TERPENE OF THE MONTH

BISABOLOL

The terpene bisabolol (also known as a-Bisabolol or levomenol) is a lesser-known cannabis terpene. It is found in numerous varieties of cannabis, chamomile, and the South African candela tree. Bisabolol is recognizable for its sweet and light floral aroma. Discovered and first isolated in 1951, and is frequently used as an ingredient in dermatological and cosmetic products, including makeup and shaving cream.

Resin Never Lies

the material that I bought in those early days was poor. My hash was brittle, unpressable, and seemingly devoid of oil content. My mentor, Hashmaster Frenchy Cannoli, assured me that when I managed to meet the right type of dedicated growers, I would have much better results. I thought I was getting the good good. I thought I was getting THE DANK.

“My boy just ran this and it was super fire. Like 30%.”

If you want to test the quality of a grower and his/her practices, make some bubble hash because the resin never lies.

As a hashmaker who also grows cannabis, I am in an enviable position. I am not beholden to the growing practices and conditions of anyone but myself. I have not always been so independent. When I first started making bubble hash, I relied upon “organic” growers to provide resinladen buds that had not been sprayed with anything. To my dismay, much of

Each grower practically said the same thing. It took quite a few mediocre batches of bubble hash before I realized that everyone’s “boy” was open blasting BHO (butane hash oil) and not purging anything. The yield on making BHO is always significantly higher than with bubble hash. Another eye opener was that lots of “super fire” material was subpar; producing flashy, but relatively useless resin heads. By making bubble hash it became obvious that all growers are definitely not the same.

The BHO process involves vacating the entirety of the resin head; capturing all of the cannabinoids and terpenes in one fell swoop. Making bubble hash

PAGE 6

is hardly as forgiving as the process is dependent on being able to collect the perfectly formed resin head decapitated cleanly at the base (abscission point); all while submerged in a detrimental environment (ice and water) for the trichome head. Terpene loss of a certain degree is commonplace. Therefore good bubble hash requires a phenomenal starting point. Good growing practices are made obvious by the yield, color, terpenes, and ability to melt after being properly dried. None of these metrics individually function as absolutes. There are peculiarities to each run of material, so understanding the variables is important.

Color is tricky. Everyone is looking for the lightest yellow, almost white, resin. However, light color is not always a sign of superior resin. Some cultivars have naturally darker hued resin. Plants that are grown outdoors will produce darker resin. Hash run in warmer conditions will be darker. At the same time, plants that are past their prime will also be darker.

In being past their prime (and thereby indicating a grower not quite on top of his/her schedule), the plants will often produce resin that will not melt as well.

At the point of senescence, resin walls become thicker and drier and less likely to melt. Late plants also will have much less terpenes.

Coasting on the obsession with light color, growers will sometimes cut their plants up to two weeks early. Unfortunately, it is during these last two weeks of ripening that resin production is seriously cranked up. When young plants are washed, often the yield is significantly less because of the reduced oil content. Young plants with little oil also melt poorly.

Another trope is, “Well nothing is detectable on tests, so it is practically organic.” This can be a whole story onto itself, but let’s just say that the labs may not be able to tell, but when produced into bubble hash, the resin reveals all. When using harmful additives and pesticides, the pressability, meltiness, and the flavor are all compromised.

When considering a new grower and his/her plants, all of these factors come into play. Base your estimation on a grower’s worth on how good are the bubble hash results and you will not be steered wrong because the resin never lies.

High & Her larious

HEY YA'LL

It’s time for some High & Herlarious Spotlight. This time I have an amazing Duo from the Boogie Down Bronx. SOFSDOPE AND K.O.K who together curated the New Podcast “Real Recognize” I have seen them in some of the cannabis circles around the city and let me tell you, these girls are hilarious.

"Real Recognized" is a podcast composed of a real family, two cousins from the Bronx who have always been outgoing and creative and just decided to share it with the world! Hosts SofsDope and K.O.K come together and highlight all kinds of talent while vibing out with comedic entertainment. They've had a range of talent from photographers to artists, producers, comedians to weed connoisseurs, and more! The key ingredient to their radiant presence, besides weed, is just pure comedy and fun. There's always a funny game to look forward to which brings out their witty banter and competitive natures. It's all about just having a good time (a great time!) with their audience, even when touching on serious subjects.

I had the pleasure of being on their show with our Happy Munkey Founder Ramon and let us confirm these girls can hang and they had some amazing flower to share with us. Y’all know how much I like my flowers (cannabis that is).

I wanted to dig a little deeper and this time ask them how cannabis has helped in their daily life and/or with their content creation. This is what they shared.

We've been smoking since preteens, and it's always been a part of our creative process! We used to smoke and then write bars and start cyphers on the train, or just start snap battles in the hood. It's been a part of our daily life also because it's our form of relaxation and meditation. When we smoke, we're calm and just brainstorm together. Plus, it's a social drug, and being involved in the underground market for so long, we've been blessed to have met extremely great people that we now call friends and family. We've incorporated it into our daily lives by starting our own edible branch, Real RecognHIGHzed, where we infuse our regular day-to-day meals like rice and beans and corned beef! Weed has and always will be a major part of our art, and art itself!

Heyyyy My name is Kira, also known as K$K, and I am a filmmaker, creative director, and cannabis entrepreneur. Since 2012, I have spent my career creating music videos and short films that are inspired by cannabis and my personal experiences. Over the years in the film industry, funding my film projects has been a challenge due to the lack of support for women. I didn't want to pander to an industry that lacked representation or create equitable opportunities to be successful for people like me and my friends. I began to explore the cannabis industry as a possible option to fund my films and create a new financial structure for women to fund their film projects. It has been my passion to break stigmas and confront the lack of safety for femmes in the offputting black-market cannabis industry. I want to continue to share and showcase the benefits and profitability of the cannabis industry to help filmmakers and other artists who want to fund their work without participation in an antiquated system. In 2020, I fully dedicated my life to this mission by launching The Hussle Lab, an organization that brings together women in both cannabis and film. As a lifelong pothead, it has always been my dream to find an empowering way to combine cannabis and film. As a way to lessen the stigma and re-write the narrative of being a woman in these industries, I'm offering you a window into my daily life and the people that have helped bring my cannabis company and The Hussle Lab to life.

PAGE 14

10:30 AM - First alarm goes off. Check the phone for requests... You always have the early people who work at normal jobs and start fantasizing about getting high on their morning breaks. My long-term customers know I won’t be available until at least the afternoon. I spend time handling my responses before going back to sleep so I don’t wake back up too overwhelmed.

11:15 AM - 12:30 PM- Answer emails and DMs via social media. Both my phone and DMs begin to get pretty hectic. At this point in the day, I'm handling responses for cannabis requests, communicating with film festivals/organizations for my completed films, and managing the Hussle Lab (@ thehusslelab on Instagram) community. The Hussle Lab is an online community that is growing into a physical safe space that advocates for femmes in both the filmmaking and cannabis world. I started the Hussle Lab so that people like me would feel less alone and so that others can connect with similar tastes and work.

12:30 PM - 1:30 PM - It's time for a coffee or smoothie, and the first J of the day. I’m definitely a joint smoker who rolls a big J and just nurses it throughout the day. I roll XL Raw papers with a filter (sometimes a little grabba but I’m weaning myself off). Usually, during the day, I smoke a Sativa and Nigerian Haze is my favorite.

1:30 -3:30 - Now that I’m sufficiently in my zone, I sit down to do some editing on my new film. My latest project, "Darkness is Light", is an experimental short I have been working on for the past year. While on a work trip to New Orleans for a large hip-hop publication, I was sexually assaulted by one

of my colleagues. I always wanted to make a film about the experience to help others dealing with the same trauma. Thanks to my amazing and talented friends in New York, New Orleans, and Philadelphia I was able to shoot it in 2020. Now that the film is in postproduction, I have been spending a lot of alone time selecting the perfect shots, colors, and sounds to bring the world of the film to life. I hope to partner with different sexual assault survivor organizations for the release of the film in early 2022.

4:00 PM- 8:00 PM - People start to get off work and my phone begins to go off. One of the most rewarding things for me about working in cannabis is the way I see how I improve the daily quality of life for people. Whether it's smoking a joint with them while they decompress from their day, or providing the plant medicine that puts their mind and body at ease, it feels so good to be contributing to the general well-being of my community.

8:00 pm -11:00 pm - At this point, our living room and studio are usually jumping. During the pandemic especially, coming to buy weed from me was some of my clients' only opportunity to leave the house. Those nights of endless joints and conversations acted as some of the main inspiration for some of my earlier work for the conception of The Hussle Lab. Most of my clients are female-identifying artists, so I've experienced firsthand how impactful cannabis can be for us on various levels.

11 PM - 1 AM - I honestly am always cooking so late at night because it's the only time I can slow my life down. After 12 it's cooking, and Netflix, and lately some White Runtz.

WEED IN THE POST PANDEMIC WORLD

As we emerge from our 15-month hibernation caused by COVID, I was wondering how the Cannabis community and its culture will be forever changed as a result. While there’s no predicting what will or won’t happen, allow me to share some random thoughts on the topic.

Puff, puff, pass. While a core component of our culture, how willing are you going to be to attend a concert or a party to take a hit of a stranger’s joint now? It’s been a relief to see certain brands include glass tips that fit over the edge of the joint as a solution to this problem and keeping this important tradition alive. But, as my friend journalist Steve Bloom recently discussed on Celebstoner. com, in his speaking with people including Dr. Mary Clifton, he thinks people won’t be as free sharing. Time will tell.

Dabbing. As we celebrate July 10, which is now an unofficial national holiday for the industry, remember 2020’s celebration had to be tabled. Regardless, I think we’ll be seeing a lot more private dabbing with personal products like from Puffco or friend of the Munkey Adam Amrod and his Space Cannon vs the giant Dab rooms we remember with even larger pipes and that blow torch.

Consumption Lounges. Thanks to the hard work of Vlad, Ramon, and David in working with the legislators creating the recently passed legalization bill, places like The Happy Munkey won’t have to be underground anymore. While we appreciate our friends at the Astor Club and the great story about them the NY Times just did a photo essay on, getting a license in NY will allow the Munkey to become the legitimate hospitality leader in the Cannabis space and take enjoying weed publicly to new levels of entertainment.

Purchasing. Conservative estimates are that there will be no purchasing of weed at legal dispensaries in NY for 2-3 years. As we’ve seen in states like Massachusetts, which took four years after the voters approved it, the legacy market had plenty of time to continue to thrive and grow. It will be interesting to see how crowded the PATH trains or NJ Trains get once they open their legal dispensaries and how NY/NJ and the Port Authority will respond when that happens in early 2022.

So, what will this new world of Cannabis look like? I don’t know except that I can’t wait to find out. Till next time.

TOXIc KUSH

They say the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else. I swear nothing in me wants to get over my glue fetish but the shit is starting to feel weak. The high ain’t what it used to be and this nigga complain more than the law allows. His new name should be Toxic Kush. After that super failed attempt to make my own version of Neapolitan ice cream I knew my glue was a wrap anyway. I'm not sure why he kept fuq’n wit me but I didn’t care. I would had been left me alone tbh. I wanted to think we could have been able to be cool but he "mad" mad and extra petty. So if y'all know me by now you know I’m on to the next. I feel like it’s definitely time to switch my attention to something more captivating, cerebral even. Something special with big dense nugs and a bright aura. I know this may take some time but I am patient and the new strain search should be fun. With summer here I need a new travel buddy that tastes good in whatever I wrap it with.

Recently I was introduced to a new strain called Candy Kush. I mean Kush is always good and you kind of just know what to expect so I wasn’t super impressed but I also wasn't disappointed either. It gave me the high I needed at that time and I fuq wit that. The aromas of this strain are subtle, sweet, and a bit earthy. Candy is known

for being sweet but I promise you this one is not as sweet as he could be and actually kind of uncanny but maybe it’s the pinene making me paranoid. He is, however, some good eye candy.

It had been a while since I had some really strong weed. I've been on straight glue for months now and you know when you smoke the same strain too much it loses its potency. So I was super down to find a new strain. You know the kind that just knocks you out after one hit. That's what I needed and so I rolled up on the Kush with a little bottle of crown apple and a whole lot of high hopes for a dank ass evening. The entire drive though I just kept thinking to myself “ WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING RIGHT NOW, this is exactly why the glue is currently mad ” Needless to say I ignored all voices in my head as per usual and kept driving. I was already committed to acting up and my foot was on the gas. My brain tho was on that glue and how that shit hits so right every time & if he knew I had jumped ship he would flip the script.

Now don’t judge me too hard but you could say I was baiting the glue to come to see me well before I made my decision to even go get me some Candy Kush. I know I can’t be the only one who hits up their ex’s for a quick smoke sesh every now and again...

PAGE 22

5 Ways to break a bad habit

1. Stop calling them

2. Stop answering calls

3. Block they ass on everything

4. Erase all their pictures out your phone

5. Find someone new to take your mind off them

When I didn't hear back from the glue within the time I felt he should have hml, I started my next adventure. But omg tell me why did the glue call me literally as I arrived at my destination. I was proud of myself for not answering his call and hopped out as my date approached my car door to greet me. What’s fuq'd up is instantly once I stepped out the car I realized I don’t even want the Candy Kush, I wanted my glue. The greeting was awkward af from the hug all the way through our pregame smoke session. I was plotting my escape honestly soon as I received the weird-ass hug. You know the kind of hug where you can tell someone is trying to avoid a kiss. If that's how you greet me we definitely will not be making it to no second hug. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

I tried to stick around, finish the date and get what I came for but I wasn’t feeling the vibe & so I quickly changed my mind

once that glue sent that “wya, I'm coming to see you” text. It’s really sad how I always drop everything for him and it’s a habit I should break one day. But I wasn’t bouta break it right then lol. The only thing I was breaking was away from that Candy Kush. I jogged my brain thinking of ways to say I gotta go and couldn't find not one. Everything seemed weird or rude since I hadn't been there for barely 20mins. I really wanted to avoid all awkwardness and so I did the one thing that could get me out the door without any discussion. I said I left something in my car and headed for the front door. Once at my car I thought one more time “WHAT

THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?”

Once I pulled out I knew I’d get the wtf text from the Candy Kush and I’d have to accept it. I don’t feel good about leaving that bomb ass Kush behind like that and I will definitely have to say sorry. I’m gonna keep it real though in my defense you can't hug anyone like that and have no real ass expectations.

Politics as usual!

Alittle over two months ago, recreational cannabis was legalized in New York. Since then, we’ve had parades and sessions, toking in celebration of what we hope will be a new day full of opportunities to partake in peace and to build generational wealth. We’ve heard that the time is now to get business affairs in order— to be ready when the market opens up. The question is, when will that be?

Although getting a bill passed took years to accomplish, the reality is that was just the beginning. The intent of that bill now has to be fleshed out through the rules and regulatory process. It will be done by individuals appointed to the Cannabis Control Board (CCB) and State Cannabis

Advisory Board. The goal was to have the five members of the CCB appointed by the end of the NY legislative session. However, the session is over and here we are without progress.

Three names were floated as considerations of Governor Cuomo for top positions in the Office of Cannabis Management and/or the Cannabis Control Board. Norm Birenbaum and Karim Camara were not clear favorites of members of the legislature or the community and lastly Axel Bernabe, who graciously declined.

Since the close of the session the Governor’s office has been pretty quiet about who will be steering this ship. But the streets are talking.

PAGE 24

The People's Ecosystem

New Yorkers have waited a long time for this. We want to know who will be responsible for honoring the intent of the bill. We want to see the harm repaired for the people and communities that have been disproportionately impacted by the war on drugs. We are anxious to take advantage of the equitable pathways for entrepreneurship that were promised to us. I believe we must be as concerned about quickly moving forward as we are with getting it right.

This is a tough position to be in. Once again as politicians are politicking the people are bearing the weight. Recreational cannabis is legal but where can people legally purchase it? When will people be able to get into the legal adult-use market? The reality is while we are waiting, big business and medical operators continue to plot, grow and develop their businesses. This disproportionately gives them a huge advantage over social equity applicants. We need and deserve a board with members who will take things like this into consideration.

New York needs leaders who are willing to listen and learn. Our road to equity has been paved with good intentions but accountability and transparency will most certainly be necessary to ensure they are seen through. GET READY and STAY READY people! We gotta be in it for the long haul!

Munkey Munchies

KENGO SUSHI

High and welcome back Happy Munkey Fam to this month’s installment of Munkey Munchies! This month I found myself in Toledo, Ohio of all places stoned and looking for a life-changing munchie meal; and would you believe it happened to me! On a rainy Ohio night, we had reservations for an Omakase-style dinner at Kengo Sushi & Yakitori. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this style of dining, the phrase omakase, literally 'I leave it up to you', and just like it says the customer leaves it up to the chef to select and serve seasonal specialties. It was the perfect place for an indecisive stoner like myself, I got to sit back high as a kite, as course after course was brought to my plate. Every single bite of the 17-course meal curated by chef Kengo Kato was an elevated light show for my pallet. With only about 20-seats and a sushi bar reserved strictly for omakase dining, Kengo Sushi effortlessly delivers the perfect dining experience with a balance of upscale and intimate vibes.

The saltiness of the soy sauce with the brine of the oyster was perfect. So crisp and refreshing. The perfect start.

Homemade fish noodle. Creamy & light. Each bite melted together.

Deep fried soft shell crab with Shoshito peppers. Squeezed fresh lemon over the lightly battered and fried crab. The perfect fried dish. The crab meat was so light and fluffy!

Yakutori time!!!! Chicken on a stick with chili powder on the side. Perfectly tender and soft chicken thigh. Hot off the grill.

PAGE 26

Full flavorful bacon with the perfect amount of char, tightly hugging perfectly grilled crunchy yet juicy asparugus.

This chicken meatball was so juicy and perfectly seared. Balanced with sweet and savory seasoning, it was the perfect meatball.

Grilled avacado with soy sauce and wasabi radish. So creamy, I could eat this everyday for breakfast. The sauce was the perfect amount for a perfect mild dish.

Blue fin oto nigiri aka fatty tuna. Buttery meat melted in my mouth. So soft and subtle yet full and fucking awesome!

Yellow tail aka hamachi - Bites perfectly. So fresh. Buttery. But not as rich as fatty tuna. More refreshing.

Fresh salmon. Velvet. Soft. Falls apart in your mouth. Melts and dissolves with the best flavor.

Skipjack - a bit meatier, not as buttery, a bit more texture - a fuller bite. Refreshing and crisp.

Madai - Changes with each Chew - can't beat the caviar on top

Horse macéral

Very different. Fishier taste but light and airy. Fresher less fishy version of Danielle's grandmas fried mackerelPersonally it tasted like an aquarium.

Ocean eel - Different from unagi which Is freshwater eel - warm and falls apart Nutty and homey/ reminiscent of meat

Raw wayguPerfectly sweet and savory. Melted In my mouth. Tasted perfect, how I wish all meat tasted.

What's Up Munkey Fam and this issue is a momentous occasion because it's the 7/10 edition! For those who don't know, 710 is the celebration of everything concentrates. On that day every dabber will be dabbing concentrates of varying sizes and crosses. I'm more of a flower person but I would never turn down a dab if offered one. In film and media concentrates are portrayed as something dangerous and something your average cannabis user wouldn't consider using at all. How many videos on Youtube have you seen of people either passing out from taking too big of a dab or someone trying to make concentrates in their home and blowing themselves up to high heaven? My friends I have a Youtube series that combines dabs, comedy, and laughing to insane stories from the host and his guest. The series I'm speaking of is called Peak'd hosted by comedian Frank Castillo and co-hosted by Weed Wizard JP.

Frank is a Latinx comedian based in Los Angeles and is known for winning the show Roast Battle on Comedy Central hosted by Jeff Ross. As of the writing of this article, the show just released its 13th episode with A$AP P as the latest guest. The premise of the show is that Frank and his guest dab on fire concentrates using Puffco Peaks, one of, if not the premiere electronic dabbing device on the market for three rounds at varying degrees. Unlike other videos from the past of people dabbing using red hot titanium nails, dabbing on mud colored concentrates.

In complete contrast, JP with his Hulk Hogan mustache is a cannabis encyclopedia. He breaks down each dab like a cannabis sommelier discussing the terpene profile, the lineage of the concentrate, down to the flavors that Frank and his guest should be tasting while dabbing meanwhile the guest is normally dumbfounded at

PAGE 32

the speed at which JP speaks about the concentrate for that round. By being located in Los Angeles and Frank's growing relationships within the California cannabis community the selection of concentrates would have any dabber green with envy. In addition to the knowledge, after each dab, JP asks Frank and the guest ridiculous questions.

One episode of the show I recommend that gives the viewer the whole experience is episode six with Ted, one of the owners of AlienLabs. In this interview, Frank shows both his comedic chops and his great interview skills. One topic they touch on is the belief that a perfect temp dab will allow the smoker to get the full effects of the concentrate. Ted on the other hand has the belief that smoke volume is more important. As a flower smoker, I understand what he means but I know several of our readers will die on the hill that perfect temp is better. The part of this show I love is the questions that JP asks both host and guest. For example the question "Where or what is the best place or situation to get caught smoking weed?" This question then turns into conversations about either

getting people high for the first time or getting caught by someone who does smoke but you didn't know.

In conclusion, I think "Peak'd" is a perfect show to watch while dabbing by yourself or with the homies. The few times I've seen news stories or old Youtube videos about concentrates it was always in a bad light. Thankfully with more information about concentrates and light-hearted shows like Peak'd the stigma of dabs has come down. So if this is your first year celebrating 710 go slow and don't try to keep up with the more grizzled vets. To those vets of dabbing have fun and maybe help someone burst their dabbing cherry while not killing them with a red hot nail or ninja dabs.

The Secret Art of Terp Slurping

In the world of cannabis concentrates the penultimate dabbing experience is with terp slurper style bangers. Terp slurpers are relatively new in the dabbing scene but essentially are a new design on an old method of dabbing.

Traditional dabbing with quartz bangers involves a bucket style banger. With this type of banger you can either heat and apply your dab or use the cold start method. This involves placing the concentrate in the bucket and then heating the banger. Once you can see vapor appear stop applying heat and consume your cold start dab.

Why are terp slurper’s so exciting for dab connoisseurs? Well similar to the traditional bucket style banger, terp slurper bangers have an additional tube leading down to an open rounded tray/skillet. There are small slits in the bottom of this tube that allows airflow to continuously flow as the user inhales. This then creates a vacuum that allows the concentrate to percolate. When the user

applies the top marble or carb cap the percolation keeps the oil in motion over the heated surface, preventing burning and allowing more time to inhale the vapor.

The major advantage of using terp slurper bangers is that it allows for the complete usage of concentrates in large doses. In fact, many terp slurper connoisseurs say you must “waste it to taste it,” to properly terp slurp. However, if you are a beginner the best advice is to start with small dabs. Traditional bucket style bangers would be Wbetter for beginners because these are designed for small dabs in mind. Terp slurpers are for experienced dabbers and those who require larger amounts of cannabis concentrates.

Terp slurper bangers are also great for low temperance dabs. When one engages in a terp slurp dab the concentrate comes in contact with the hottest part of the banger without the need of a directional carb cap. Terp slurper bangers also have increased surface area compared to the traditional surface area of bucket-style bangers. This means that the potential cooldown time for a terp slurper could take as long as 2 minutes. This enables the user to inhale large clouds of cannabis vapor. This also helps in reducing the risk of accidentally burning Benzene which is a carcinogen that is released when cannabis is heated above 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Concentrating on Concentrates!

Happy July! This month we celebrate America’s Independence Day, the beginning of summertime, and 710 also known as International Dab Day! Seven Ten, celebrated on July 10th, is a time in which Cannabis concentrates and dabbing culture is honored and recognized amongst the Cannabis community. No one knows exactly who invented 710, but some sources attribute the creation of 710 Day to the word OIL written upside down. Regardless of their modern origins, concentrates have been used and celebrated for their medicinal properties since ancient times.

There are many different cannabis extraction techniques that can result in concentrates exhibiting a range of potencies, textures, and consistencies. One of the first forms of cannabis concentrate is known as Hashish. By about 900 AD, hashish use had spread through Arabia, where the word hashish originated. It is said that the word hashish and assassin came from the word Hashashin, a cult of Iranian Shi'a Islamic Muslim assassins which existed during the crusades. Founded by Hassan Sabah at the fortress of Alamut in 1090 A.D. They were known for Assassinating leaders of the knights' templar, often under the influence of hashish.

To learn more we interviewed Eli Coggins from ET farms, an awardwinning solventless extractor, to give us a glimpse into the deep world of concentrates!

Why concentrates instead of flower?

That's a great question ... I think these days the difference between

flower and concentrate has not only been divided but also linked together. Concentrate allows you to see the art of separating all the cannabinoids and terpenes in their raw form. Allowing you to taste and feel the purest expression of each varietal beyond the flower. As with winemaking, the art of concentrate connects the consumers with the hashashin beyond what normal cultivation shows.

What is the healthiest form of concentrate?

Without a doubt or question solventless hash is the purest and safest form of concentrate out there. In solventless extractions, we only use the 4 elements of nature to express our art form. Ice, water, heat, and pressure. There are no volatile chemicals or adulterants needed in our process. Ice water releases cannabinoids and terpenes while heat and pressure allow us to configure the concentrate in many different forms and textures.

How did the industry evolve after hash?

I feel that in an ever-evolving cannabis world, concentrates came further than any other variety of cannabis cultivation. Something once only found in Morrocco and Pakistan used as currency and considered an absolute delicacy and illegal form of cannabis. Concentrates have now become the forefront of cannabis consumption, not only for their higher potency but for the amount of terpene and essential oil effects supplied to the "dab" or vapor hit to the user.

In your opinion, What is the best way to enjoy 710?

Grab your favorite extract, a clean rig, and a bunch of your favorite people, and rejoice that the world is finally seeing cannabis as a medicine and is allowing us to use mother ganja on 7:10, 4:20, and every other day to heal the nation!

Q & A w/BLACK ROSE

Q: What kind of musical genre do you see yourself fitting in and why?

A: I love the sounds of hip hop and R&b together but can’t deny as a Latinax I’m not boxing myself into one genre. I love the Caribbean, Afro tech as much as I like some rock and alternative music. I think all those

sounds will come forth as I continue this musical journey.

Q: Name 3 music artists alive or dead that you'd want to smoke with?

A: Oh that’s easy .. RIHANNA, SNOOP DOGG, and BOB MARLEY. I would be in pure heaven with all

PAGE 38

three of them. And if I was to get a fourth ..SELENA. I don’t know if she smoked but maybe we can bake some special cookies lol.

Q: Tell us a little bit about where you are from?

A: I was born and raised in NYC. Harlem is always home but as a child and young adult, we moved around a bit so I can’t ever forget how the Bronx helped mold me too. I’m a true New Yorker repping, Harlem, El Barrio, Uptown/Washington Heights, and the Boogie Down Bronx!!

Q: When was the first time you got high? How old were you, what type of weed was it, how was that experience, etc?

A: I was just about 16. I was hanging with my friends at 3333 (A building On the BLVD). I remember Lil Kim was playing in the background. I smoked and immediately got the giggles. I’m not going to lie… it was pretty easy getting free bud just waking down the blvd. I would smoke a lot of Haze back in the days. I miss that strain ain’t gonna lie lol. It’s not the same now.

Q: Does cannabis help your creative process?

A: I believe ingesting cannabis helps with so many things in life. It helps my creativity and it is a big part of my daily routine. When I wrote this song “What Chu Sayin’ “ I know I wanted to express that side of me as a weed enthusiast and help bring down the stigmas of this beautiful plant. "Smoke with meeeeee" is one of my

favorite lines In the song.

Q: Do you find it difficult to be open about your cannabis use in the music industry?

A: I did before when I was working a 9-5 being a supervisor. As I started to know myself more and learned more and more about how beneficial it is... I became a rebel and openly smoked, did content, and started fighting for the fight to help people get educated on its benefits.

Q: What's your favorite way to consume cannabis?

A: I love flower and smoking it with backwoods. However the more I learn, I know it’s necessary not to just smoke it but ingest it so I’m down for some edibles and infused food.

Q: What's new with Black Rose?

A: I'm still going to continue working on The Stand Up comedy and skits with my skit team “The Have A Gnite Crew”. I also have a great show I’m in called La Factoria where I play Sofia, The Office Bruja. Music will also be a big focus. I started with theater and music. It’s time I let it all out.

Q: Lastly, Any inspiring words for aspiring artists?

A: FUCK THE NOISE AND BE YOU. You will definitely go through many ups and downs but this is all part of the process. Never let these moments dim your light .. BE UNAPOLOGETICALLY YOU AND NEVER WISH ANYONE WRONG. We going to make being GOOD COOL AGAIN.

HappyAccounting

If you’ve ever had trouble getting a loan or bank account for your cannabis business, you’re not alone. Even though recreational use is legal in 18 states and medical use is legal in 36 states, cannabis is still illegal at the federal level, and that puts banks in a tough position.

What Are the Risks for Banks?

The American Bankers Association has said that because cannabis is still illegal under federal law, any contact with funds from cannabis sales “could be considered money laundering and expose a bank to significant legal, operational and regulatory risk.”

This applies to all banks, including those in states where cannabis use and sale is legal. Even if those banks do business with licensed cannabis companies, they’re accepting federally illegal money and mixing it with regular money. If regulators trace those "illegal" funds back to them, they could get into serious trouble.

How the SAFE Banking Act Works

The SAFE Banking Act was created to prevent federal retaliation against banks that serve “cannabis-related legitimate businesses,” or CRLBs. Under the Act, regulators would be forbidden from discouraging or penalizing banks from dealing with CRLBs.

Under the SAFE Banking Act, your cannabis business could have an easier time doing things that other businesses do without thinking twice—things like getting loans and opening checking accounts.

When You Can Expect to See Changes

In 2019, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted to pass the SAFE Banking Act. It then moved to the Senate, where it’s languished ever since.

There’s a lot of debate going on about whether the SAFE Banking Act will ever pass. And if big banks are still going to resist admitting that they do business with cannabis companies, even if the SAFE Banking Act becomes law. To protect their interests, a lot of banks will simply choose not to do business with cannabis entities. Banks will still need to go through a lengthy process and pay certain costs to become and stay compliant with the law. Some banks may not feel that it’s worth the trouble, especially when they don’t understand the industry or laws surrounding it.

The Takeaway

The SAFE Banking Act is a huge step forward for the cannabis industry, but it’s not going to fix everything overnight. You can expect to face banking challenges for a while.

In the meantime, know that you’re not alone. There are companies like My Cannabis Accountant that are experienced in working with businesses like yours and can help you develop financial solutions that work!

Cultivar of the Month

Hello Happy Munkey Family and welcome to the July edition of “Cultivar of the Month''! This month out of all the flowers that crossed my pallet, it was the hometown favorite that left me needing more! I am talking about no other heavy hitter than Big League Buds - Grand Slam OG! I had the pleasure of grabbing some of this amazing flower at its Astor Club debut and let me tell you this cultivar packs a punch! For starters this flower isn’t just any flower, it was blessed by the Kush God Smoke Dza. Upon opening the package the entire room filled with the smell of straight OG gas and a pungent blend of sweet fuel and fresh pine wood. The high hit instantly with an uplifting and cerebral punch. After a few more pulls my body quickly settled into an extremely relaxing and sedative experience, that had me vibing like Smoke Dza himself!

In addition to the Grand Slam flower, the packaging takes the experience out of the park! Nowadays everyone is trying to set themselves apart with their packaging, but this right here is something special! The fun die-cut shape and bright yellow bag brought to us by The “Official Shiest Bubz” x Loud Pack x “Take Me to Your Dealer” brings me right back to my days of buying big league chew with the Kush God twist. The New Yorker in me is happily satisfied with the “NY” replacing the “CA” under the compliance sticker. Lastly, nothing makes me happier than seeing New Yorkers doing it big and putting on for the East Coast Cannabis Culture! So definitely make sure to get your hands on some Grand Slam OG and always Choose Happy!

Smoke Break with Klaus

Morristown, NJ is a nice mid-sized town located about an hour drive west/northwest of New York City. I’m born and raised here, which offers the opportunity to share some of my hidden places to get high.

The list is a long one, as I’m not just born. I graduated from prep school, Morristown-Beard in 1980. You can do the math on that one.

I’ll be covering a couple at a time. So, you can enjoy the visuals of my walking tour.

Cannabis has only just become quasilegal in Morristown, NJ. I’m still pretty careful about smoking weed in the street. This isn’t New York City where all you smell these days is the stickysweet taint of weed burning. Not that I don’t like it, far from that- smoking cannabis in Morristown, NJ is probably still not such a great idea.

No matter what the voters have said in New Jersey regarding cannabis legality. The long-standing stigmas against smoking cannabis in public still rules the roost here.

But all is not doom and gloom. I’m sharing with you my hidden “underbelly” of where I like to smoke weed where I probably won’t get arrested, nor frowned upon by strangers.

I own a gnome. His name is Klaus. Klaus is my mid 19th-century drinking gnome. He used to follow me around the globe when I was a master-mixologist and rum judge in the on and off premise beverage trade. Klaus traveled with me everywhere and he became quite famous for his rum fueled antics, but all that came to a crashing halt during Tales of the Cocktail in 2018. The halt was my leaving the liquor industry, forever when I quit drinking distilled spirits.

It was at Tales that Klaus suggested that I enter the cannabis industry, both as a journalist and as an author of the book, Cannabis Cocktails, Mocktails and Tonics. This suggestion probably saved my life because I’ve dropped nearly sixty pounds since leaving the liquor industry. Sure, he’s a drinking gnome, however Klaus enjoys the weed business much more. Travel is in his little terracotta heart and he loves getting stoned with me.

Klaus is starting this local journey today with a little bit of foot travel around two favored places in Morristown, NJ. This is the place where George Washington rested for a very cold winter during the Revolutionary War.

PAGE 46

The first place that I got high over the years, where it was so risky to get stoned there, getting arrested was a probability. The Green in Morristown. The fountain, pictured is a good place to start any respectable journey into getting High in Morristown, NJ. I paused for a one-hitter (Green BodhiTenzin Kush) and remembered that just around the corner on the Green stood the pre-Colonial courthouse, long gone, and the Hanging Tree, also long gone.

The energy in this place is pronounced as this was quite the historic town during the Revolution. I’m sure many unsavory characters throughout history met their end at the bottom of a rope in this spot. You can feel it in your bones if you pause long enough.

On the back side of the Green is the First Presbyterian Church and just behind this grand stone edifice is the historic Churchyard and their pre-

Colonial cemetery. Back when I was a teenager, this wasn’t a place where you wanted to walk around in at night. It still may have that stigma with vestiges of a recent homeless camp off set just off into the poison ivy laced underbrush.

But during the day it’s a pretty place with headstones dating back to the early part of the 1700’s. I like to pay homage to the long-departed by smoking cannabis in this cemetery. It’s a serene place to get lit up and reflect on the residents who once graced the town. Their names are often intriguing in the study of history. I’m convinced that very few Morristown residents even know that this place exists... Much less come here to get stoned. It’s part of the journey in this town. To find places that are just off the beaten path, excellent for catching a fire.

It’s my pleasure to share these places with you!

STONE FRUIT + FRESH CANNABIS SALAD

As soon as the heat of summer arrives our thought quickly shift to eating outdoors, grilling out over an open flame, smoked meats and barbeques on the block, fresh squeezed lemonade, and the ubiquitous refreshing fruit salad. If your state is now a legal cannabis state, you can’t let summer pass you by without making this gorgeous cannabis-infused salad. Utilizing seasonal fruit, fresh young cannabis leaves, and several cannabis-infused pantry items to create a well-rounded mix of cannabinoids to feed your endocannabinoid system in the heat of the summer sun. The simple dressing used is a cannabis-infused smoky lemonade vinaigrette to brighten the juicy fruit. Let’s talk about that burrata cheese for a second. Burrata means buttered in Italian, so yeah, you already know it is going to be outstanding. It is a fresh Italian cheese, that comes in a very delicate soft ball. When you cut into it, cream oozes out. It is extremely rich, creamy, and so damn divine. If you haven’t tried burrata yet, run, don’t walk to the store, and buy yourself a chunk right now… (don’t forget the stone fruit). Quick warning… once you have tasted it, you will be addicted. This salad is absofuckenlutely gorgeous any way you present it and only takes minutes to prepare. Take advantage of the summer's finest stone fruit and heirloom tomatoes as well as the everchanging cannabis laws in this country.

CANCER: White Tahoe Cookies

Happy Birth Season, My Dedicated Souls! You guys shall have much success with any endeavors in the works. Self-doubt will not be allowed to deter you from achieving your dreams. Focus and proceed with confidence.

LEO: G13

Don't let past experiences hold you back (any longer). They shall not define you. If you lack the experience, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Asking for advice or suggestions will get you further and also shows the courage in being honest with yourself about not being able to always get things done. Avoid being stuck or burnt out.

VIRGO: Berry Pie

What is your soul's purpose? Either you know or don't, but where ever you stand, it is time to reflect. Make some time for yourself. Hit the reset button by focusing on your wants vs your needs vs what is part of your alignment journey.

LIBRA: Do-Si-Dos

Practice gratitude as often as possible. It can be anything or everything: I'm thankful for the ability to breathe oxygen without any machine, I'm thankful for having legs that can take me anywhere, etc. Those small gestures of gratitude boost your blessings to arrive at lightning speed.

SCORPIO: ECSD

When life seems unfair, focus on what has made it feel unfair. Could it be due to unrealistic outcomes, holding on to attachments, or environmental conditioning? Focus on what you truly want and not on outer factors.

SAGITTARIUS: Kali Mist

Be aware of impulsive reactions or investments. Be cautious with how you handle anything or anyone. Collect facts, do research, and evaluate. Do the homework before making any decisions that could end up hurting you or have you stray from your goals.

CAPRICORN: Ice Cream

Inner peace is a must. Situations out of your full control may have caused you to be thrown off of your balance. You are usually very focused and if you have felt the imbalance, stop everything, reevaluate things and people, and make adjustments asap!

AQUARIUS: Slurricane

Good news is on the way. Be careful if you have been closed off to people or ideas. It's ok to protect yourself from something that occurred in the past, it's another to close yourself off completely and miss out on your blessings.

PISCES: Guava

You are emotionally feeling more confident than ever. This is due to you handling your emotions accordingly in situations that in past would have made you a wreck. This is such a pivotal moment which, as you shall witness (if you haven't yet), will be very rewarding.

ARIES: King Louis

You may have many ideas to execute, but it's time to focus on just one goal. Applying your energy to many things can deplete you and also make it seem as if things are taking longer. You will have much success going full force on one task at a time.

TAURUS: Dolato

Things from your past may be holding you back. Thank those experiences and release them. There are many great things waiting to bless you once you throw away what no longer is of purpose.

GEMINI:

Kicks FOR da kulture

Air Jordan VII “Olympics”

Released summer 1992

Welcome back Happymunkey fam, to the July edition of Kicks 4 The Kulture. In New York City, the month of July is always full of events, people, and beach visits. The most important date of this month is July 4th, in which we celebrate Independence Day. Nationwide people get together, barbeque, get high, and show some American patriotism. Most people wear some combination of red, white, and blue, but Seakerheads like myself wear the coolest and rarest red white, and blue sneakers around. Below I will list some of the best July 4th themed sneakers ever released!

Air Jordan VII “Olympics”

Released: Summer 1992

The Air Jordan 7 Original Olympics are simply......legendary! Released in

the summer of 1992, and were dubbed the “Olympics” as Jordan wore them while playing for Team USA during the Olympic games, which came to be known as the original Dream Team. The sneaker was so elite and colors went together so well, that we were lucky to see these bad boys release two more times in 2012 and 2016. I will always purchase a new pair of these when I can, this sneaker to me is modern art.

Adidas Originals Jeremy Scott Wings 2.0 “Stars & Stripes”

Released: Summer 2012

Jeremy Scott’s Wings 2.0 ‘Stars and Stripes’ takes on a patriotic motif that features a complimentary look on each shoe. Sporting a premium leather upper, one shoe is printed with Air Force Blue panels and white stars,

PAGE 54

while the other showcases college red and white stripes. Jeremy Scott’s exaggerated wings also appear on the heel for the shoe’s signature touch. You wanna walk into a July 4th party and be the waviest person then you walk in wearing these.

Nike Air Max 95 “Doernbecher”

Released: Summer 2007

The Air Max 95 “Doernbechers” have to be the best on this list. If Captain America were to have his own shoe these would be them. Created by Mike Strong through the Doernbecher freestyle program while he recovering from surgery to replace a valve in his heart. Mike's brother was in Iraq at the time so that inspired him to create a patriotic

colored sneaker. The red, white, and blue sections of the sneaker are full of personal touches from Mike’s life, he added laser wording on the upper that chronicled his life and he ends it with a personal heart logo. The sneaker was so amazing and had such a deep story to it that they were released again in 2013 out of love.

In conclusion, there are many more patriotic sneakers out there, but the three listed above are the most elite ones. This issue and list of sneakers listed show that sneakers are not all about looks and comfort but in fact the deeper meaning and inspiration of a sneaker. Hopefully, you all enjoyed the kicks listed this month and I hope everyone has a wonderful Independence Day! Until next time fam, Choose Happy!!!!
