Meeting once day a month for six months, the program focuses on key components of the community, including: education, economic development, health and wellness, local government and state government.This year’s class was the program’s largest yet.

“I am new to the Hanover area, so being part of the Leadership Hanover Program has been a great way meet other business professionals and go behind the scenes to understand how and why our community operates the way it does. In addition to meeting key players in the community, I have a better understanding of the difficult decisions they face, how decisions are made, and how these decisions shape the

future of our community,” said Kyle Barmoy, Marketing & Operations Manager at Hanover Land Services and 2018 Leadership Hanover graduate.

Tuition for the program is $1,200, which covers all training materials, transportation, lunch and five-full day sessions. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for any business wishing to gain recognition through the program while maintaining a seat in the current session.

The 2018-19 session will begin in October; applications must be received by August 31.

Best and Brightest Recap The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Hanover, South Western, Delone Catholic, New Oxford and Spring Grove school districts, recognized graduates from the Class of 2018 in the annual Best and Brightest Ceremony on Sun., May 6 at Hanover High School Auditorium.

The chamber would like to thank Elsner Engineering Works and Mark & Jennifer Riggs for sponsoring the event.

The theme for the night was excellence. Throughout the event, sudents were reminded of philospher Will Durant's quote, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”

PA State Rep. Kate Klunk served as the keynote speaker. Klunk is a member of the Hanover Public School District Class of 2000 and currently represents the 169th district in York County.

Students were presented with certificates to recognize their accomplishments by Mark Riggs, vice chair of the chamber’s Board of Directors.

The Hanover Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Haley Briggs, previously Operations Coordinator, has been promoted to Operations Manager.

Haley has been a wonderful asset to the chamber during her first year, and her bubbly personality and positive attitude are a hit with both our members and the rest of our staff.

The chamber would also like to commend our Marketing Coordinator, Michaela Shaffer, on her graduation from York College on May 12. Michaela graduated summa cum laude and received the Senior Honor Society Award and the H. LaMarr Rice Forensic Award.

Unfortunately, the chamber has to say goodbye to Michaela as she begins her search for a full-time job. She has been a wonderful assistant to both our marketing team and our entire office, and we will surely miss her eye for detail, excellent writing skills, and sharp sense of humor. We wish you the best of luck as you advance in your career, Michaela!

Chamber Prepares for June Events

2018 Discover Hanover Now Available

Warm weather is officially here, and that means it's time to get outside! We can't think of a better way to enjoy the weather than with a round of golf and a cold beer.

This June, the Hanover Chamber of Commerce will be hosting two signature events: the 49th Annual Golf Outing and the 2nd Annual Snack Town Brewfest. Both events will be held rain or shine.

The Hanover Chamber Golf Outing, presented by OX Industries, will be held on Thursday, June 14 at 12 p.m. at the Hanover Country Club. Player registration forms can be found on the Hanover Chamber of Commerce website and must be submitted

by June 7. Proceeds benefit business and education partnerships for workforce development.

Snack Town Brewfest, presented by Utz Quality Foods, Inc. and Snyders of Hanover, will be held on Saturday, June 23 from 12 to 5 p.m. This year's event will be even bigger and better than last year with more food, games, and of course, beer! Tickets can be purchased at snacktownbrewfest2018.eventbrite.com. You must be at least 21 years old to attend Snack Town Brewfest; no exceptions.

The 10th anniversary issue of Discover Hanover is now available!

In this special expanded issue, you will find a fresh new design with a year-round event calendar; features on downtown Hanover, the Battle of Hanover, summer activities, retail and dining guides; as well as our picks for the top ten dog-friendly spots and top eight ice cream spots in Hanover. Also new this year; our magazine is now being distributed into New Jersey as a part of the chamber's expanded tourism efforts.

Groft Picked for 2018 Women of Influence Julia Groft, Vice President of Manpower and Vice Chair on the chamber's board of directors, has been named an award recipient of the 2018 Women of Influence awards.

Groft was selected as one of the top nominees by the judges for her leadership and achievements within Manpower as well as her contributions to the community.

Groft has driven the organization to achieve growth and sustainability, while maintaining a strong focus on building successful teams who make it their mission to take care of Manpower candidates and clients.

She has a true passion for workforce development and uses that skill set to serve as a community volunteer leader- taking great pride in the creation of strategies that both uncover and create talent.

The Women of Influence awards recognizes 30 women leaders in the mid-state who are influential in their companies, industries and communities, and have solid reputations based on their experience, integrity, leadership, and accomplishments.

As an award winner, Groft will be recognized at an event on Monday, June 18 at the Hilton Harrisburg, as well as in a publication to be inserted in the June 22 issue of the Central Penn Business Journal.

ERA Preferred Properties Real Estate, Inc. has been named a Finalist in 1ST IN SERVICEÂŽ by ERA Real Estate, earning the organization's prestigious Jim Jackson Memorial Award.

Menchey Music Service recently held an open house and ribbon cutting at their new Music Operations/Educator Center on Barnhart Drive in Hanover. Realizing the need for more space, Menchey acquired the property to house music educator print music, a central repair facility, and business offices.

The award, named after ERA founder and former President Jim Jackson, honors the company that best demonstrates the customer service qualities most respected throughout the global ERA system.

Finalists must have had survey returns higher than 95 percent overall customer satisfaction. "Being recognized as one of the top real estate office in customer satisfaction speaks very well for our team," remarked Bill Shanbarger, Broker/Owner. "Our sales associates and staff embody an unparalleled spirit of customer service and this award is a reflection of that commitment."

The event featured live music both inside and out, plus delicious food and drinks. Students from South Western School District performed a variety of songs while guests toured the new facility and enjoyed the food.

Business Briefs

BOB REILLY TRANSITIONS TO PRIVATE SECTOR Bob Reilly, Deputy Chief of Staff for Congressman Scott Perry, has announced his return to the private sector.

Reilly has accepted the newly-created position of Government Relations Officer for Wellspan Health. In his new role, Reilly will help plan and implement Wellspan’s government relations and legislative affairs strategies across all systems of care.

Jay Ostrich will be Congressman Perry's new District Director. Ostrich has an extensive background in legislative, community and media relations, most recently with the PA House of Representatives, and is a decorated Combat Veteran with the U.S. Air Force who still serves in the PA Air National Guard. Reilly is confident that Congressman Perry is in great hands with Ostrich.

HISTORIC HOLE-IN-ONE FOR HACC ATHLETE Bailey Neveker, a student at HACC’s Gettysburg Campus, made history on April 4 and became the first student athlete from the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference of Region 19 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) to shoot a hole-in-one in the last 25 years.

Neveker achieved the milestone during the golf team’s season opener, on the 106-yard second hole at Paxton Hollow Golf Club in Media. Blake Kelly from Lehigh Carbon Community College also shot a hole-inone.

ACNB HIRES NEW VICE PRESIDENT Nathan E. Lightner has joined ACNB Bank in the position of Vice President/Senior Commercial Loan Officer. In this role, he is responsible for building commercial customer relationships by providing commercial loans, deposit accounts, and other banking services to assist in the operation and growth of a customer’s business.

Lightner is based at the Bank’s York Loan Office, located at 1601 South Queen Street, York, PA, and serves commercial customers primarily in York County.

PENN CARES HIRES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR The PennCares Board of Directors has chosen Deborah Allen as the next Executive Director of PennCares after the retirement of previous Executive Director, Mike Wagner.

Allen most recently served as Executive Director of the PA Behavioral Health and Aging Coalition. Prior to that, she was the Division Director for Keystone Autism Service, a Behavioral Health Membership Specialist with PA Council of Children, Youth and Family Services, the Clinical Director for CABHC, a Drug and Alcohol Program Specialist with PA Department of State in at the Statewide Waiver Coordinator with the Department of Human Services, Office of Developmental Programs.

HANOVER LAND SERVICES ANNOUNCES NEW HIRES Hanover Land Services, Inc. (HLS) recently hired Holly Givler as their new administrative assistant. With over 13 years of administration experience, Givler has the skills necessary to keep the office functioning smoothly.

Her tasks include bookkeeping, answering phones, greeting clients, managing supplies, and assisting with daily office needs.

HLS also hired Jedd Beall as a survey technician. With over 44 years of experience in civil engineering design and land surveying, Beall brings a wealth of valuable knowledge to the Hanover office. His duties include processing field data, providing survey computations for projects, and preparing deed mosaics.

Thomas Rudloff is a HLS's new CAD Technician. Rudloff has over 27 years of experience in land development, site design, and drafting for various private and government clients. He is responsible for drafting a variety of plans.

Once complete, these plans are submitted to the proper government agencies so that our client can acquire permits required to begin building.

Find Marty at participating businesses downtown! If you follow the clues you will find the prize hidden by the sneaky elf. Play on Instagram and win a downtown family prize package!

Main Street Hanover wants to celebrate the holiday season this summer with some fun ‘Christmas in July’ activities and fundraising opportunities. Be downtown for July’s 2nd Saturday and learn about the new Santa’s Cabin and Christmas plans for 2018!

Main Street Mini-Golf – August 11 Downtown merchants have teamed up to create one-of-a-kind mini-golf holes in their businesses. We invite you to participate in a mini-golf tournament unlike any you have ever seen!

Simply come downtown, start at any participating location, grab a map, and play! Golfers will spend the afternoon enjoying a walk through downtown, visiting businesses, and playing some of the most unique mini-golf holes in the area!

Main Street Mini golf runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m, rain or shine.

ArtsFest feat. Chalk It Up – September 8 This event will consist of Chalk It Up, a Pretzel Parade live auction, artist vendor area, live art demonstrations, kid crafts, and additional art-centered events!

Donations – Downtown Hanging Baskets MSH is again collecting donations to place hanging baskets downtown! Spring is here and we are looking forward to beautifying Hanover’s downtown with planted and hanging baskets.

Please consider helping to make Downtown Hanover more beautiful and inviting by sponsoring hanging baskets or making a general donation. Please note that all baskets will be located in Center Square. This program also includes maintenance so that our flowers will look beautiful throughout the season.

Art Alley Art Alley, downtown’s public art committee, is excited to launch our first project, the Pretzel Parade! Teaming up with Hanover High School and Riley Welding, the committee created large pretzel sculptures to be adorned by local artists and placed throughout downtown!

We are happy to introduce two of the great artists doing this project: Lacey French and Stevii Paden. Check out their unique designs below.

Art Alley has three murals in the works and is excited to continue to supporting an environment downtown where art and economic development can work hand-in-hand.
