Construction Methodology using Alternate Techniques Foreword The portfolio is an attempt to introduce myself through the journey of architecture. I graduated from Acharya Nagarjuna University, and I am currently working at Kruthica Architects, Hyderabad.

The portfolio majorly discusses about one academic and a few ongoing and complete projects. From the professional experience perspective I was involved in the design process of few projects and learnt about the diverse construction activities and understanding of construction technologies and their dynamic nature. I got an opportunity to engage with masonary work, stonelaying craft and metal fabrication in detail.

1.Residence for a small family.

Year of construction: 2016-2017 Site area: 1606 sft.

Build up area: 1920 sft.

Location: Chebrolu, Andhra Pradesh Duties: Design development, working drawings, client relation.

The site abuts the main road of the town on one side farms on the other and neighboring clusters of houses on the rest of the sides, in a context of traditional houses with internal courtyards in the cluster. The plot size was of 55’ x 32’. The idea was to establish a linear axis along the north south direction opening into a large green space beyond the property. The linear experience of spaces typical of traditional houses was taken as an example. To experience the landscape better the thought was to create a gesture of double height within the form so as to let the landscape into the built form. The nuances of creating balconies and full height windows were created for better street connect.

2. Private office Site area: 1525 sft/ 170 sq.yards Build up area : 3310 sft/ 368 sq.yards Year of construction: Dec 2015 to Feb 2018 Location: Coimbatore, tamilnadu.

Duties: Working drawings, client relation, site inspection, work flow management, coordinating vendors, consultants & contractors

Unconventional shape of site and a large set of requirements to accommodate was the brief given by the client.

Requirement was for an open display showroom, a consultation space and private office space along with a multi- purpose space.

The design and the built form envelope addresses these various needs of both public and private spaces by going vertical from the public spaces in the lower level and private spaces at the upper levels, with clear segregation and circulation to both public and private space being separate. Material palette includes aerocon panels, terracotta blocks along with the basic building materials such as RCC, burnt clay bricks.

3. Luxury Apartment Year of construction: 2017 Site area: 9106 sft./ 1011 sq.yds Build up area: 17310 sft. (Each apt. Area - 3740 sft.)

Location: Hyderabad, telangana.

Duties: Design development, client relation, working drawings, site inspection, work flow management.

Luxury apartment in a premium locality in Hyderabad. This project caters to providing luxury with only one unit per floor and also explores the attempt was to make a sort of vertical garden.

Each apartment consists of public spaces which include the formal drawing room, family living and dining. The apartment sits protected inside layers of glass, wooden screens, planters providing grades of privacy and enclosure within the urban environment. The character of the built form is accentuated by using steel framed structure and an exposed R C C frame.

4.Challapalli town documentation Academic project Population: 17,067 (2011) Area: 4.66 km² Location : Challapalli, Andhrapradesh

As an academic project, got an opportunity to document a palace in my own hometown where I grew up. The citadel complex is surrounded by a water body near one of the entrances, group of houses with supporting facilities on the other and storage for the grains right in the center of the complex. The architecture in this case is more derived from the Social structure of the time ( King- His Gaurds- The People- Their needs and resources ). The hierarchy of the built mass in itself sets a clear picture as to the peoples residence being closer to the water body ( due to resource easily available and the market developing along the same area due to easy trade during the time. In the present context most of the architecture remains in a good condition. The documentation was submitted to the King.

5.Construction Methodology using Alternate Techniques ( Community School )

As a junior architect got an opportunity to visit and study a school being presently designed by my firm outside the city of Hyderabad. The primary objective guiding was to do a school using locally available material, labor at hand and involving the community in the process. The foundations are laid in locally available granite stone, the walls are of Mud Blocks (Compressed stabilized Earth Blocks) which due to their density act as a suitable load bearing component with R.C.C ties at different levels for structural stability. The roofing is done in cast in situ Ferro Concrete panels of 2� Thk with girders below for longer spans. The locals were taught how to lay the brick walls and pointing for the same from the master masons available.

The built form and the process is to set an example for further schools being done in the surrounding villages.
