Welcome

Careers in Motion Welcome to Careers in Motion—Harford Community College’s completely redesigned Schedule of Classes! I want to thank all who contacted me with comments and suggestions regarding our redesigned publication format. The feedback was greatly appreciated, and many suggestions have been incorporated into this publication. Have we made your experience easier? Are you looking for classes that we don’t offer? Let me know by calling, emailing, or just dropping in and saying, “Hi.” We have developed this publication to help you easily find and navigate through our Workforce Development courses, certification programs, and Contract Training offerings. Whether you choose one of our Learn-in-a-Day computer training courses or decide to pursue a national certification, H.O.T. (High-Demand Occupational Training) certificate, or licensure, we want the process to be seamless. Many of our certification programs will bridge into credit, degree-conferring programs, so you will be able to gain new skills, start or continue working, AND work toward a degree, all on your schedule. Through partnerships within the community, we are also able to provide you with journeyman apprenticeship programs in Electricity, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning, and newly added, Plumbing. Workforce Development includes trade, service, and professional courses and H.O.T. certificate programs, as well as individual courses and industry certifications in the healthcare and computer fields. A separate schedule, entitled Build A Better You, has been designed to highlight all of our enrichment, leisure, and recreation courses—including travel—to meet the needs of children, teens, adults, and seniors. If you would like to continue receiving the Workforce Development schedule or are interested in receiving the Community Education Schedule of Classes, please contact the Continuing Education and Training Department at Harford Community College by telephone, 443-412-2376; by email, Zparker@harford.edu; or by visiting us on the web, www.harford.edu/cet. I truly look forward to meeting and working with all of you to develop a strong, viable workforce that meets the needs of Harford County.

Call 443-412-2376 to provide credit card (Discover, MasterCard, American Express or VISA) information and to confirm receipt of your form. Attend the first session unless the College notifies you that the course has been canceled.

Registration Restrictions

1. Enrollment in noncredit courses is limited to individuals 16 and older, except for courses that specify they are open to those under 16. 2. Non-citizens must provide original documentation (most current resident card, work card, or visa) to register. Students must register in person at the Continuing Education Registration Office in Edgewood Hall. Please note: Non-citizens who have never taken a credit or noncredit class at HCC must go to the Credit Registration Office in the Student Center the first time they register. 3. The College prohibits the enrollment of individuals listed on the National or Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Sex Offender Registry or with the Harford County Child Advocacy Unit.

Current Mailing Address

Students are responsible for maintaining a current mailing address with the College. All address changes should be reported to the Continuing Education and Training Office. If a student owes a debt to the College and does not maintain a current mailing address, that debt will be sent to a collection agency without further notice to the student. In this event, the student will owe an additional collection fee.

Payment

Payment for all noncredit courses is due at the time of registration. Failure to pay will incur a debt to the College that must be paid whether or not you attend the class. To avoid receiving a bill, please call 443-412-2376 before the class begins in order to process a drop.

Residency Surcharge

Out-of-county residents (except senior adults, disabled retired students, and students receiving a Maryland National Guard member tuition waiver) pay a $5 surcharge per course for each noncredit course that charges tuition. If you were an out-of-county resident at the time of your last registration and have since moved in-county, you must complete a Student Statement of Domicile for Tuition Purposes form and provide two forms of identification in order to have the $5 surcharge waived when registering. You may obtain the form by calling 443-412-2376 or visiting the registration desk in Edgewood Hall. Appropriate forms of identification include a driver’s license, voter registration card, or utility bill showing name and Harford County address. All out-of-state residents pay a $10 surcharge per course for all noncredit courses that charge tuition. Course fees, where applicable, are the same for all students.

Harford Student ID

All students will be assigned a Harford student identification number. The H-ID begins with a capital H followed by eight randomly assigned digits. HCC will still need a Social Security number for certain mandated business functions; however, it will be used on a limited basis and kept in a secure environment. Because students will need to use the H-ID for College business transactions, students are required to know and remember their H-ID.

Failure to pay at the time of registration will incur a debt to the College that must be paid whether or not you attend the class. To avoid receiving a bill, please call 443-412-2376 before the class begins in order to process a drop.

RENT

Phoenix Festival Theater Book, Music, and Lyrics by Jonathan Larson Directed by Laurie Starkey Set in the East Village of New York City, RENT is about falling in love, finding your voice and living for today. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, RENT has become a pop cultural phenomenon with songs that rock and a story that resonates with audiences of all ages. Based loosely on Puccini’s La Boheme, Jonathan Larson’s RENT follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves, and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical. This is theatre at its best—exuberant, passionate, and joyous.

The album, featuring ‘60s hits “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Up On The Roof,” “Time Of The Season,” “Candy Girl,” and more is a testament to what THE MIDTOWN MEN do best: help to keep iconic music from the ‘60s alive in the 21st century while giving it a new “twist.”
