhibition featured the mixed media works of artists, “Exploring Balance in Art: Harmony and Discord. The For the Love of Art, had 87 artists between the ages of 5-18, submit art to a silent auction. This is an exhibition made by children and youth in the community. The artwork is framed and on display in an outdoor tent. The Opening Receptions this year were very casual; festival goers had the opportunity to view art in the Group Exhibition Tent , at the Silk Purse, and the For the Love of Art Exhibition tent . All of these locations had wine and cheese receptions provided for festival goers to enjoy, mingle and look at the art for the opening of the festival. The headliner band for opening night was “Me and Mae” on the Main stage and “The Fab Forever” Beatles Tribute on the Garden Stage. This drew large crowds into John Lawson and even larger crowds to Millenium Park. This was a super

5 way to kick off the festival, on a beautiful evening, with the stars making the evening even brighter! I was there walking through the crowds, taking pictures, and could not believe how many people were sitting on the beach, and all around the actual park. It was fantastic. We estimated 4000 in attendance at the evening concert. As many witnessed, the Best of the West was the place to be on the Wednesday night of the festival! The intimate and magical location featured a seaside wine and food experience with stand up tables on the Pier at the Ambleside Landing. The event was sold out well in advance of the festival starting. This hasn’t happened in the past, but it tells us that people want to enjoy this type of evening on the West Vancouver waterfront. It was an evening that began with a down pour of rain, however the skies opened up and a lovely sunset followed between the clouds. It was a night of wine and food pairings, celebrating the best British Columbia has to offer and hosted by the house wine ladies. A dozen wineries were paired with 12 local restaurants to come up with the perfect complementary dish. The evening’s guests voted on their favourites with the winners of this year’s Best of the West being, PARC Retirement Living’s Westerleigh chefs Joseph Schefer and Paul Marshall and the winery Stag’s Hollow. With over 230 attendees this was an achievement for the top “chefs”. We had a DJ play background music, which ended with some couples dancing. A super night for all who attended. The festival worked hard this year to make it a “zero-waste” festival. The District of West Vancouver’s Engineering Department and Emterra partnered to implement a zero-waste system throughout the festival site. Receptacles were located in all venues. We employed Green Chair Recycling to make sure that all garbage was recycled properly. In addition to the recycling we added a “Clean Energy” shuttle that operated from Ambleside Beach, and up and down Argyle St., ferrying attendees from one venue to the other. The Community Energy and Emissions Plan Working Group hosted this complimentary shuttle. A new visual art exhibit featured a collaboration by 25 local artists. The exhibit was called 25 Years 25 Artists. Commemorating the legacy of excellence in arts and the deep community connections the festival has nurtured in its 25 years, each artist created an artwork on a 24x24 canvas or wood panel, that somehow connected to the painting hung beside it. A very moving display of art. Another program resurrected from the past was ArtBeat. ArtBeat took place during the entire 10 days of the festival. People could go and explore the neighbourhoods of West Vancouver during the festival, as stores showcased spectacular pieces from talented local artists. Art Beat, brings original works of art to the store windows and interiors of local businesses within the Ambleside, Dundarave, Caulfield, and Horseshoe Bay areas. Artspeaks was a visual arts program that held a daily line-up of artists talks, demonstrations, workshops, hands-on classes and multi-media presentations. The ArtSpeaks programs were drop-in and free to all. Lastly, but not least, our Harmony volunteers totalled over 200, with over 1500 hours worked over the 10 days. The volunteers ranged in age from 16 to 65 and

6 over. The volunteers support the festival each year performing a variety of roles, making the festival experience an enjoyable one for residents and visitors. From wine garden ticket sales, to customer service information booths, to hosting visual art exhibitions, our dedicated volunteers go above and beyond year after year contributing the many hours that make the festival an annual success. The 25th Anniversary of the Harmony Arts Festival was overwhelmingly well received. We thank all of our sponsors for their commitment and support of the festival.

WEB & SOCIAL MEDIA In May 2015, the Harmony Arts Festival launched a new and improved website to better serve the needs of our growing number of attendees. The new functionalities of the website would provide a better flow of information, more prominent sponsorship recognition, and more detailed data tracking to better evaluate our audience needs.

The new website has been very well received. The harmonyarts.ca website has seen a increase in visitors since 2014.

Our social media channels continue to grow each season, as attendees look to social media to be informed about upcoming concerts, festival highlights and weather considerations. To mark the festival's 25th anniversary celebration, we counted down on social media with 10 days of our favourite Harmony Arts Festival cover art. The artwork included popular covers from Bobbie Burgers and B.C. Binning.
