Sitter Safety

Hover Craft - Design Your Own Vehicle - Egg Drop Car

Prepare now to accept the responsibilities of babysitting. This course teaches valuable skills such as care and entertainment of the young child, and marketing yourself as a babysitter. Students will earn First Aid and CPR certification. By Maryland law, a babysitter must be 13 years of age unless an adult is present.

Do you want to design and build things that you create- not just a model you purchase? Well this is the place for you. Build and keep an air powered Hover Craft. You make it defy gravity. Once it’s up and moving, then using your creativity, control its direction. Get to build and take home your own car. The purpose is to build a super car powered by more than one source of energy. This can be one crazy looking vehicle. We provide you with many materials for that dynamic vehicle that you will build. Also get to build a Egg Drop Car. The purpose is to build a gravity vehicle that can cushion a raw egg as the car holding the egg is dropped from a high height. We provide you with the material to cushion the fall. You have to be creative. In these three challenges in one workshop, you will learn about Laws of Motion, Energy, Air Pressure, Friction, Lift, Speed and Acceleration. You are never to young to learn and have fun in a Sciensational hands on way.

Hyper Peppy Robotics A Look Into the Past and the Future

Bubbly Engineering Adventures

This exciting summer camp will engage elementary children in the engineering design process. The Engineering Adventures (EA) curriculum was designed by the Engineering is Elementary (EiE) team within the Museum of Science, Boston. Children entering 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades will learn the EA unit, “Bubble Bonanza: Designing Bubble Makers”, which explore how bubbles behave and investigate properties of materials they can use to create bubble makers. Camp participants in this session will not only engage in the EA unit, ultimately creating a solution to the design challenge that they can take home, but will also take home two related trade books to extend their science/engineering learning at home. Students will also get the opportunity to meet real engineers working in the field and gain a better understanding of what it is to be an engineer.

Build and take home your own Hyper Peppy Robot. It is sound activated. Use the clap of your hands to get it moving. It has a very sensitive touch/sound sensor. When it comes in contact with an object it will automatically go into reverse, and then turn left before embarking on a new course. It’s fast!!! You’re able to adjust its sensitivity to sound. You will see, first-hand, the many gears, circuit board, microphone, and it is easy to assemble mechanical drive system. The completed project will help build self-confidence. You will also get to build other robots as a part of a small group. Be a part of robotic technology and have fun investigating the future effects it will have on our lives. Course: 35273 Tuition: $79 Course Fee: $129 Mon. - Fri. 7/27 - 7/31 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM 5 sessions F-208 Ages 7-12.

Magnetic Levitation for Future Transportation

Sciensational

Build your own “futuristic Maglev” car to race and take home. In 1999 a Japanese five-car maglev train set a record of 345 miles/ hour. Yours won’t go that fast, but we will have fun building it and learning how it operates. Learn about the relationship between magnetism and electricity. You will also get to build a simple maglev track as well as a cool electromagnet. Learn how motors work, as well as generators. Build and take home the world’s simplest motor. Make your own compass and take part in many other magnificent magnetic activities! Yes, Sciensational Workshops again starts with the Maglev car (magnetism electricity - levitation) and goes in all directions to have fun and learn while doing hands-on activities.

Sciensational Workshops for Kids, Inc. has been offering science enrichment programs for elementary aged children for 34 years. The company is owned and directed by Neil Schulman, a former high school chemistry teacher. The business now operates in 26 states.

Creative Engineering

Work with an advanced three dimensional construction kit that is yours to keep and take home. Design and build simple or complex models of a vehicle, a robot or buildings. You will also get your own 3-volt geared motor to power up a moveable Radar Surveyor. Learn the many ways you can make your motor run. Hands on is the only way, so prepare to build from directions, and from your own imagination!

Signs and Symptoms of a Concussion

A concussion is a type of brain injury that changes the way the brain normally works. Even what seems to be a mild bump to the head can be serious. Signs and symptoms of a concussion can show up right after an injury or may not appear or be noticed until hours or days after the injury. It is important to watch for changes in how your child or teen is acting or feeling, if symptoms are getting worse, or if s/he just “doesn’t feel right.” More information with regards to concussions can be found on our website at www.harford.edu or www.cdc. gov/Concussion. Copies of these pamphlets are available in the Office of Continuing Education and Training. Please sign below that you been provided with and have read this information. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Signature Parent/Guardian Date
