Blessing the Departed After the urn is interred in the columbarium, the resident monk conducts daily prayers to bless the departed. A priest or Buddhist master also leads and perform rituals to bless and sanctify the departed’s memorial tablet. Offerings are also made every morning and evening lasting for 49 days.
49 Days Buddhists believe that prayers and rituals must be conducted for 49 days after death of a departed. This practice helps to achieve a positive and peaceful mind, which in turn results to a happy and fortunate rebirth. It is believed that a person enters his next rebirth after a period of seven times seven (49) days.
