Hi! From a young age I have been exposed to arts and design as a way of life which has led me to pursue interior design as a career. I am an avid reader which is reason why I am a visual thinker and daydream often. I am proficient in the classical dance form Kathak and I can play an array of percussion instruments and drums. These have often become my source of inspiration for the projects have done in my academic years. They have also taught me that practice and dedication along with hardwork always pays off.

Partition

A half height corrugated cardboard partition seperates the workstation from the workshop. The curved increases the surface area for display of embellishments done on sneakers.

The assembly is based on a half cut slot joinery of cardboard.

The parition is grounded with a plywood base to ensure stability and durability. The fenestrations provide alcoves for storage and display, also create an aesthetic for the space.

Detailing out the workshop brought out details between carboard partiton and flooring, osb board partition and GRC table and adjacency of storage unit and partition. The language of free flowing curve and fenestrations is reflected in the ceiling as well and flooring.

Making

sem5 : Beyond Mainstream Materials

Hands - on explorations with non mainstream materials like papier mache, bamboo, felt, coconut husk as product design materials which can be a sustainable and economical alternative to replace mainstream materials

The subject of study were teak wood louvres situated in a residential space as a partition between a living room and a utlity space. ‘Here comes the Sun’ is a louvre based partition system made from bamboo and saresh, metaphorising the classical jali in a nonmainstream material. The design takes advantage of the fact that hollow bamboo occurs in different sizes and aims to build a modular system out of slices of it. Saresh is a animal glue gelatinous substance which forms a brittle film on hardening and allows tinted light through, by virtue of its natural impurites.

sem4 : Traveller’s Home

Designing a travellers home in Velavadar National park which is an abode to blackbucks. The concept of the design was to create a habitat of coexistence of man and wildlife, a space where both are welcome and can interact.

Welcome to Flock, a dwelling breeding the idea of coexistence. It is a welcome space for birds, birders and bucks; a habitat bubble for interaction. Tucked among the edge of wetlands and grasslands of Velavadar National Park it aims to provide its users a journey from the dry grass to the wide waterbody. It takes you through a winding path by ramps, offering you to pause and spot the fauna around. Such a journey gives opportunities to take in the environment around not only through openings but also during movement. It shelters stopovers as well as travelers with a keen eye of birdwatching. A sense of enclosure and an experience of being nestled is imbibed by the sensitive use of bamboo as the skin of the form to have layers of transparencies. The spaces stage a hide and seek relationship between humans and birds. The machan, encircling the babul tree, is the destination for birds and birdwatchers, a place to interact

sem3 : Poetics of Space

Whilst honing my hand painting skills, charting out narratives for an oneirc space located in the deep jungles of Hoh Rainforest. Treating the ‘Poetics of Space’ by Gaston Bachelard as The Bible, delving into literature as tool for designing a refuge, home or shelter.

Guided by the book ‘Poetics of Space’ by Gaston Bachelard, this is project set in the mysterious moss laden trees of the Hoh Rainforest. It chases the oneiric feeling of living in a dwelling which is expansive, infinitely branching and full of liminal spaces. The perpetually growing house wraps around the trees of the forest forming a symbiotic relationship with it. It is an organism flourishing for centuries and having undergone several seasonal changes and challenges. The dwelling personifies the Body and the character living inside it, the Soul. Their existence is intertwined; one can’t survive without the other.
