So glad youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re here. WELCOME to your period! Listen, I want to tell you something ( this is Yumi speaking). When I was a kid, it was tricky finding honest info about periods. But the one place you could go was a column in Dolly (a magazine for teenagers) called Dolly Doctor. Dolly Doctor was a regular Q&A with a real doctor who specialised in girl problems. You could write in to ask her advice, and she never laughed at the questions, or made fun of you, or even flinched â&#x20AC;&#x201C; no matter WHAT you asked. Best of all, her answers were spot-on 100 per cent of the time! If you had told me that one day I would be co-writing a book with Dolly Doctor about periods, I would have screamed with disbelief and happiness!

I’M WORRIED IT WILL NEVER COME

The short answer is: not for a while. If your period is still a no-show, you don’t need to start thinking about talking to a doctor until you’re 15 or 16 years old – and even then things are likely to be fine. In the meantime, don’t stress!

My daughter got hers at 12 years old. At her school you have to go to the toilet in pairs, so she was with a friend. She sat down on the loo and saw a little bit of blood on her undies, and shouted out, ‘I think I got my period!’ Her friend went, ‘Right, I’ll go get supplies.’ She went to her bag, gathered up a few other friends and they all grabbed their period stashes and came back and gave her the options.

For when you really can’t swim

If you’re not up to tampons yet, that’s OK. No-one can force you to use them. We have heard of a few instances of teachers insisting you should use a tampon and take the swimming lesson and, frankly, that’s not on. Involve a carer or parent if you need backup.

Patrick Guest was raised in the Melbourne beachside suburb of Seaford. Even as a child, Patrick was writing stories, starring in his own Powerful Patrick series: a major hit with his Mum, Dad and rabbit Snowball. A desire to be Michael J Fox took Patrick down the corporate path. After gaining a commerce degree at Melbourne University, followed by a three-year stint with a big mining company, Patrick realised that he was possibly the world’s worst accountant. The pop music coming out of the South Korean capital, Seoul, is a juggernaut of exuberance – once heard, never forgotten. It devours references from everywhere, feeding them into the K-Pop meglo-machine – until something astonishing emerges, shining like the future. That in a nutshell is BTS, TWICE and EXO and all the bands that cannot be contained by lowercase letters.

K-Pop is roughly split into three, four or five generations depending on how pedantic you are.

BTS were formed by Big Hit Entertainment in 2010, but were officially launched in the summer of 2013. Surprisingly, their first single, raucous rallying cry No More Dream, wasn’t a huge hit but the tide soon changed.
