Over the past 12 months Sarah has been responsible for leading events and membership development. As Director of Operations Sarah will still oversee events and membership and will assume additional responsibility in workforce development and legislative affairs. Sarah has been a real asset to our organization and her experience and skills will enable the Chamber to better serve the needs of members and the business community.

Chamber Recognizes Outgoing Board Members

Gordon Laabs with Floor Couch LLC served six years on the Chamber Board and was heavily involved in the development of the Chamber’s workforce programs, particularly the registered apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs.

Rick Jones, the Colonial Center’s welding and metal fabrication instructor, credits 20 local businesses with donating their time, money, and knowledge to help the team attend the competition in GarmanAtlanta. and Elmo both graduated this year and are continuing their welding paths with Elmo attending Penn Tech at Williamsport this fall and Garman working full time at HOEM Fabrication Company in York. Myers has one year of high school left and is continuing to grow her skill set at her summer job at Precision Cut Industries in McSherrystown.

To win Nationals, they had 6.5 hours to fabricate a modular weld curtain post for booths that will be used at future events. In addition, they completed a 100-question welding test, a 50-question skills exam, and submitted their resumes. The team was credited by judges for their abilities to deal with unexpected factors during the competition.

Chamber Promotes Sarah Messer to Director of Operations

Drew Derreth with Hanover Valley Presbyterian Church served six years on the Board and two years as Board Chairman. Drew contributed greatly to the success and development of the Chamber’s downtown revitalization efforts including the development of Main Street Hanover.

Sean Adams served a three-year term on the Board and was instrumental in the creation of the Snack Town Street Fair. Sean was also able to lend his social media and marketing expertise to Chamber staff to enhance the Chamber’s communications and marketing efforts.

The three winners were each awarded $1,000 scholarships from Harbor Freight in addition to welding equipment.

ACNB Bank recently welcomed Kelly E. Vita, Producing Sales Manager and Residential Mortgage Loan Originator. She is responsible for the Bank’s origination of residential mortgage loans, including management of a team of seven mortgage loan originators based in southcentral Pennsylvania and central Maryland that serve customers of ACNB Bank and its two Maryland divisions --- FCB Bank and NWSB Bank. Ms. Vita is based at the Bank’s Taneytown Office located at 222 East Baltimore Street, Taneytown, MD. Ms. Vita began working in the banking industry in 2002 and has eight years of experience in residential mortgage lending and three years in teaching, training and leadership of residential mortgage loan originators. A graduate of Seneca Valley High School in Germantown, MD, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in education from Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, MD. Ms. Vita holds the professional Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist (CMPS) designation. She resides in Mt. Airy, MD, with her husband, Chris, and their son, Christopher.

About Fuhrman Creative: Fuhrman Creative is an online marketing agency founded in 2016 by Kathi Fuhrman. The agency offers search engine optimization, content writing, Google Ads, and social media marketing to small and mid-sized businesses. Many of its clients are local to the Hanover area, though the agency does serve national and international clients.

In the role, Boyer will guide the company in its board reorganization, and serve as counsel on governance according to co-op bylaws and policies, counsel for the community development fund, real estate and financing transactions, corporate compliance and filings, as well as other duties focusing on board meetings as well as the cooperative and its practices.

Kathi Fuhrman– CEO of Fuhrman Creative– will serve as president of the Rotary Club of Hanover. She assumed the position at the July 5th meeting of the club and will hold the position until June 2023. She is preceded by Brandon Gething, Director of Development and Marketing at Children’s Aid Society Southern PA District. Fuhrman founded her marketing agency, Fuhrman Creative, in 2016. Fuhrman Creative provides online marketing services to small businesses, primarily ones local to the Hanover area. As CEO, she manages her team while still keeping a personal connection with her clients. Fuhrman has been a member of the Rotary Club of Hanover since 2019. From July 2020 to June 2021, Fuhrman served as Vice President of the club and President-Elect from July 2021 to June 2022. The Rotary Club of Hanover describes themselves as “a service club dedicated to improving our community here in Hanover and even overseas,” according to its website. The club organizes events in the community, fundraises, and completes hands-on projects. The organization is also a networking platform for professionals in the area. As president, Fuhrman plans to continue the group’s work on service projects while increasing awareness of the club and it’s ongoing initiatives to support the local Hanover and surrounding communities.

Boyer is an attorney in Barley Snyder’s Trusts & Estates practice group. He also represents clients in the Business and Real Estate practice groups. His work as a Trusts & Estates attorney comes from his desire to help agricultural businesses after his formative years were spent growing up on a farm in Adams County. That is where Boyer recognized the unique legal needs of agricultural businesses, particularly in transitional planning, financing, and land management issues. He is a cum laude graduate of Penn State with a B.A. in political science and history and received his J.D. from Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law.

Barley Snyder attorney Adam Boyer has been named outside general counsel for Adams Electric, the company announced. Boyer replaces Sam Teeter, who has stepped down after more than 40 years.

“I am excited to take on this role and am humbled and honored to serve Adams Electric and the local community,” Boyer said. “Adams Electric is a great organization that provides critical services to our area, and I look forward to assisting them with their legal needs.”

Over the last few years, Taylor has developed a comprehensive expertise in areas relating to Title IX. Specifically, Taylor has created training materials for Title IX coordinators, investigators, and decision-maker and have trained hundreds of school personnel on the Title IX process. She has also served as a Title IX investigator and decision-maker in various student and personnel matters. Taylor has also had the opportunity to present and discuss dozens of times in relation to topics such as the Americans with Disabilities Act as it relates to service animals.

The Markets at Hanover added three new merchants to its location. The new merchants include a mead merchant, CBD shop, and a sushi restaurant. The Markets are happy to add the CBD shop, Steffenshire Winery and Meadwerks, and SUU Sandbar to their existing list of Themerchants.Markets at Hanover serves as an incubator for small businesses and provide amenities that traditional retail landlords don’t, such as monthly posting on social media, email and text blasts, and inclusion on The Markets website. The Markets also handles cleaning the restrooms, food court, and common areas - a traditional landlord might not do those things. Taylor has experience in general education law, special education and gifted matters, and is skilled in advising on discipline, employment, and civil rights matters. Taylor provides legal support to schools on matters such as Right to Know Law requests, statutory interpretation, special education standards, student free speech, constitutional issues, and employment matters. She has represented school districts before various administrative bodies including the Office for Dispute Resolution, Office of Civil Rights, Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC), and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Laura Orndorff has recently joined Leonhardt Manufacturing Co., Inc. as our new HR Generalist. Laura brings with her over 10 years of experience managing and coordinating all aspects of Human Resource functions. Previously, Laura worked as HR Generalist for a local production manufacturing company in Adams County. Away from work, Laura enjoys reading, gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family. She currently lives in Littlestown with her husband and two boys. We are confident that Laura will be a great addition to our team!

On Friday, August 5th, we hosted our Legislative Roundtable sponsored by UPMC Hanover at Guthrie Memorial LibraryHanover's Public Library. We were joined by PA State Rep. Kate Klunk, Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill, County Commissioner Doug Hoke, Julie Wheeler for York County Commissioner, PA State Rep. Stan Saylor, PA State Rep. Dan Moul, Representative Seth Grove, and Register of Wills & Clerk of Orphans' Court Bryan Tate.
